Predators' Ryan O'Reilly is guest speaker for Middle Tennessee High School Sports Awards

The 2024-25 Middle Tennessee High School Sports Awards, Presented by Ponce Law, is happy to announce Nashville Predators forward Ryan O'Reilly as the guest speaker for its live event on Wednesday, June 4 at Music City Center in Nashville. O'Reilly is a 16-year NHL veteran who has played two productive seasons with the Predators, scoring 26 goals and 69 points in 2024 and 21 goals and 53 points this past season. The 2024-25 Middle Tennessee High School Sports Awards, Presented by Ponce Law, are part of the USA TODAY High School Sports Awards program. He broke in with the Colorado Avalanche in 2009, and has also played for the Buffalo Sabres, St. Louis Blues and Toronto Maple Leafs. In 2019 he won the Stanley Cup with the Blues and was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the playoffs. Advertisement O'Reilly has scored 20 or more goals nine times, including career highs of 28 in 2014 with Colorado and in 2019 with St. Louis. For his career, O'Reilly has 303 goals and 824 points. Outstanding Teacher Winners Announced!
NASHVILLE, TN / ACCESS Newswire / May 6, 2025 / Ponce Law is proud to announce the winners of this year's Outstanding Teacher Contest. For seven years, teachers from all over Tennessee have been honored for making a difference in the lives of others by inspiring students, sharing knowledge, and developing their love of learning. Each April, the Outstanding Teacher Contest sponsored by Ponce Law allows community members to vote online for their favorite teacher for 3 weeks. This year, there were exactly 2,000 votes, and 300 individual teachers were chosen by the nominators as Outstanding Teachers. All 300 teachers will receive Outstanding Teacher Certificates and the top 50 with the most votes will receive a swag bag full of goodies from Ponce Law. This year, the firm also added a separate division for Pre-K, recognizing that students who learn to love school and have a desire to learn at an early stage start their education at an advantage. Chelsea Moore from Bransford Early Learning Center is the winner for the 2025 Top Pre-K Teacher and recipient of $250. Ponce Law gives monetary awards to the top ten teachers. The 1st through 5th place winners will receive $500 each and the 6th through 10th place winners will receive $100 each. Additionally, the school with the most cumulative votes for all its teachers will receive $1,000. In first place with 200 votes is Jeff Gregory of Goodlettsville Elementary. 2nd place is Leslie Fisher of Hendersonville High School. 3rd place is Teresa Fleak of Goodlettsville Elementary. 4th place is Elizabeth Menchaca of Pennington Elementary. 5th place is Dr. Giovanna Diffenback of Overbrook Catholic High. 6th place is Cecilia Gover of Tusculum Elementary School. 7th place is Bethany Stepleton of White House High School. 8th place is Lucas Hilliard of White House High School 9th place is Abby Sanders of Gallatin High School. 10th place winner is Danielle Villafana of White House High School. The Pre-K winner and our top 10 winners will all be invited for a special reception at Ponce Law to celebrate their win. The award for top school is usually one school with the most votes, but this competition's second-place school for votes had more teachers nominated than any other school. Ponce Law decided to award both schools. The first-place school, Goodlettsville Elementary School in Goodlettsville, TN will receive $1,000, and the second-place school, White House High School in White House, TN will be awarded $500. There were some huge TSSAA girls softball performances across the Nashville area last week. Now, you get to choose the best. Vote for the Ponce Law Nashville area girls athlete of the week today. The poll will close Thursday at noon. Cayla Clemmer, Brentwood Academy: Clemmer pitched seven innings allowing only one hit and striking out 12 in a 3-0 win over Pope John Paul II. Paisley Campbell, Coffee County: Campbell was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs in a 3-1 win over Huntsville. Campbell was also 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBIs in a 7-6 loss to Giles County. Anna Brewer, Columbia Academy: Brewer pitched seven innings allowing only three hits and striking out 17 in a 3-1 win over FRA. She also was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs and pitched seven innings allowing four hits and striking out 16 in a 10-2 win over FRA. Bailey Lovell, Columbia: Lovell was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs and pitched seven innings allowing six hits and striking out nine in a 6-4 win over Lincoln County. Heather Scales, DCA: Scales was 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs in DCA's 11-4 victory over CPA on Tuesday. Taylor Moreland, Forrest: Moreland pitched six innings allowing no hits and striking out 15 and was 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and seven RBIs in an 11-4 win over Cannon County. Lizzy Plunkett, Gallatin: Plunkett was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in a loss to East Robertson. Brooklyn Jones, Goodpasture: Jones was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs in a 15-0 win over Mt. Juliet Christian. Bailey Stewart, Gordonsville: Stewart was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and four RBIs in a 22-0 win over Red Boiling Springs. Reagan Walter, Green Hill: Walter was 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBIs against Nolensville. Peyton Kelley, Hendersonville: Kelley was 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Vote for the Nashville area's 2025 early season TSSAA baseball player of the year
The 2025 TSSAA baseball season got underway this week. The Tennessean released its top Nashville area players to watch. We've trimmed that list down to a select view, and now you get to vote your choice for early season player of the year. The poll is below. Voting will close at noon Saturday. Kaden Powell, Beech, Jr.: The Kentucky commitment batted .371 last season with 49 hits, eight home runs, 46 RBIs and 16 stolen bases last season. He batted .314 last season while going 3-2 on the mound with a 2.67 ERA. Korbin Reynolds, Clarksville, Sr.: Reynolds, a Vanderbilt commitment, batted .423 with 55 hits and 37 RBIs, including one home run last season. He also stole 27 bases while helping lead Clarksville to the Class 4A state tournament. Gunner Skelton, Columbia Academy, Jr.: The Vanderbilt infield commitment batted .387 with nine doubles, three triples, four home runs and 36 RBIs. He also added 12 stolen bases while helping lead the Bulldogs to the Division II-A state title. Alex Bedford, Lawrence County, Sr.: Bedford, a Tennessee signee, batted .385 with seven home runs last season while playing outfield and pitching. Jack Dugan, Lipscomb Academy, Jr.: Dugan, a Tennessee commitment, batted .443 with seven doubles, three triples, a home run, 16 RBIs and 21 stolen bases. Grayson Burleson, Loretto, Sr.: Burleson, a former Vanderbilt commitment, maintained a 1.13 ERA with 72 strikeouts in 55.67 innings while at Summertown last year. He also batted .352 with three home runs, 10 doubles, 13 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. Connor Hamilton, Montgomery Bell Academy, Sr.: Hamilton, a Vanderbilt commitment, is a 6-foot-4, 195-pound right-handed pitcher ranked as the No. 4 overall player and top pitcher in Tennessee by Perfect Game. His fastball has reached 96 mph. Cayden King, MTCS, Jr.: King, a right-handed Texas A&M commitment, starred on the mound with a 6-1 record, 1.46 ERA, 69 strikeouts and 25 hits allowed. He batted .213 on offense with eight doubles and 17 RBIs. The 6-foot-5, 205-pound junior's offers include Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Texas, Mississippi State, Oregon, Georgia, LSU and North Carolina. Michael Holt, Ravenwood, Jr.: Holt, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound outfielder committed to Vanderbilt, batted .318 with four doubles, two triples, two home runs, 19 RBIs, 26 runs scored and seven stolen bases. Alexander Peck, University School of Nashville, Sr.: The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Arkansas signee batted .380 with 27 hits, 12 RBIs, 20 stolen bases, four home runs and 26 runs scored in 22 games last season. He is rated by Perfect Game as the No. 139 overall prospect nationally and the No. 44 shortstop in the class of 2025. TISCA championship stars among Nashville area girls athlete of week nominees
There were some big-time performances during the TSSAA basketball girls season last week. Now, you get to choose the best. Vote for the Ponce Law Nashville area girls athlete of the week today. The poll will close Thursday at noon. Alayna Duhart, Brentwood Academy: Duhart had a monster double-double with 19 points, 20 rebounds and a block in a 41-32 win over Harpeth Hall. Laci Wix, Clay County: Wix grabbed 14 rebounds and added eight points in a 46-43 win over Gordonsville. Allie Gillies, Cookeville: Gillies had 24 points, six rebounds and two steals in a 67-58 loss to Lebanon. She also had 14 points, four assists, three rebounds and a block in a 65-22 win over LaVergne. Allye Pennington, East Robertson: Pennington had 34 points, three rebounds and five assists in a win over Greenbrier. More: Tennessee swimming signee Lilly Robertson wins state title TISCA championships Lilly Robertson, Ensworth: The Tennessee swimming signee for All-America status in two events at the TISCA state championships, capping the weekend with a title in the 100 free with a time of 49.84. She won the 50 free on Friday with a time of 23:08. Elizabeth Helmer, Father Ryan: The sophomore won the 200 free swimming state title with a time of 1:49.31 for her first championship. We narrowed it to 15 Ava Krumwiede, Harpeth Hall: Krumwiede had 18 points and 13 rebounds in a five-point win over Brentwood Academy. She also had 15 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks in a one-point loss to Lipscomb Academy. Ellie Butler, Livingston Academy: Butler had 26 points, seven rebounds and two steals in a 59-51 win over Stone Memorial. She also had 29 points and seven rebounds in a 47-43 win over Upperman. Nyla Johnson, Nolensville: Johnson had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, along with four steals in a 44-42 overtime win against Page. She also had 20 points along with five assists and four rebounds in a 60-40 win over Centennial. Kaydence Wisniewski, Oakland: Wisniewski knocked down five 3-pointers and had 23 points with eight steals in a 62-23 win over Siegel. Shelby Higgins, Richland: Higgins poured in 30 points to lead Richland past Santa Fe, 60-26. Zara Kocak, Station Camp: The sophomore won two swimming state titles at the TISCA championships. She dominated in the 500 free Saturday with a first-place finish time of 4:51.73. She won the 100 butterfly in one of the opening night's closest races, finishing with a time of 53.48 ahead of Maryville's Ellie Stanley (53.99). Sadie South, Upperman: South led the Lady Bees with 21 points, two rebounds and two steals in a 63-17 win over DeKalb County. Dasha Biriuk, Webb School-Bell Buckle: Biriuk dropped 25 points, seven rebounds, four steals, two assists and two blocks in a 53-51 win over PCA. Amelia Richardson, Westmoreland: Richardson had 24 points, five rebounds, three assists against Merrol Hyde.
