She's coming out: Diana Ross named godmother of Royal Caribbean's Star of the Seas
Do you know where you're going to? Star of the Seas will be Diana Ross' destination this August, as the legendary singer will serve as the Royal Caribbean ship's godmother. "I am truly honored to join the Royal Caribbean family," Ross said. "Having spent years of creating beautiful music and memories and bringing people together from all over the world, this feels like a perfect continuation of my journey, as godmother of Star of the Seas." Ross will attend the ship's naming ceremony, for which details have yet to be announced. Star of the Seas, sister ship of Icon of the Seas, will sail year-round from Port Canaveral. "We couldn't imagine a more fitting godmother for Star than Diana Ross, who is a true icon known for creating music that transcends generations while celebrating life and bringing people together," said Royal Caribbean International president Michael Bayley. Royal Caribbean schedules a fourth preview cruise for Star of the Seas
Royal Caribbean International is offering yet another opportunity to be amongst the first to experience Star of the Seas. There will be a fourth showcase sailing before the ship's maiden voyage, and it will depart Port Canaveral on Aug. 16. The four-night cruise will visit Perfect Day at CocoCay like the previously announced showcase sailings. The date of the latest short cruise is nearly the same date as the originally scheduled maiden voyage, which had been Aug. 17. In February 2024, Royal Caribbean pushed back the Star's maiden cruise to Aug. 31, anticipating a delay in the ship's delivery. Star of the Seas is Royal Caribbean's second Icon-class ship. It will sail weeklong Caribbean cruises from Port Canaveral in its first season. The ship cleared its sea trials last month and is in the final stages of construction at the Meyer Turku yard in Finland.

MSC Cruises introduces fixed-price specialty dining and restaurant packages
Specialty dining on MSC Cruises ships will now mostly have fixed prices for a three-course meal. Guests will pay a set price for their choice of one starter, a main course and dessert. Guests will pay an additional charge for special menu items like Ozaki beef. Two restaurants will still have a la carte ordering available: Kaito Sushi and Hola! Taco and Cantina. Specialty dining packages In another new development, guests can purchase specialty dining packages with up to four restaurants for select cruises departing Miami, Port Canaveral and New York this summer. The option will be available for remaining eligible ships by next April, MSC said. MSC said guests who purchase a specialty dining package before their cruise can save up to 20%. Selected specialty restaurants may be repeated without restriction except for Butcher's Cut, which is limited to one visit per multi-restaurant package. Ships that have two or fewer specialty dining restaurants will not offer the packages. MSC said the changes to specialty dining are intended to simplify the experience and increase value and flexibility.

Disney Cruise Line technical glitch creates boarding headaches
When my family and I took our first Disney cruise from Port Canaveral just a few weeks ago, the check-in and boarding experience gave us a wonderful first impression. Disney's expertise in queue management shined during both the embarkation and disembarkation process during our Disney Fantasy sailing.A sophisticated online check-in system and well-organized port arrival and boarding process minimized wait times and got us onto the ship and into relaxation mode more quickly than I expected, based on my past experiences sailing with other cruise lines. But occasionally, technology fails even the savviest of companies like Disney. Unfortunately for passengers on a few recent sailings, a technical glitch with Disney Cruise Line's online check-in system required some vital pieces of the process to be completed all over again in person at the cruise terminal, leading to wait times that were much longer than usual.'Due to a technical issue with Online Check-in for your sailing, we will need to verify all Guests' documentation during the check-in process at the terminal on embarkation day. This includes reviewing citizenship documentation and capturing photos for each Guest. Please be sure to bring all required identification and travel documents with you,' the cruise line wrote in an email to passengers on affected sailings. Cruises impacted by the technical glitch included the May 12 and May 16 sailings of the Disney Dream from Fort Lauderdale and the May 16 sailing of the Disney Wish from Port Canaveral.'As a result, Guests may experience an extended wait during the check-in process. Please plan to arrive at your assigned Port Arrival Time, and travel with any convenience items you may need should you encounter a delay at the terminal,' the cruise line advised passengers. 'The entire process took 2 hours and 14 minutes from our assigned 12:30 port arrival time to walking onto the ship,' Browniegirl23 shared in the DCL community on Reddit about boarding the Disney Dream on May 12. Passengers reported that the issue led to a slight delay in the Disney Magic's departure from Port Canaveral on May 11, boarding the Disney Dream on May 16 reported much better boarding news, however. 'Just boarded the Dream and had no issues. Even though we received the email warning us [of] possible delays, we had no wait at all. Hopefully those arriving after us and future cruise passengers encounter the same flawless boarding experience,' Proud-Spite-5891 posted in the Reddit community. According to a Reddit user who appeared to be a Disney cast member, the cruise line's team had been working tirelessly to resolve the issue. 'We worked 16 hours yesterday until 2 a.m. to fix that issue because we really wanted you to have a smooth embarkation! Have a magical trip and thanks for posting this! It means a lot to see that we made a difference,' sonnyz the Reddit thread, passengers also took the opportunity to let sonnyz and the Disney Cruise Line team know that their efforts are much appreciated. 'The thanks should go to you and everyone involved for working so diligently to solve the problem! IT issues are tough to resolve. We know it wasn't your fault or the crews' fault. We appreciate all of you,' Proud-Spite-5891 replied. 'You're amazing! Thank you for your efforts. People may not thank you when things go smoothly but they certainly notice when they don't. I hope you know you and your team are appreciated,' 317ant added. (The Arena Group will earn a commission if you book a cruise.) , or email Amy Post at or call or text her at 386-383-2472.

Royal Caribbean reveals new dining and entertainment for Star of the Seas
Royal Caribbean on Tuesday revealed details about new entertainment and dining aboard Star of the Seas, the line's second Icon-class ship debuting this August. Like sister Icon of the Seas, the Star will have a supper club concept. The upcoming one, Lincoln Park Supper Club, will have a Chicago theme (the Empire Supper Club on the Icon has an old New York theme). Royal Caribbean said the specialty restaurant "will serve up a multicourse dining journey inspired by 1930s Chicago." Royal Caribbean said live jazz music will be paired with "sophisticated cocktails and curated dishes that nod back to iconic dining spots in the Windy City, from the Chez Paree nightclub to the famed Pump Room." At the AquaDome Market, a food hall exclusive to the Icon class, there will be five food stands -- three of them new. One will serve smoked pulled pork and beef brisket. Another will feature Southeast Asian dishes like pad thai and beef panang, and another South American specialties like empanadas and arepas. The Star of the Seas will debut on Aug. 20, departing on a preview cruise from Port Canaveral. Photo Credit: Royal Caribbbean New AquaTheater shows Also in the AquaDome neighborhood, the AquaTheater will have a new show: "Torque." Royal Caribbean describes it as "a revved-up aqua show featuring athletic artists, synchronized swimmers, dancers and slackliners for an action-packed show of thrilling stunts, cutting-edge tech and immersive visuals." Also in the AquaTheater will be "Pirates & Mermaids," combining dance, artistic swimming and diving, all set to a "comedic vibe." Royal Caribbean said the pirates meet the mermaids, "culminating in a heartwarming lesson about the true treasure of life." At the Absolute Zero ice arena, "SOL" will star Royal Caribbean's largest ice-skating cast. The all-new ice show follows the sun's path, complete with "mind-blowing stunts and visuals," says Royal Caribbean. An all-new Royal Caribbean production, "Create" will be performed at the Royal Theater. Royal Caribbean said the show follows the "soul-searching journey of a curious robot, KRE-8 -- harnessing song, dance and visual arts." Royal Caribbean previously announced the the Star's headline show will be "Back to the Future: The Musical." The line said the shows songs will be played by the largest orchestra at sea, and that the audience can anticipate "surprise Royal Caribbean twists." The Star of the Seas will debut on Aug. 20, sailing a preview cruise from its homeport, Port Canaveral.
