Food meets philanthropy at Akan

Staying true to tradition, each guest seated at the table was served on a banana leaf. The elaborate spread featured Gongura Pickle, Amla Pickle, Podi, Coconut Bhendi Fry, Potlakaya Curry, White Rice, Pulusu, Pappu, Vankaya Curry, Jackfruit Biryani, Bobbatlu, Carrot Sweet Rolls, Sitaphal Rabdi, and Curd Rice — a feast no one could resist. Adding to the charm of the day were painting and art stalls set up by the volunteers of Blood Warriors. Guests enjoyed activities like block printing on small bags and painting cartoon characters. Volunteers also took time to shed light on Thalassemia — its causes, risks, and how one could be a carrier — spreading crucial awareness about the disease. Speaking about the initiative, Nihal Reddy, owner of Akan, shared, 'Every year on August 15, we dedicate the day to a cause. This year, we chose to focus on Thalassemia. We serve traditional food as part of the fundraiser, and the proceeds go towards supporting the cause. I first learned about Thalassemia from Krishna, the founder of Blood Warriors, and later my wife, who is a doctor, explained it in detail. I realised that in India, many are prone to this disease, but awareness is low. That is why I wanted to focus on it this year. Compared to last year, we had more people participating, and I hope it continues to grow.'

By December, two lakh land podi will be issued in Karnataka: Revenue Minister Byre Gowda

BENGALURU: Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda told the Legislative Council on Wednesday that by the end of December, two lakh land podi will be given to applicants. Since he became the minister in 2023, 117,639 podis have been issued, in contrast to 8,500 podis between 2018 and 2020, said Byre Gowda. Replying to the Council member MTB Nagaraj over public-facing issues with the revenue department over Podi for the land, Byregowda said an Online Missing Record Committee has been formed, and the committee will have to meet once every 15 days to clear the documents for issuance of Podi. Before issuing a Land Podi, five sets of documents like mutation, (Record of tenancy, Rights and Corps (RTC) (Sagoli Cheeti), land for cultivation OM Copy, and others were asked. The Revenue Department has now started to issue Land Podi against three sets of documents. 'The Committee has been instructed to issue the Podi even if the grantees have only two sets of documents, and with that, another 30,000 grantees are expected to receive Land Podi. 'There are 2.51 lakh grantees and by the end of December, the department will issue Land Podi to two lakh grantees,' said the minister. The minister also said that 36 crore page land revenue records have been digitised and will complete the digitisation of the 100 crore page records soon. The minister also informed that soon, the people impacted by the fraudulent means of land grabbing, like fake records and impersonation, will be able to get the issue solved as the government will come up with a district registrar. 'Draft rules are ready. Some of the officials asked that they may be subjected to harassment for entering the record. But these officials have been taken into confidence that only those who are guilty need to worry. By the end of August, the notification will be issued,' he said. The minister said that some people use to run around civil courts for decades and later surrender the land and agree to the terms and conditions. With the district registrar to hear such cases, there will be quick relief, the minister said.

100 crore documents to be digitised by December

BENGALURU: Under the Bhu Suraksha project, the aim is to digitise 100 crore pages by December this year. This will help people get their documents easily. It will also avoid misplacement of documents, said Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda. The minister said the original documents available at AC offices at the taluk level and DC offices at the district headquarters will be scanned and digitised. 'In all, 29.8 crore pages have already been digitised, and work on 22 taluks is complete. Officials are expected to complete work in the next six months. If there are more, they will be given an additional two months,'' he said. Byregowda said farmers are struggling to get documents and running from pillar to post. Many documents are also lost. In some cases, they are trying to change the documents. To end this harassment, the government's Bhu Suraksha initiative will help prevent irregularities. Once scanning is done, people can apply for documents online, he added. Byregowda, who convened a video conference meeting with DCs, said during their last tenure, they had done Podi rectification in 5,801 cases, and this time, over the past seven months, 1.04 lakh parcels of lands have been taken up for measurement under Podi Abhiyan. 'Of 1.04 lakh land pieces, 20 per cent work is completed and the remaining will be done in the next six months. We also have information that there are an additional 70,000 land parcels for rectification,' he said. The government has started providing office space to Village Administrative Officers (VAO) who had demanded it and even staged a protest. The VAOs did not have offices even before Independence, the minister said, adding, 'We have spoken to the RDPR department, wherever there is space in panchayat offices, VAOs will get offices.''

500 km network of water pipelines yet to be laid under Jalasiri project in Mangaluru, says KUIDFC official

Approximately 500 km of the 1,260 km-long network of pipelines remain to be laid under the ongoing Jalasiri drinking water supply project in the city, according to an official of the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC). The official told the quarterly Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) Review Committee meeting here on Monday that a 760 km long network of pipelines has been laid under the project. 'We may take a few more days beyond the target month of November 2025 to complete the project,' the official said. Ivan D'Souza, MLC, accused the KUIDFC personnel of irrationally digging roads in the city and causing inconvenience to motorists. A member of the committee, Melwin D'Souza, said that some of the overhead tanks constructed under the project were leaking. When an official pointed out that nearly 40% of the sanctioned posts of land surveyors were lying vacant, and this had affected the ongoing 'Podi' work, the Minister said that Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda was aware of the problem. Mr. Byregowda is keen on completing the survey in Belthangady, Sullia and Puttur taluks and resolving issues related to land records in these taluks, he said. The Minister said that counselling related to the compulsory rural posting of MBBS and postgraduate intern doctors is under way. All vacant posts of MBBS doctors and specialists in the Dakshina Kannada will be filled shortly. When MLAs pointed out the poor condition of some village roads, including the Uppinangady-Kuppetti road and the damage to the bridge on the Kalkuja-Palimaru road, Mr. Rao directed Mr. Darshan to submit a list of village roads where grants need to be released for immediate repair. Deputy Conservator of Forest Anthony S. Mariyappa stated that, according to the department's working plan, Acacia trees have been removed from 3,600 acres of forest land in Dakshina Kannada since 2023. The Acacia trees will be removed in 1,250 acres of forest land this year, he said. Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers Union Managing Director Vivek said the Union is contemplating installing a silage baling unit to provide silage to milk-producing farmers of Dakshina Kannada. Backward Classes Welfare district officer said a hostel each for boys and girls has been sanctioned for the district for BC students studying in Medical, Engineering and other professional courses.

DC appeals to people to cooperate for survey of darkhastu land

Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district administration appointed additional surveyors from other districts to conduct a survey of the darkhastu (govt grant) land to complete the Podi process (demarcation and fixing of boundaries), which is being carried out across the state as a drive. Deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan said that since a large number of applications are pending in the district, the govt gave permission to utilise the services of licensed surveyors. While 129 surveyors were deputed to complete Form 1 to 5 of the Podi process, an additional 50 surveyors from other districts also arrived to expedite the process, the DC told reporters on Tuesday. Land surveyors will carry out the measurement work. The applicants should be present when the surveyors arrive, show the boundaries of the approved land, and ensure that boundary stones are placed as per the measurements. The DC appealed to the public to cooperate when the surveyors visit. He said the plotting of the land was a major issue in Dakshina Kannada, and landholders faced difficulties while selling their land. The land records division of the Revenue Commissioner's office developed software related to the project. All Darkhastu cases are being handled completely through the Mojini online platform. Measurement will be done simultaneously for all eligible approved landholders, and the tahsildar will issue orders accordingly. Dakshina Kannada district has 30,685 applications that require completion of the Form 1 to 5 process, the DC explained. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Google Brain Co-Founder Andrew Ng, Recommends: Read These 5 Books And Turn Your Life Around Blinkist: Andrew Ng's Reading List Undo SC SURVEY: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan said that 2046 teachers have been given training to carry out the Scheduled Caste internal reservation survey in the district.
