Trent Alexander-Arnold ‘banned from Currys and Popworld' after quitting Liverpool for Real Madrid in free transfer
TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD has been "banned" from two major venues in Liverpool. It comes after he announced he would be leaving Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the season. 3 3 3 Alexander-Arnold is ending a 20-year association with the Reds after breaking through the academy and helping the club to win a host of major honours, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League. The 26-year-old called it "easily the hardest decision of my life", with widespread reports suggesting he will be joining Real Madrid to link up with pal Jude Bellingham. However, in their own announcement, Liverpool FC issued a blunt statement about his exit and clearly indicated that the defender leaving was his own decision rather than one backed by the club. And the controversial decision prompted some venues in the city to take extreme measures to show their discontent... with cheeky posts on social media declaring he was banned. The first of these was entertainment venue, Popworld Liverpool, who simply posted on social media: "Barred @TrentAA." The official Currys X, formerly Twitter, account then weighed in by sharing a video of a staff member walking up the window, where a poster with a photo of Alexander-Arnold was visible with the caption: "Banned. Please do not enter." The electrical goods retailer added the caption: "Banned from all Currys stores in Liverpool." Reacting on social media, one fan said: "Companies of culture." A second said: "I rate this." A third added: "Hahahaha! I'm here for the pettiness!" Trent Alexander-Arnold announces he is leaving Liverpool after 20 years in emotional video Liverpool Another said: "Love this." Reports have indicated Alexander-Arnold told the club and manager Arne Slot he would be leaving in March. Alexander-Arnold's emotional statement saw him say: "After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season. "This is easily the hardest decision I've ever made in my life. "I know many of you have wondered why or been frustrated that I haven't spoken about this yet, but it was always my intention to keep my full focus on the team's best interests, which was securing No.20. "This club has been my whole life – my whole world - for 20 years. "From the Academy right through until now, the support and love I have felt from everyone inside and outside of the club will stay with me forever. I will forever be in debt to you all. "But, I have never known anything else and this decision is about experiencing a new challenge, taking myself out of my comfort zone and pushing myself both professionally and personally. "I've given my all every single day I've been at this club, and I hope you feel like I've given back to you during my time here. "From the bottom of my heart, I thank everybody – my coaches, my managers, my teammates, the staff and our incredible supporters - for the last 20 years. "I've been blessed enough to live out my dreams here and I will never, ever take for granted the special moments I've been fortunate enough to have lived through with you all. "My love for this club will never die." Should his expected transfer to Spanish giants Real Madrid happen, he will be only the seventh Englishman to star for the Bernabeu outfit. This includes ex-Liverpool players Steve McManaman and Michael Owen, who like Alexander-Arnold, quit Anfield for Madrid. Trent Alexander-Arnold's Liverpool exit interview TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD spoke to Liverpool's in-house club media to explain his decision to leave Anfield. Here are the key parts... I think first and foremost, I want to say it's not an easy decision and there's a lot of thought and feeling that has gone into it. I've been here 20 years now, loved every single minute of it, achieved all my dreams, achieved everything I've ever wanted to here. Giving everything day in, day out for 20 years, I've got to a point now where I feel like I need a change, a new challenge for me as a player and as a person. And I think now is the right time for me to do that. Obviously there's been a lot of noise around what the decision was going to be and how that was going to look. I know a lot of people will say I should have said sooner, a lot of people will say maybe I waited for the right time. But I felt personally the focus should always be on the pitch. I've got full confidence in the manager and the staff and the club going forward. It's not about me thinking we're not going to fight for titles or fight for trophies season in, season out... it was never about not having confidence in that, it just boiled down to what I felt I needed, and that is a change. Growing up, seeing players leave that I've loved watching and have helped the team win trophies, you feel a connection to the players that you watch, especially when they bring success to the club as well. So, I completely understand the feelings that go with that and I've felt it myself so I completely understand that the news will disappoint a lot of people, will anger people, it will make them upset. Obviously that went into the decision as well – it's something you don't want to do, you don't want to ever have these moments where you feel like you're letting a lot of people down, you're disappointing a lot of people. But I've had to make a decision for me, it's as simple as that. It's a difficult one, it's one that has played on my mind for a long time but being able now to get it off my chest will feel like a weight is lifted. And I think it's important for the fans to know where I stand and know what the truth is. I fell in love with the club from a very, very young age and that's something that has grown and grown day in, day out. This club has given me the opportunities to achieve everything beyond my wildest dreams. I can never repay enough of what's been given to me and I don't take it for granted at all. I've given everything every single day for 20 years now. I've sacrificed everything. I know the news will take a bit of time to set in and people won't be happy and they'll be disappointed. At the end of the day, you can be angry and hurt at me but I just hope that the lads, the rest of the team, the staff, everyone else is able to feel how good a season this has been and able to feel the love and support from the fans as they have done all season. There's no doubt about it, I'll be back – I'd love one day to be able to bring my kids to Anfield and show them that that's where I've played and show them the videos and highlights of what we were able to achieve together. So just a huge thank you for that, thank you for everything you've ever done for me. Thank you for the support, thank you for the love that I've always felt, thank you for always having my back. I will always love the club, I will always love the people of the club, I will always love the fans and the supporters. Even though I'm leaving as player, as a fan I'll always be a Liverpool fan.

Alexa Chung is selling her wardrobe. Here's how to get your hands on it
In the 20 years since she first found fame as a presenter on the cult C4 show Popworld, Alexa Chung has sparked almost as many trends as her icon, Jane Birkin. If you've ever dug your old Barbour out of the wardrobe, or worn a Peter Pan collar, a Mary Jane shoe, a cropped jean or a Breton top, it's likely because Chung inspired you. She might look like a model (and recently rekindled that career by walking in Miu Miu's spring/summer show), but her secret sauce is her ability to wear clothes in an accessible way - a relatable, slightly off-kilter way that's quintessentially British. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Vinted (@vinted) Anyone who's coveted or copied her style will be delighted by her latest partnership, which isn't with Mulberry (its bestselling Alexa was named after her), Barbour (she's a frequent collaborator) or Madewell (for whom she recently designed a denim capsule collection), but with Vinted, the online marketplace for second-hand items that boasts 105 million global users, 16 million of whom are in the UK. Which means a lot of fingers will be poised on May 4th, when items from her personal wardrobe land on the site, including a bubblegum pink Gucci handbag, black Saint Laurent pumps and an embroidered Miu Miu bralette. 'It was actually harder than I thought it was going to be,' Chung says of the process of choosing what to let go, speaking via Zoom from the sage green bedroom in her newly renovated East London home. 'I have a lot of clothes, but I wouldn't say that the quality of those clothes is necessarily as high as people might think, given that anything I wear to events is borrowed. But I'm also really sentimental. Whether it's an ancient Kate Moss for Topshop dress or a vintage t shirt, I find it hard to let go of the memories.' She says that some items were decidedly off-limits. 'I wouldn't part with anything that a designer had given me personally. I have a Chanel leather jacket that Karl Lagerfeld gave me, as well as some Chanel Couture silver boots, which I've had since my twenties. I used to really kick about in them, as all young people do, not really understanding their value.' Although she thinks Lagerfeld would have approved of this gung-ho approach. As a guest at Chanel's Cruise show in Cap d'Antibes in 2011, she remembers mucking about with her front row cohorts on the beach. 'We all jumped into the sea in his clothes,' she recalls. 'I looked up and saw him on a balcony, thinking we'd get into trouble, but he was really happy.' Now 41, she's not a fan of any prescriptive notions that women can't wear X as soon as they turn Y, although she has become more aware of the virtue of having a fail-safe uniform for those occasions where you need to look put-together. 'I've gone from 'I dunno – wear whatever you think' to realising, as I've matured, that it's not that easy.' Her own style formula? 'A tailored trouser is always good. Anything that's been around for over 50 years is going to look okay, because it's fit for purpose. A classic jean. I'm not talking about leaning into trends and going low rise, high rise or flare – just a straight-legged jean, as they were first intended. If you're ever not sure about how to look put together, reach for the classics: a trench coat, a button down shirt, a crew neck jumper. Uniqlo do amazing lambswool ones, although I'd go to the men's department, because the fit is more straightforward. It's okay to borrow from the boys.' Not that she borrows her own boyfriend's clothes. 'Absolutely not,' she says emphatically, as I try to recall what her rumoured fiance, the actor Tom Sturridge (who clearly favours stylish women; his ex is Sienna Miller), tends to wear. 'Maybe some jumpers,' she softens. 'There's a crossover, but we've got quite different style, I'd say.' Does he ever get involved in hers, and offer his opinions? 'No,' she smiles. 'I feel like the Kanye school of dudes dressing their gals is a really weird thing.' Another factor that encouraged her to donate to Vinted was the realisation that her style was changing. 'I haven't sat down and analysed where I want to go next with it – it's more intuitive. You put things on and don't feel like yourself in that particular shape. I still love a mini skirt, but I reach for them less and less, not necessarily because I don't like the quality or shape of my legs - more that suddenly, I don't feel as powerful in that look. They also seem quite frivolous and flirty at a time when that's not really on the menu.' Her style may have changed, but it will always be eclectic. After we finish speaking, she's off to a baby shower, and is dressed for the occasion in a black lace Dôen top, chosen because 'it looks a bit Chloé', worn with black trousers that she describes as 'a man slack'. 'I feel like everyone's going to be dressed in pink, all flowy and pretty,' she smiles. 'I thought it would be quite funny to walk in as winter's witch.' And while the item she too often buys on repeat is a navy jumper ('I've never met one I didn't want to own!'), quiet luxury is not for her. 'It seems a bit depressing on some level. It's a bit drab, and I don't know that we should all try and emulate the style of the 1 per cent. They're not necessarily the most creative, interesting or culturally nutritious people, so I don't know if I aspire to look like someone that's bland.' All proceeds from her Vinted sales will be donated to Endometriosis UK. She chose the charity after encountering it during her own experience with endometriosis, a condition that affects one in ten women in the UK. 'A number of years ago, I had a laparoscopy to help cure it,' she explains. 'They don't really know how to cure endometriosis, but they do like cutting it out of people quite a lot, just on the off chance that it might work. I do come up against this wall, where no matter how helpful or amazing the doctors I've seen have been, you reach a point in the cul de sac of information where you realise there's a definitive end to the amount of treatment they can give you. I find it super frustrating. It's part of the canon of women's health issues that are desperately under-researched.' While she hopes to raise funds, she also hopes to raise awareness 'so that people can identify their pain. I've always found it immensely helpful to know that you're not making something up, because when it is something to do with menstruation or your uterus, it's embedded in our patriarchal society that complaints from women about their own bodies aren't necessarily heard in full. It's comforting to hear that other people are going through something, or even have a name for the thing that you suspect you're feeling.' Alexa's items will be available to purchase from 4 May 2025 at 6pm for Vinted members in the UK. A second drop of further unique items from brands including Dior and Loewe will follow in June 2025.
