‘General Hospital' Bids Farewell To Sofia Mattsson After 7 Years
Yesterday's episode of ABC sudser General Hospital saw the departure of Sofia Mattsson's Sasha Gilmore Corbin, a character first introduced in 2018. In the July 18 installment, Sasha and her baby Daisy exit Port Charles safely with the help of Steve Burton's Jason Morgan, as she moves back in with her parents Holly Sutton (Emma Samms) and Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) in Paris, France. Before Jason docks back in the U.S., he reminds Sasha that she will 'always have a home to come back to,' leaving the door open for potential reprisals of the character in the future. 'But she is open for a return in the future.' Meanwhile, executive producer Frank Valentini added: 'I love Sofia, she is a great actress and a dear friend. We will miss her, but we wish her the best in all of her future endeavors.' The actress told the outlet in a Q&A published yesterday that the last day of filming 'was emotional for sure. Cleaning out my room and knowing that I wouldn't see all my friends there like usual every other day felt sad. But everyone was so supportive and excited for me.' She added of the 'bittersweet' farewell: 'I've had such a great time, but I'm also excited for a new chapter and to continue my acting journey in new projects.' Noting that she is 'definitely not opposed to coming back to the soap world,' Mattsson teased that she has 'some exciting new projects in the works, so I hope to see everyone through another screen soon!' Outside of the over 500 installments of GH she's been in, Mattsson has also appeared in episodes of NCIS and Two and a Half Men. General Hospital Recap: Tracy Blackmails Nina Into Helping Her Destroy Sonny originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's General Hospital recap: Lucas worries Sonny grabbed Marco, but Carly says she spoke with Sonny. Lucas says he'll check the church but is certain Marco won't' be there. Marco continues to bang on the door, yelling at whoever grabbed him to let him go, and not to escalate the violence. Jason tells his goon to guard the door and not let Marco out. After Jason leaves, Marco claims he's diabetic and needs to eat something. When the goon opens the door, Marco tries to crack him over the head with the chair. Sidwell demands to know what Sonny has done to Marco, claiming he's done nothing to provoke Sonny. Sidwell claims he didn't set the fire at Charlie's, as it was Selina but Sonny doesn't believe him. Sonny says family shouldn't be targeted but Sidwell came at him first. Sidwell says Marco saved Kristina, but Sonny says he dragged Marco into their mess. Sonny says he wants Sidwell to clean up the political mess and get out of his way. Sidwell puts the blame on Laura, by putting Measure C on the ballot. Sonny tells Sidwell to make sure it doesn't pass. Sidwell says Sonny has alienated everyone and will lose his piers and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Sonny warns him to figure something out or he won't see his son again. Sonny tells Sidwell to pull all of his money from Measure C and fix what he created. Lucas gets to the church, but Jason stops him from going in. Lucas demands to know where Marco is, but Jason tells him to leave. Lucas begs Jason to tell him whether Marco will die. He says it's not right to bring innocent people into the war, but Jason says Sidwell started it. Lucas says Jason's "code" will be a lie and he'll be as bad as Sidwell. Lucas begs Sonny to let Marco go and says if he doesn't show up alive, he'll tell the police all about the deal Sonny made with Natalia. Sonny says the police already know and tells Lucas to leave it. Sidwell tells Lucas that Sonny has Marco and asks him to intervene. He says Lucas needs to save Marco, but Lucas says if Marco is alive then he should give Sonny what he wants. Lucas yells at Sidwell that when he set fire to Charlie's, he put a target on Marco's back. Lucas says Marco's life is in Sidwell's hands. Previous General Hospital (GH) Recap: Jason Leaves Marco Bound and Gagged Tracy tells Nina she has a proposition for her that will benefit both of them. She says she despises Sonny and worries about the bond between him and Gio. Nina defends Sonny but Tracy's determined to protect Gio. Tracy wants Nina's influence with Crimson to get voters to vote for Measure C. Nina says Aurora has already done a hit piece on Sonny and defends him more. Tracy says Sonny killed AJ and won't allow something like that to happen to Gio. Nina says Sonny will do anything to protect his children, but Tracy brings up Morgan. Tracy then brings up Wylie and Amelia and thinks Nina would want them as far away from Sonny as she does. Nina says she still cares for Sonny and wants Tracy to help Willow get access to her kids in exchange. Tracy refuses, saying Nina will do what she wants, or she'll tell Willow she slept with Drew. Nina is shocked but Tracy says she had a PI confirm it. Nina admits it, saying it was brief and meant nothing and was over before Drew and Willow started, but begrudgingly agrees to do what Tracy wants. Willow interrupts Michael to ask about the children. He says Wylie is still confused because of her. Willow blames Michael for everything and warns Sasha he'll do the same to her. Michael says Willow deliberately created the scene at the pool, but Willow says Wylie is her son. Michael says she can't be trusted with the kids and Diane has pushed the visitation hearing to October. Willow says she can't go three months, but Michael tells her to take that time to dump Drew. Willow says she's marrying Drew and Michael says she won't see her kids again. Willow tries to appeal to Sasha, saying her kids need her, but Michael says they don't need her in her current state. Drew shows up at Carly's telling her it's her last chance to save her grandchildren. Drew brings up the altercation at the pool, but Carly blames Willow. Drew says Willow deserves to see her kids and wants Carly to get Michael to compromise. He warns her things will get really ugly if she doesn't. Carly says Michael told Willow she could see the kids if she dumped Drew, but he says he won't abandon Willow. Carly says Willow is always doing what Drew wants rather than taking care of her kids. She says Willow is only devoted to Drew and will never ask Michael to back down. Drew calls her a hypocrite but Carly says Willow doesn't even think for herself. Drew warns if Michael refuses to compromise, it will cause him more misery Carly summons Sonny and argues with him about Marco and Lucas' feelings. She begs him not to do anything else; she doesn't want anyone hurt. When Jason returns to the warehouse, his goon has overtaken Marco and handcuffed him to the chair. Nina runs into Sasha and Daisy on her way out. Sasha tells her that she's leaving and says goodbye. Michael tells Tracy he's sending Daisy away to keep her safe. Willow tells Drew the visitation date was move to October. Drew reassures her that they willl have what it takes to take the kids from Michael, soon enough. On today's General Hospital recap: Nina is shocked and upset Sasha is leaving town, but she says it's not safe for Daisy here. Sasha says one of Sonny's enemies could be behind what happened, and she can't risk her daughter. Nina asks where they're going but Sasha says it's best if no one knows. Nina says she thinks of Sasha as her daughter and feels responsible. Nina's sorry she told Ric about Daisy's paternity, which let out the secret she was Sonny's grandchild. She swears she didn't mean to put Sasha in harm's way, but Sasha says the truth would have come out. Sasha says Nina was only trying to help Willow and understands. Nina promises to be there for them if needed. Michael tells Tracy that Sasha is leaving the country with the baby. Michael wonders if he can take his kids and leave with Sasha. Tracy doesn't think he'll go through with it because he won't do it to Monica. Michael doesn't know how to let Daisy go and possibly never see her again. Tracy says he's putting Daisy first, and everyone will know he's doing it for her protection. Tracy confronts Jason about Michael losing Sasha and Daisy. She says she doesn't want something to happen to Gio and Sonny needs to be kept away. Jason says Gio is an adult and can make his own decision about Sonny. Jason tells Danny he's taking Sasha and the baby out of the country and will be gone for a few days. Later, Danny seeks out Sasha and lets her know he'll miss her and the baby. Stella wants to know why Curtis is using Aurora to attack Sonny, but Curtis says Michael understood. Stella says not only did it hurt Sonny, but also Laura and demands the truth from him. Curtis swears it wasn't his idea but promises he's doing the best he can and will make it up to Laura. Nina goes to Curtis and says she's willing to help him do another hit piece on Sonny. She says as Sonny's ex-wife she can shed the worst light on him. Curtis says he knows she doesn't really want to do this, and figures Drew got to her. Curtis says he knows she and Portia hired Jacinda and they need to devise a plan to stop Drew as soon as possible. Nina doesn't want to turn on Sonny but says she's backed into a corner. He says he needs her to make it look like Michael has an opioid addiction from his treatment. Portia figures he wants to be able to take Michael's kids away from him. On today's General Hospital recap: Aurora's new headline that reads, "How my dream marriage to Sonny Corinthos became my worst nightmare" brings Sonny to Nina's door. He wants to know why she lied to the press and Nina admits Tracy is blackmailing her. She swears their marriage was special and she didn't want to say bad things. Sonny understands Nina's need to protect her relationship with Willow but Nina says there is a second part coming that will focus on his mental state. She says she tried to shut it down, but the reporter isn't going to let it go. Sonny blames Tracy but Nina says Tracy is trying to protect Gio. Sonny tells her how he told Gio to stay away from his business and how it hurt his feelings. He says he won't let Tracy get in his way Josslyn watches as Dalton and an unknown woman make eye contact at the pool. He leaves his backpack behind and the woman shows an interest. Josslyn gets Danny to wait on the woman to distract her. Anna tells Felicia the WSB is running an op and she knows nothing about it. Felicia reminds her that they don't need to tell her anything but Anna says it's professional courtesy to run something by her. She believes it has to do with Professor Dalton and Vaughn is a field agent. Anna is certain Vaughn is running surveillance on Dalton but Felicia says she needs to drop it. She says Anna needs to steer clear of Brennan and the agency and protect Emma. Later, Anna summons Dante to ask him for a favor regarding the WSB. Sonny runs into Lulu, who sympathizes with him regarding the negative media blitz against him. Lulu says Ezra and Drew are using Measure C to make Sonny look bad so he should sell the piers and take away their power. Sonny tells her to trust that he's finding a solution. Lulu checks in with Dante about the media blitz on Sonny. She believes this blitz will confuse Rocco even more. Lulu complains again about Brook Lynn but Dante thinks it was an honest mistake. Dante blames himself for not telling Rocco before now and defends Brook Lynn. Lulu says he's giving her a pass because she's Gio's mom but he believes Brook Lynn deserves a little grace. Dante says they all made mistakes and need to move on. He says they are both part of his family but Lulu says she's not going to compromise. Liesl's back in town and meeting Rocco and is happy he wants her version of the truth. Liesl says Britt was a brilliant mess who loved to self sabotage. Rocco says he's heard Britt was not a good person and Liesl says she was also strong. Rocco says he spoke with Jason who had a good opinion of Britt. Liesl says for the first seven months of his life, Britt was his mother. She's thankful Rocco reached out, saying she misses Britt and it's good to talk about her daughter. Liesl says she'll be in town for a bit and he hopes they can meet and talk some more. Liesl pays a surprised Nina a visit who's thrilled to see her. Liesl says she knows Nina's life is in shambles and is here to help clean up the mess. 'General Hospital' says goodbye to Sasha actress Sofia Mattsson: 'You'll always have a home to come back to'
General Hospital is bidding adieu to Sasha Gilmore. After seven years on the ABC soap, Sofia Mattson departed GH in Friday's episode of the show. The ep saw Sasha reunite with her dad, Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) for the second time this week, following Rogers' real-life announcement that he has been diagnosed with cancer. Sasha ultimately decided to leave Port Charles to spend time with her parents and her newborn daughter, Daisy, who was being threatened back home. Jason (Steve Burton), who escorted Sasha out of Port Charles, wished her goodbye — in such a way that leaves the door open for her return. "You'll always have a home to come back to," he said. A representative for the show explained the actress' exit to TV Insider on Friday — and noted that Mattsson's departure may not be permanent. "There was a good time in the storyline for Sofia to leave to pursue other opportunities in film and TV," they shared. "But she is open for a return in the future." Mattson described her final day on set in an interview with TV Insider. "It was emotional for sure," she said. "Cleaning out my room and knowing that I wouldn't see all my friends there like usual every other day felt sad. But everyone was so supportive and excited for me." The actress said departing the show feels "bittersweet," and she looks forward to the new opportunities ahead. "I've had such a great time, but I'm also excited for a new chapter and to continue my acting journey in new projects," she said. Mattson also said she'd consider returning to soap acting if the right opportunity arose. "I'd have to see what the role was, but I'm definitely not opposed to coming back to the soap world," she said. "I think being on a soap is one of the best jobs you can have as an actress."Mattson first joined GH in September 2018, and went on to appear in over 500 episodes of the show. Her sister, actress Helena Mattsson, stepped in to play Sasha in her absence for two episodes in February 2022. Outside of General Hospital, Mattson has appeared in episodes of NCIS, Two and a Half Men, and StartUp. She has also appeared in movies like Becoming Bond, Jurassic City, and Adrenochrome.
