Twin Cities bar makes series of safety changes in wake of shooting nearby
A Brooklyn Park bar has made a series of changes — including introducing a 25+ policy — after a shooting outside left two people injured earlier this month.
On March 5, Brooklyn Park police officers responded to a report of a shooting outside Plush Restaurant and Lounge, located on the 8500 block of Edinburgh Centre Drive North.
At the scene, officers found two individuals with minor gunshot wounds. The victims declined on-site medical assistance and instead drove themselves to a nearby hospital.
Witnesses told police the shooting occurred when a dispute between two groups led to a man pulling out a handgun and opening fire.
On Wednesday, the Brooklyn Park Police Department announced it had arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with the shooting. He is being held on second-degree assault charges.
Plush Restaurant and Lounge temporarily closed following the shooting. When it announced its reopening on Instagram, the bar also rolled out a new policy restricting entrance to those 25 and older starting at 8 p.m.
The change is meant to create a 'more focused and mature atmosphere,' according to the Instagram post.
Plush Restaurant and Lounge will also implement a new dress code policy as part of the changes.
"These measures are designed to ensure that Plush remains a safe, secure and welcoming environment for all our guests," the announcement reads.
