Tipsters revel their fancy for biggest race of the year at Brighton
Golden Circet is the tipsters' fancy for the biggest race on the Brighton Racecourse calendar. The venue kicks off its three-day Summer Festival on Wednesday with the Sapporo Japanese Premium Lager Brighton Mile Challenge Handicap topping the bill (3.45pm). Press Association tipsters say Golden Circet can defy a 2lb rise to take the glory. The five-year-old has enjoyed a solid year, coming on from what was a lengthy absence on his seasonal debut at Chelmsford in April to win at Bath. He went close twice at Windsor and Newbury before getting his nose back in front at Epsom last time out. Last year's Brighton Mile saw 28-1 outsider Uncle Dick come from last to first in the final furlong for a thrilling win. PA believe Pop Dancer can maintain his impressive form this term in the Star Sports We Believe In Bookmaking Handicap. The eight-year-old has not finished outside the top three on his last six starts and has shown a liking for the Sussex track, where he has won three times. He won at Goodwood in May before being beaten by just three-quarters of a length at Brighton but then went one better on his return to the seaside. Newsboy's has two big fancies at Brighton on Wednesday, with his Nap, Pop Dancer running in the 6.00 and his next best, Devasboy, going in the 7.30 POP DANCER can prove a big hit for punters in the Handicap (6.00) over five and a half furlongs at Brighton tomorrow evening. A two-time course and distance winner, the eight-year-old came good 18 days ago after an 18-race losing streak, making all to comfortably land a five-runner Goodwood handicap by half a length over the minimum trip. Undulating courses suit Tony Carroll's gelding, and a third win on the Sussex Downs course looks on the cards as he takes a drop in class. Later on the same card, DEVASBOY has had an even longer gap in between victories, his last being at Chester nearly three years ago. But despite the wait, the six-year-old has the opportunity to score a second course and distance success in the Download The Star Sports App Handicap (7.30) over a mile. He ran well at Chepstow last week on fast ground over seven furlongs, running on strongly under Tom Marquand in the closing stages to finish third of 13, a length and a half behind Ravenglass.
