Video shows man pinned down at Newark airport, Indian consulate in touch with US authorities
The Indian Consulate in New York said they have gotten in touch with authorities in the United States after videos purportedly showing 'an Indian student' being handcuffed and pinned to the floor at the Newark airport came to light on Sunday night. Posted on X by an Indian-American entrepreneur, Kunal Jain, the videos and photographs showed an unidentified young individual handcuffed and crying at the airport. Jain, who tagged the Indian Embassy in Washington DC and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in his series of posts, said he was speaking in 'Haryanvi language and accent' and was pleading that the authorities were bent upon declaring him mentally unfit. Taking cognisance of this, the Indian Consulate in New York said on Monday evening, 'We have come across social media posts claiming that an Indian national is facing difficulties at Newark Liberty International Airport. We are in touch with local authorities in this regard.' The Consulate remains committed to the welfare of Indian nationals, they said. According to Jain, who said he witnessed the event firsthand, the young man appeared to be in distress and was crying as the Port Authority Police officers restrained him. There is no confirmation if the said individual has left Newark or has arrived in India, as per those aware of the matter. Authorities are presently trying to ascertain the date and time of the video, and the identity of the said individual, they said. Calling it a human tragedy, Jain wrote on X, 'I witnessed a young Indian student being deported from Newark Airport last night — handcuffed, crying, treated like a criminal. As an NRI, I felt helpless and heartbroken.' Photographs and video clips shared by Jain show the young man being restrained by officers from the Port Authority Police Department (PAPD), the agency responsible for law enforcement across major transport hubs in New York and New Jersey. A call made by The Indian Express to Port Authority Police Department at Newark International Airport didn't elicit any details, except for the officer saying that 'the PAPD doesn't get involved in deportations'. Unlicensed Queens plastic surgeon leaves woman brain dead in botched butt procedure: NYPD
A bogus doctor illegally performing plastic surgery butt procedures out of his Queens home left a client brain dead, officials said Tuesday. Felipe Hoyos-Foronda, 38, was arrested Friday after medics were called to his home on 35th St. near 20th Road in Astoria for a botched procedure on a client looking to remove a butt implant, police sources said. FDNY medics found the 31-year-old woman in cardiac arrest after she had been injected with lidocaine, commonly used in plastic surgery as a local anesthetic to numb specific areas. When first responders saw the makeshift doctor's office in Hoyos-Foronda's house they requested police respond to the scene. Hoyos-Foronda was not licensed to perform the procedures, cops say. As medics rushed the woman to Mount Sinai Queens, Hoyos-Foronda sped off to JFK Airport, where his license plate was captured on the Van Wyck Expressway, according to police sources. Officers from the Port Authority Police Department arrested him inside the airport after he had already passed through security, telling authorities he was a licensed doctor in Colombia, sources said. According to prosecutors, the victim's doctor believes she suffered lidocaine toxicity, a condition that occurs when excessive amounts of the anesthetic enter the bloodstream, leading to symptoms such as seizures, irregular heart rhythms and in severe cases, respiratory failure or cardiac arrest. She remains intubated at the hospital, has no brain activity and is not expected to survive, prosecutors said. Hoyos-Foronda was charged with assault and unauthorized practice of profession. He was ordered held without bail during his arraignment in Queens Criminal Court. Hoyos-Foronda is believed to perform the shady surgeries in both New York and Miami. In a 2023 TikTok he advertised he charges up to $1,000 for the procedures, including Botox, lip injections and micro needling. Cops released a photo of Hoyos-Foronda and asked any additional victims to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
