Cultural programmes, mass feeding and presentation of awards to various government employees mark Independence Day celebrations in Tiruchi

On the occasion of the 79th Independence Day, Collector V. Saravanan hoisted the national flag at the Armed Reserve ground in Tiruchi on Friday. He accepted the guard of honour presented by the Armed Reserve police personnel, felicitated freedom fighters and their families with mementos, and awarded certificates of appreciation to 723 outstanding government employees. The Collector distributed welfare measures of Revenue and Disaster Management, Rural Development, Differently Abled Welfare, District Industrial Centre, TAHDCO, Social Welfare and Women's Rights, Labour Welfare, Horticulture, and Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare departments to 10 beneficiaries totalling ₹18.15 lakh. Mr. Saravanan honoured R. Anbuchezhian, Director, Kauvery Hospital, with a certificate for service rendered under the Prime Minister's and Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme. As many as 560 students from around six schools in the district staged cultural performances. Inspector-General of Police, Central Zone, K. Joshi Nirmal Kumar, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tiruchi Range, V. Varun Kumar, Commissioner of Police N. Kamini, Superintendent of Police S. Selvanagarathinam, District Revenue Officer R. Rajalakshmi, Deputy Commissioners and other senior officials participated in the function. Mr. Saravanan paid respects at the First World War Memorial in Gandhi Market and later participated in the Podhu Virundhu held at Sri Mariamman Temple in Samayapuram. He was a special guest at the Grama Sabha in Nochiyam village in Manachanallur block. Mayor M. Anbazhagan hoisted the tricolour flag at Tiruchi Corporation Office. Corporation Commissioner L. Madhubalan, Deputy Mayor G. Divya, zonal chairpersons, councillors, and officials were present. Service awards He presented service recognition awards to 27 officers and employees of the Corporation for completing 25 years of service. About 57 best performers in various departments were awarded certificates of appreciation. Mr. Anbazhagan distributed cash prizes to six children of the Corporation employees who had secured the highest marks in Class XII and SSLC examinations.
