K-9 Kash locates possible narcotics during traffic stop

BENTON TOWNSHIP – A traffic stop and the use of a K-9 led to felony charges for possession of controlled substances on Sunday. 'That was K-9 Kash. He made positive identification of narcotics in the vehicle,' Ottawa County Sheriff Stephen Levorchick said. The traffic stop was conducted on May 25 in the area of Ohio 2, near West Krause Road in Benton Township. The deputy was patrolling in the area and observed a traffic violation. The report noted that after observing 'unusual behavior' from Stephanie Vasquez, 33, Newark, New Jersey, and Tatiana Arce-Rodrigues, 23, Plainfield, New Jersey, the dog was called in to assist with the search. After a positive search identification by K-9 Kash, several substances were found, suspected to be narcotics. 'They will have to be analyzed before we can say for sure what they are,' Levorchick said. 'They will go to the state crime lab for analysis to positively identify what they are, but we do suspect several different drugs. It could absolutely mean numerous indictments.' The women are both charged with possession of controlled substances and are housed at the Ottawa County Detention Facility. The grand jury will determine the total number of felony charges. 'They are suspected to have cocaine, methamphetamine and a lot of different pills. It looks like they may have enough for felony indictments for distribution and sales,' Levorchick said. The investigation is ongoing. rlapointe@ 419-332-2674 This article originally appeared on Port Clinton News Herald: K-9 Kash in possible narcotics find during traffic stop
