Shamrock Rovers player getting married hours before vital ECL qualifier
Lee Steacy will get hitched today just hours before Shamrock Rovers' vital Conference League qualifier in Tallaght. The Hoops' back-up goalkeeper is marrying his partner Katie and will not be cutting short the celebrations to hot-foot it to his club's third qualifying round second leg clash with Ballkani as he has been given the night off to enjoy the nuptials. With Leon Pohls moving on last month it is Alex Noonan, 17, who will provide back-up to number one choice netminder Ed McGinty. The Kosovan outfit lead 1-0 after the first leg but Rovers are fancied to turn the tables at home and set up a play-off for the group stages next week. Steacy was with Rovers as a teenager before stints with Bohemians, Bray Wanderers, Shelbourne, Longford Town, Drogheda and Cobh Ramblers. He returned to the Hoops at the start of last year and was Stephen Bradley's reserve keeper behind Pohls. McGinty was signed as the club's new first-choice keeper at the start of this year and Pohls left for Vllaznia in Albania last month. Rovers made the group stages of the Europa Conference League last year and became the first Irish club to reach the play-off round, where they lost on penalties to Molde, with their ground-breaking European run earning the club over €7m. The tie could go to penalties and, if it happens, McGinty says he'll be ready. 'I enjoy penalties,' the 26-year-old said on the eve of the second leg. 'These games are all or nothing and there's no hiding from that. I just try to stay calm through it all and just try and do my job. That's all I really try to do.'

Rovers keeper leaves after over six years at club, Finn Harps sign Dutch striker
Shamrock Rovers goalkeeper Leon Pohls has left the club after over six seasons with the Hoops. German net-minder Pohls arrived at the Tallaght Stadium side in 2019 from English outfit Tadcaster Albion, and he largely played a back-up role during his time at the club. Last season, however, following the retirement of Alan Mannus, Pohls took over the number one role, and he made 14 of his 49 appearances last year in Europe, including six in Rovers' historic Europa Conference League campaign. He dropped back to the bench at the start of this year, after the arrival of former Sligo Rovers keeper Ed McGinty from Oxford United. McGinty played in the Conference League play-off penalty shootout defeat to Molde, and held onto the jersey in the Premier Division. Mpongo arrives at Ballybofey from Rijnvogels, who play in the Derde Divisie, the fourth tier in the Netherlands. He began his senior career with Needham Market and moved from there to Brentford B. The 22-year-old also had spells in Iceland with IBV and Throttur Vogum, before returning to the Netherlands with NAC Breda. His next stop was Slovenia with Tabor Sezana and then Rijnvogels, where he scored nine goals in 22 appearances. Harps boss Kevin McHugh told club media: 'We're delighted to welcome Hans to the club. Between outgoings and injuries we've been a bit light up front so it has been a priority for me and the coaching staff to bring in some extra firepower. 'Hans has a good eye for goal and is versatile in his play which should give us a lift going forward. 'As with any signing arriving midseason it can take some time to get into the swing of things but he is eager to get going and show the fans what he can do.'
