A body has been found in a stormwater drain at a train station in Newcastle. Police made the grim discovery at Waratah station, in the northern suburbs of Newcastle, on Tuesday morning. A police spokeswoman told NewsWire the man's body had been removed and a crime scene set up. The man is yet to be formally identified. Police were seen examining the drain, which is right outside this orange building. BREAKING NEWS Horror as body is found stuck down a drain near a Newcastle train station
A man's body has been found in a stormwater train near a local train station, as police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death. Police were called to the drain beside Waratah train station in Mayfield, a suburb of north-western Newcastle, early on Tuesday morning following reports of the body. Witnesses said about a dozen officers cordoned off an area surrounding the drain as investigators worked through the morning, the Newcastle Herald reported. A ladder was reportedly lowered into the drain beside peak hour traffic on nearby Platt Street. A NSW Police spokesperson has said the man's body was removed from the drain and has not yet been identified. The Police Transport Command has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man's death. It is understood train operations were not impacted by the police operation.
