Popeyes launches surprise new menu item to compete with McDonald's

It's a wrap battle. Fans who can't wait for McDonald's beloved Snack Wrap to return now have another option: Popeyes is introducing Chicken Wraps to its menu. On Monday, June 2, the fried chicken chain announced that the new item will be available at participating restaurants nationwide for a limited time. Starting June 2, Popeyes is bringing Chicken Wraps to its menu. Popeyes According to a press release, the Chicken Wraps are 'generously sized' and available in three bold variations for $3.99 each. Popeyes' Chicken Wraps feature a hand-breaded and battered chicken tender, lettuce, shredded cheese and crunchy pickles. The wrap can be topped with your choice of a Classic, Spicy or Honey Mustard spread, all wrapped into a tortilla inspired by the chain's famous biscuits. 'With our new Chicken Wraps, we've taken our iconic chicken tenders and wrapped them in something completely new, bringing all that craveable crunch in a fresh, portable way,' Chef Amy Alarcon, VP of Culinary Innovation at Popeyes, said in a statement. 'We wanted to create a Chicken Wrap that was undeniably Popeyes. Infusing the flavors from our famous biscuit into our wraps was the perfect way to ensure our signature flavors shined through.' The Chicken Wraps are 'generously sized' and available in three bold variations for $3.99 each. Popeyes On top of the new chicken item, Popeyes is launching a new beverage lineup of Blueberry Lemonade and teas, building on the hype of the viral Pickle Lemonade the chain dropped in April. The new lineup includes Blueberry Lemonade (Chilled or Frozen), Blueberry Cane Sweet Tea and Blueberry Unsweet Tea. Popeyes' Chicken Wrap comes as fans are anxiously awaiting the return of the Snack Wrap at McDonald's. While the Golden Arches has been keeping the exact return date under wraps, the company's official X account posted in April, 'snack wraps 0x.14.2025,' implying that it will be on menus before the end of the year, likely before October when the months go into double digits. McDonald's launched their new McCrispy Strips in April, which McDonald's USA President Joe Erlinger previously said would 'allow us to eventually have a McCrispy Snack Wrap.'

Forget plain lemonade—pickle lemonade is the cool new summer sip: Simple recipe for you

F or the longest time, there's been nothing more satisfying than sipping a cool, refreshing glass of lemonade—on a sandy beach, after a long hike, or simply to beat the summer heat. Our humble lemonade has always been a reliable comfort drink, but guess what? It's time to give your go-to lemonade a twist—say hello to the drink of the summer: pickle lemonade! And if you're thinking, pickles in my drink?—well, you're not alone. Even pop star Dua Lipa tried mixing pickle juice into her soda last year, sparking a viral trend online. So why not take that tangy idea a step further and let it redefine your summer sip? The surprising birth of pickle lemonade As per the New York Times, the drink was born in a moment of unexpected inspiration. While working on the now-iconic chicken sandwich, the team in Popeyes' test kitchen found themselves awash in leftover barrel-aged pickle brine. Rather than let it go to waste, they decided to experiment—resulting in a refreshing drink that took everyone by surprise. Amy Alarcon, vice president of culinary innovation at Popeyes, said it started 'as a lark,' but soon the team realized it wasn't just a novelty; it was genuinely delicious and hydrating. After years of perfecting the balance and finding enough pickles to make it happen, the bright, electric-green pickle lemonade made its official debut in early April, alongside fried pickle chips. And just like that, a new summer drink sensation was born. What's the deal with pickle lemonade? Pickle lemonade is exactly what it sounds like—your classic lemonade, but with a salty, tangy twist from dill pickle brine. While it might sound a little weird, pickle lemonade is quickly becoming the talk of the summer for its surprising flavor. And the idea of mixing pickle brine into drinks isn't exactly new. Think of the legendary pickleback shots (whiskey chased with pickle brine), the briny tang of a pickle martini, and not to mention that Disneyland once offered a pickle lemonade that divided fans—some loved it, others said, 'I love pickles, but this is gross!' In reality, cultures around the world have long experimented with salty or fermented lemonades. In Brazil, there's the creamy, sweet-tart limonada made with bright green limes and condensed milk. In India, nimbu pani combines lemon, salt, mint, and cumin for a spicy-salty-citrusy refresher. And in Vietnam, the preserved lemons in nuoc chanh muoi provide a drink that's salty, sweet, and incredibly thirst-quenching—often dubbed 'Vietnam's version of Gatorade. ' How to make pickle lemonade at home Ready to jump on the pickle lemonade trend? Here's a simple recipe to make about 5 cups of this refreshing drink: Total Time: 20 minutes Yield: About 5 cups Ingredients: 7 large organic lemons, room temperature ⅔ cup sugar 3 cups chilled, filtered water 1 to 1¼ cups dill pickle juice (plus pickle spears for garnish) Ice, for serving Steps: Thinly slice 1 lemon for garnish. Squeeze enough to get 1 cup of lemon juice. Save the peels and any leftover lemon quarters. In a large jar or pitcher, combine the sugar with the lemon peels. Muddle together with a wooden spoon until the sugar mostly dissolves. Pour in the lemon juice. Cover and shake (or stir well) until the sugar fully dissolves. Add the chilled water and start with 1 cup of pickle juice. You can add later if you want more tanginess Strain through a fine-mesh sieve. Serve over ice in tall glasses, and garnish with a lemon slice and a crunchy pickle spear! One step to a healthier you—join Times Health+ Yoga and feel the change

I tried Popeyes' viral, ‘dill-icious' pickle menu and here's everything you need to know

Popeyes new, limited-time pickle menu is going viral on social media, and after taste testing it myself, I can honestly see the hype and appeal. If you happen to be a pickle lover, much like I am, the new menu lineup is a surefire hit, and might I say 'dill-icious.' A post shared by Popeyes Canada (@popeyesca) With the pickle menu in front of me, the item that had to be tested first was unquestionably the fried pickles. The thin-sliced, fried pickle bites were just as I imagined them to be — crispy, dilly, with a hint of peppery spice to bring it all together. Pair the fried pickles with the blackened ranch dip, and you've got yourself an appetizer for the ages. Fortunately, the fried pickles are here to stay, and are featured on Popeyes $4 items menu. A post shared by Popeyes Canada (@popeyesca) The pickle glaze sandwich was next on the must-try queue, and it exceed my expectations. The crispy, hand-battered chicken is coated in a zesty pickle flavoured glaze and topped with, you guessed it, thick-cut pickles, creating a seasoned, dilly aroma. If you like Popeyes' classic chicken sandwich and happen to already ask for extra pickles during your visits, this sandwich is a match made in heaven. The pickle glaze wings, available boneless and bone-in, were the showstoppers of the new menu. Both versions are tossed in a bold, tangy, mouth-watering pickle flavoured glaze, and come packed with a punch of heat and a dilly essence. While they already come quite flavourful, pairing it with the bayou Buffalo dip it came with added an extra kick and zest, making for what was easily the most memorable bite of the day. A post shared by Popeyes Canada (@popeyesca) If pickles and dill are typically something you gravitate toward, then any of the pickle menu items will be a hit, but if you haven't dabbled in pickled food, it may be an acquired taste. The pickle menu is available at participating restaurants across Canada for a limited time.

We Ate Everything On Popeyes' New Pickle Menu, And There's One Item Everyone Should RUN To Grab Before It's Gone

For all the seriously messed-up things we collectively dealt with in April, this month had one gleaming, shiny bright spot: beloved fried chicken chain Popeyes released a completely pickle-themed menu. The very-real (and very-buzzy) news went live on April 1, which made it probably the best piece of counterprogramming we could've asked for on an otherwise horrific day of April Fool's Day corporate hijinks and gags. Even outside of the corporate world, the news really hit. In the past weeks, Popeyes' pickle menu has been making headlines and going viral just about everywhere. Everyone and their mother (seemingly) made a TikTok video taste-testing the entire line of pickle-y items. Sites like The Takeout called it the "best menu ever." In perhaps the biggest shock to me, personally, J. Kenji López-Alt — aka the internet's favorite food expert — called the menu"shockingly good" and "some of the best fast food [he's] ever had." If that's not high praise, IDK what is. Suffice it to say, it took no more than three strolls past Popeyes' NYC flagship on my commute to the office to decide that we needed to hop on a pickle menu taste test to see what all the fuss was about. (Actually, I'm kidding. I knew we were gonna do a taste test from the first time I watched Kenji take a saucy lil' bite of that fiery red pickle-glazed wing.) Let's make one thing clear: no pickle haters here. I grabbed Meg, a bona fide pickle lover and fellow Tasty team member, to conduct this taste test with me. And in case you're forgetting how much I love pickles, never forget that I once conducted a solo taste test of all the most popular pickle brands out there for this exact website. That's commitment. BuzzFeed Anyways! Moving on to the dill-icious stuff (sorry). The official Popeyes pickle menu, which is a limited-time offering only (we'll see about that 👀), has five core menu items: three Pickle Glaze items, including a sandwich, bone-in wings, and boneless wings; fried pickles; and pickle lemonade, which comes in regular and frozen varieties. BuzzFeed Since the pickle glaze is the only thing that sets this menu's chicken apart from Popeyes' regular fried chicken, we opted for the boneless wings to get the most meat in each bite. To confirm their process, yes, I saw a Popeyes worker toss regular boneless wings into our box and shake 'em up with pickle glaze. That's it! There's no other magic. Meg and I found a quiet corner to gorge ourselves on fried food and syrupy sweet beverages, quietly taking notes to ourselves on how each item tasted as we progressed through the bunch. How pickle-y did each item taste? Was the pickle flavor warranted or weird? Most of it even good? BuzzFeed These are all questions we, lucky for you, were ultimately able to answer. At the end of our tasting experience, we independently assigned pickle scores (aka how pickle-y each item tasted) and overall scores out of five to each item, then silently ranked them from five to one — worst to best — and compared notes. Spoiler alert: we were in complete agreement in our rankings, and that's saying something. 5. Regular Pickle Lemonade — For a drink that seemed like it would be a total pickle gimmick, it was anything but. Actually, dare we say, it could be even more pickle-y. BuzzFeed Popeyes' regular pickle lemonade was icy cold, super lemony, and had just a bit of pickle flavor you could taste at the end of each sip. Honestly, they could've afforded to amp up the pickle-y notes in this drink; maybe it's just a syrup they add to their regular lemonade, and they skimped this time for some reason. We may never know. Unlike most fast food lemonades, this one tasted fresh, too: the lemon tasted more or less real, it wasn't sickeningly sweet, and overall was a delightful drink to leisurely sip on without feeling like you were guzzling something syrupy-sweet. The only reason this one didn't get a higher rating? Somehow, the other items hit even harder. 4. Pickle Glaze Wings — Were they good? Very (at least I thought so). Were they pickle-y enough? Absolutely not. BuzzFeed Meg and I were sorta split on these wings when it comes to their overall score; I thought they were exceptional, she thought they were just good. But we agreed that there was absolutely no pickle flavor detected whatsoever. The sauce slathered all over them was very tasty, for the record! It's smoky and perfectly balanced between sweet and salty, and honestly not like any sauce I've ever had on my wings. But truthfully, for a pickle menu, we wanted more pickle! Still, the chicken itself was juicy and tender, and the signature Popeyes fried coating adhered beautifully and lent a loud crunch to each and every bite. We weren't misled, perhaps. Pro-tip: If you order these wings at Popeyes, ask for a side of pickles to go with them. Topped with a pickle chip, each bite would truly be earth-shattering. 3. Frozen Pickle Lemonade — Barring its intense sweetness, this drink is the holy grail of frozen lemonades. Dilly, tart, and perfectly slushy, I guess frozen lemonade has always been secretly begging to be pickle-ified. BuzzFeed There's no denying that this beverage is ridiculously sweet, but its sugary zing is almost completely balanced by the saltiness of the pickle flavoring. As Meg said, it's basically just "salty lemonade" with pickle flavor, but don't let that weird you out. It's good. Very good, in fact. While tart, it's also not overly acidic, which I appreciated; I was expecting pickleback levels of acidity, so my stomach and I were pleasantly surprised that each and every sip was smooth and delightful. Pro-tip: This + a shot of bourbon (!) would be the most epic summer cocktail of all time. Popeyes, if you're reading this, please keep this on the menu long enough so I can make this dream a reality. 2. Fried Pickles — While not the best fried pickles we've had, for fast food, they were epic and jam-packed with before dipping them. I've never met a fried pickle I didn't like, but I've certainly met a fried pickle I didn't love — and lucky for me, Popeyes' fried pickles fell squarely into the "really loved" category. The breading was the best part, hands down. Full of that signature Popeyes savory zing, I'd actually say they were some of the most flavorful fried pickles I've ever tasted, even before dipping them into a vat of ranch. Our two qualms? First, the pickles could've been sliced a little thicker. With so much (tasty!) breading, the pickle innards felt slightly sad by comparison. Second — and this is fully nitpicking — they could've been a bit crunchier, but I'm sure this is just a result of them sitting in their hopper before being scooped up for our order. Actually, knowing they probably sat for a while before being served to us, we were kinda impressed by how much crispiness remained. Moral of the story: If you can somehow get a straight-out-of-the-fryer batch, eating one of these fried pickles might be nothing short of a holy experience. 1. Pickle Glaze Sandwich — No notes. OK, very few notes, but all in all, this is one impressive chicken sandwich that tastes like something you'd easily pay $15+ for, not $7. I've always been a fan of the Popeyes chicken sandwich, but IMO, the pickle glaze upped the ante even further (and Meg agreed). Our favorite part of this sandwich was how dang crispy the chicken stayed, even slathered in sauce. Each bite was ASMR-worthy and reverberated around my brain as I chomped. That's seriously crunchy, folks. Could the piece of succulent fried chicken have been coated or tossed in the sweet-smoky pickle glaze instead of just dolloping the sauce on top? Sure. Could they have added on a few more pickle chips, considering this is a pickle-flavored sandwich? Also sure. But overall, we both agreed that this was an undeniably special sandwich, and we wouldn't hesitate to order it again, especially at its $7 price point. There you have it, y'all. If you're drooling all over your phone by now, swing by Popeyes before May 5 when the pickle menu supposedly will disappear for good. Though, to be honest, I think Popeyes would be smart to keep it around.
