Kavitha intensifies political activity, plans protest on June 4 against notice to KCR over Kaleshwaram fiasco
HYDERABAD Intensifying her political activity after making her 'discontent' against a few key leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) clear, party MLC and president of Telangana Jagruthi K. Kavitha announced a protest (deeksha) on June 4, against a notice to former Chief Minister and her father K. Chandrasekhar Rao by the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) on the Kaleshwaram project row. She inaugurated the new office of Telangana Jagruthi near her residence at Nandi Nagar, Banjara Hills (shifted from Ashok Nagar) on Saturday. 'KCR had ruled Telangana for over nine years keeping the interests of the State in mind and it is unfortunate that a person (A. Revanth Reddy), who had never said 'Jai Telangana' (slogan hailing Telangana) in his life has become the Chief Minister,' she said. She sought to know whether notices were issued to KCR for irrigating lakhs of acres with Kaleshwaram water or for introducing innovative schemes such as Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima. The protest on June 4 would be held at Indira Park. Interestingly, BRS has not planned any such protest so far. Stating that a person who had never paid tributes to martyrs, had no moral right to be the Chief Minister of Telangana, she demanded that the government rename the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam scheme in the name of either Srikant Chary or Kaloji Narayana Rao or P.V. Narasimha Rao, since Rajiv Gandhi had no connection with Telangana. What's CM's stand on Banakacherla On the plans of Andhra Pradesh to divert Godavari water to Krishna and Penna basins in the name of Polavaram-Banakacherla Link Project, undermining the riparian rights of Telangana, she alleged that Mr. Revanth Reddy had not spoken a word about it so far since he was indebted politically to AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Seeking to know why Mr. Revanth Reddy had gone so voiceless on the issues when neighbouring AP was using all its might to harm the rights of Telangana, Ms. Kavitha expressed doubts whether he was working for the interests of AP. The Centre had proposed Godavari-Cauvery interlinking from Inchampalli to deny the rightful share to Telangana against the proposal of then Chief Minister KCR to take it from Thupakulagudem, that too after meeting the present and future needs of Telangana. She demanded that Mr. Revanth Reddy make a clear statement on the issue on June 2 (Telangana Formation Day), and call for a meeting of the Apex Council to discuss it.

Andhra CM seeks Centre's support for Polavaram-Banakacherla project, rooftop solar scheme
'Had a productive meeting,' Naidu, a key ally of the NDA, said in a post on X after meeting Sitharaman. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, New and Renewable Energy Minister Prahlad Joshi, Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil and Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh to discuss various state government's projects. New Delhi, May 23 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday met several Union ministers, including Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and sought the Centre's support for the state's renewable energy initiatives, the Polavaram–Banakacherla project and a defence manufacturing hub proposal. The chief minister — who is in the national capital to attend the 10th Governing Council meeting of the Niti Aayog to be held on May 24 — said he discussed in detail the crucial Polavaram-Banakacherla project, which is aimed at taking surplus Godavari waters to the drought-hit regions of the state. 'Powered by Centre-State collaboration, this river linking initiative will ensure water access and long-term development for our people,' he tweeted. The chief minister said the project would benefit millions in drought-hit areas and serve as a model for river-linking across India. The state government has proposed a detailed financing building on earlier discussions with the Finance Ministry. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is expected by June 2025, he said and requested for better coordination between concerned departments to fast-track the project. Before meeting Sitharaman, Naidu discussed the Polavaram-Banakacherla Link Project with the Jal Shakti Minister and explained the significance of the project for enhancing water security in drought-affected areas of Andhra Pradesh. He informed that the proposed project aims to divert surplus Godavari floodwater to the drought-affected areas through a three-part water transfer system, including the Bollapalle reservoir, lift irrigation systems, and tunnels through the Nallamala hills. Naidu said the project supports national missions like Jal Jeevan, Blue Revolution, and Make in India while highlighting Andhra Pradesh's rightful access to surplus water as a downstream state after bifurcation, according to a statement. 'The Polavaram-Banakacherla initiative focuses on sustainable solutions to support irrigation, drinking water, and regional growth. Sought the Centre's full support to take this forward under our long-term vision for #SwarnaAndhra2047,' Naidu said in a post on X. Assuring that a detailed project report (DPR) would be submitted soon, Naidu requested timely approval for the project, the statement said. In his meeting with the Defence Minister, Naidu presented a strategic vision to position Andhra Pradesh as a national hub for defence manufacturing and aerospace innovation, an official statement said. The proposals include the development of integrated defence facilities, the revival of critical manufacturing units, support for indigenous aviation programmes, the establishment of testing and training centres, and the creation of thematic defence hubs, it added. 'We discussed a comprehensive roadmap for Andhra Pradesh to emerge as a cornerstone of India's defence and aerospace future. ….Grateful for his encouraging response and assurance of full support,' the chief minister said in another post on X. Naidu also underlined the state's readiness — with its strong infrastructure base, skilled workforce, and proactive policy environment — to play a leading role in advancing the Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission through self-reliant defence production and innovation, the statement said. In his meeting with the Union New and Renewable Energy Minister, Naidu requested the allocation of rooftop solar capacity under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and urged expediting approval of the proposals submitted by state electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs) in January. 'Had a fruitful meeting… With the Centre's support, we will reduce energy costs, empower our people, and lead India's clean energy transition,' Naidu wrote on X. The chief minister has set a target of installing 20 lakh rooftop solar units by 2025. Under the scheme, SC/ST households will receive free rooftop solar systems, while backward caste households will get Rs 10,000 per kWp subsidy for up to 2kWp installations. The state's Clean Energy Policy 2024-29 targets an additional 72.6 GW of renewable energy, including 40 GW of solar power. In a meeting with the Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Naidu sought support to transform the state into a pivotal hub for space manufacturing and innovation. The proposal outlines the development of two state-supported Space Cities — one near the ISRO SHAR spaceport and another near Lepakshi — to serve as integrated hubs for satellite production, launch vehicle development, and industry collaboration. He also apprised the Union Minister of the appointment of S Somanath, former ISRO Chairman, as the Honorary Adviser on Space Technology to the Government of Andhra Pradesh. Union Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu and TDP MP Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu were present during the meetings. PTI LUX BAL BAL This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. BRS flays Centre's decision to fund A.P.'s Polavaram-Banakacherla Link Project
HYDERABAD The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has criticised the Centre's decision to fund 50% of funds required for the execution of Polavaram-Banakacherla Link Project to divert Godavari water to the Krishna and Penna Basins without mandatory clearances and to allow Andhra Pradesh to mobilise the remaining 50% funds by borrowing loans beyond Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act limits. The Centre's move was nothing but allowing A.P. to undertake illegal water diversion in violation of Telangana's riparian rights, senior leader of the BRS T. Harish Rao said, alleging that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and his Cabinet colleagues were maintaining silence. He requested the Chief Minister to oppose A.P.'s illegal project in every possible way. Mr. Rao reminded the Centre, A.P. and Telangana governments that as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act provisions, it was mandatory to get clearance from the river management boards established under the Act for taking up new projects in the Krishna or Godavari Basins. 'The Centre was unfortunately encouraging the violators by providing funds', Mr. Harish Rao said in a statement. The BJP-led government was doing grave injustice to Telangana, he said and questioned the silence of Congress and BJP leaders of Telangana, including their 16 Parliament members, and two Union Ministers from the State. Step-motherly treatment He stated that the Centre had cut Telangana's borrowing limit under FRBM in lieu of the loans taken from the Power Finance Corporation (PFC) and Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) for executing the Kaleshwaram Project. However, A.P. is being allowed to borrow loans for the Polavaram-Banakacherla Link Project beyond the FRBM limits, indicating the Centre's step-motherly treatment to Telangana. He recollected that it was the Congress that had allowed injustice to Telangana when the rulers of combined A.P. diverted Krishna water illegally by expanding Pothireddypadu Head Regulator to draw water from Srisailam to meet the needs in the non-basin areas at the cost of in-basin areas of Telangana. It was the Congress again now which was allowing illegal diversion of Godavari water.

Notify Amaravati as State Capital in next Parliment session, CM Naidu urges Amit Shah
VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu requested the Centre to include Amaravati as the State Capital and and notify it in the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Act. Speaking to media after meeting several Union Ministers on Friday, Naidu said that during his discussion with Home Minister Amit Shah, he urged the Centre to notify Amaravati as the Capital of AP. Though it was mentioned in the AP State Reorganisation Act that Hyderabad would remain as the common capital for both AP and Telangana for 10 years after the State bifurcation, it did not mention the capital of the residual Andhra Pradesh. With the ten-year period now concluded, the Chief Minister urged the Union Home Minister to take up the matter in the upcoming session of Parliament and officially designate Amaravati as the State capital. Naidu said that Shah had agreed to notify Amaravati as the capital of AP. The CM also attended a review meeting chaired by the Union Home Minister to discuss the implementation of the three new criminal laws. Accusing the previous YSRCP government for causing significant damage, Naidu said that although the coalition government has made some progress in restoring administrative order, it will take more time to fully recover from the damage done between 2019-24. Rajnath asked to set up military cantonment in AP During a meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Naidu presented a strategic vision to establish the state as a national hub for defence manufacturing and aerospace innovation. Naidu outlined a comprehensive plan encompassing industrial infrastructure, research collaborations, and strategic installations across key locations in AP. The proposals include development of integrated defence facilities, revival of critical manufacturing units, support for indigenous aviation programmes, establishment of testing and training centres, and creation of thematic defence hubs to promote regional specialisation. Naidu also requested the Defence Minister to establish a military cantonment in the state. 'When asked about military cantonment, the Defence Minister said he would examine the matter,' the CM said. Naidu underlined AP's readiness-with its strong infrastructure base, skilled workforce, and proactive policy environment-to play a leading role in advancing Aatmanirbhar Bharat through self-reliant defence production. Naidu also met Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil and submitted a proposal for the Polavaram-Banakacherla Link Project.

New Delhi [India], May 23 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level review meeting with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Delhi on Friday to discuss the implementation of the three new criminal laws in the state. Following the meeting, CM Naidu wrote in a post on X, 'Participated in a review meeting chaired by the Hon'ble Union Home Minister & Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, in Delhi today to discuss the implementation of the three new criminal laws.' Naidu is on a two-day visit to Delhi, holding a series of meetings with Union Ministers to seek the Centre's support for the timely execution of several ongoing and proposed projects in Andhra Pradesh. He is also scheduled to attend the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting on May 24, which has drawn multiple Chief Ministers to the national capital. Earlier in the day, Naidu met Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil and submitted a proposal for the Polavaram-Banakacherla Link Project. In a separate meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, he presented a strategic vision to position the State as a national hub for defence manufacturing and aerospace innovation. The Chief Minister also discussed the Polavaram-Banakacherla project with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The project aims to divert surplus Godavari floodwater to drought-affected areas in Andhra Pradesh through a three-part water transfer system. It includes the Bollapalle reservoir, lift irrigation systems, and tunnels through the Nallamala hills. 'We discussed the crucial Polavaram-Banakacherla project aimed at taking Godavari waters to the drought-hit regions of Andhra Pradesh. Powered by Centre-State collaboration, this river-linking initiative will ensure water access and long-term development for our people,' Naidu said in another post on X. In a meeting with Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Naidu sought the Centre's support to position Andhra Pradesh as a national space manufacturing and innovation hub. 'With our proximity to Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SHAR), industrial readiness, and the guidance of Dr. S. Somanath as our Honorary Adviser, Andhra Pradesh is uniquely placed to boost India's space ambitions. We aim for world-class Space Cities, FDI in advanced technologies, and seamless public-private collaboration. AP is ready to power India's next leap in space,' Naidu said in a post on X. Naidu also met Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Prahlad Joshi and sought rooftop solar capacity allocation for Andhra Pradesh under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The three new criminal laws--Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam--were conceptualised with the vision of the Prime Minister to replace colonial-era laws that persisted post-independence and to reform the judicial system by shifting the focus from punishment to justice.
