Deion Sanders lifestyle changes at Colorado after surgery: 'Can I make it through a game?'
Colorado football coach Deion Sanders has been forced to learn a new way of living after having his bladder removed in May. That includes certain issues involving his job: 'Can I make it through a game?' Sanders asked in a podcast with former Dallas Cowboys teammate Michael Irvin posted Monday, July 28. While he said he never considered retiring from coaching, Sanders, 57, did think about the ways he'd need to work through his new health situation, which includes incontinence and a smaller, newly constructed bladder. 'I know I got halftime, but can I make it through a game?' Sanders said to Irvin. 'What if there's a long quarter? OK, so I start thinking I gotta get a Porta Potty for the sideline.' To get a better sense of what Sanders will face as a college football coach in his recovery from bladder cancer, USA TODAY Sports discussed his situation with medical experts. These doctors are not treating the Pro Football Hall of Famer but described what life is like for a patient in his general situation. It won't be easy. 'You are heralded as one of the best athletes to play the game, and you peeing on yourself, man,' Sanders said in the podcast. But there also is reason to believe he won't be noticeably different on the sideline when Colorado opens the season against Georgia Tech Aug. 29. STEPPING UP: Colorado coach embraces cancer awareness fight TIMELINE: A look at the recent health issues of Deion Sanders Deion Sanders has a neobladder: What that means After Sanders' cancerous bladder was removed in surgery, a new one was made for him from his small intestine. This is called a neobladder. It's different from having a catheter emptying urine into an external bag, though patients with new neobladders do use catheters and bags while the neobladder heals, as Sanders did. A neobladder 'has the advantage of not requiring an external appliance, as patients urinate through their native urethra,' said Solomon Woldu, associate professor of urology at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Patients with neobladders still cannot urinate in a 'normal' way, Woldu said. 'Instead patients have to learn to empty their neobladder by using abdominal muscles to generate sufficient pressure on the neobladder to push the urine out. Some patients will not be able to this efficiently and need to catheterize.' Sanders talked about his with Irvin. 'You have to push through your stomach and force the pee out,' Sanders said. 'Like you can't just pee, and when you feel like you gotta go pee, you need to pee or you gonna start leaking.' What about portable toilets on the sideline? Sanders said that with a sense of humor, but it speaks the reality of his situation, specifically his loss of control over urination. One way he can deal with this situation is to wear Depend underwear for incontinence to absorb any leaking. Sanders even has a partnership with Depend and hopes to remove any shame of using it by raising awareness of it. In the meantime, he's got newly installed plumbing that doesn't have the same capacity. 'You make the neobladder, and it's usually the size of a grapefruit,' said Adam Kibel, the urology department chair at Mass General Brigham in Massachusetts. 'Your (normal) bladder when it's filled is about 2-3 times the size of that. Over time it stretches it out, but what happens is it doesn't hold that much urine. So it reaches capacity very quickly.' Can Deion Sanders make it through a game? A college football game can last four hours, sometimes in warm conditions. He might need water. That's where the Depend garments come into play, as well as his halftime break and a possible portable toilet. 'Thank God for Depend,' Sanders said. Otherwise Sanders has worked on his overall physical stamina since surgery and might not be noticeably different on the sideline this season. He previously had to sit down during a game after leg surgeries to remove blood clots in 2023. 'If he's 3-6 months out, he should be in pretty good shape,' Kibel said. 'If he has incontinence, he can wear a garment.' Sanders is otherwise physically fit for someone his age and wants to use his situation to motivate others. 'If you're asking about the average person, I would say yeah, that's a big lift,' Kibel said. 'But my guess is he's going to do better than the average person.' Is Deion Sanders using a catheter? He did after his surgery, but it wasn't permanent. Sanders said before undergoing surgery he would have a catheter for about two weeks, according to a video posted by his eldest son Deion Jr. July 28. Another video posted by his son July 29 showed him with a tube from his stomach area draining red liquid into a bag. The footage was from May. He also went fishing with his bags at his estate in Texas during his recovery there in May and June. 'I'm just ready to be disconnected from all this so I can resume the normalcy of life,' Sanders said in the video. Recent videos show him walking around and functioning without being attached to a bag. 'He probably had a catheter in to allow the bladder to drain while it healed up, because you don't want it filling and stressing the suture line by having it increase in size and decrease in size,' Kibel said. Has Deion Sanders beaten cancer? Yes, according to his doctor, Janet Kukreja. He could have chosen to keep his bladder and treat it with chemotherapy. But that risked having the cancer spread. He chose to have it removed instead, eliminating the malignant tumor that had been discovered in a routine checkup and CT scan earlier this year. Sanders told Irvin his new bladder is 'gonna get a little better' but also said, 'This ain't gonna change.' Sleeping is a different challenge, he said, which includes putting towels down for any leaking. 'The actual surgery itself is pretty big surgery,' Kibel said. 'It's not a part of your body that's meant to be removed.' Cancer forced the issue. 'When we hear that word, it's normally a life sentence attached to it,' Sanders said. 'But not this time.' Shocking truth behind Dubai's 'Porta Potty' parties where women are abused and degraded
WARNING: DISTRESSING CONTENT Fears are growing over sick Dubai 'Porta Potty' parties, where young women are lured in and forced to do the unthinkable. For many, Dubai is seen as a luxury playground consisting of gleaming skyscrapers, designer labels and influencers snapping selfies. However, behind the glamour lies a murky underworld, where women are lured to so-called ' Porta Potty parties '. It comes as a young model who was feared to have fallen victim to one of these vile parties has broken her silence from her hospital bed, reports the Mirror. Maria Kovalchuk, 20, was found dumped at the side of a road in Dubai with a broken spine and shattered limbs. The Ukrainian influencer, now recovering in Norway, has denied that citizens of the United Arab Emirates were to blame, but instead claims she was attacked by a group of 'rich Russian kids' after a hotel party turned violent. However, Maria's story has shed light on fears over grim ' Porta Potty parties ', where glamorous young female tourists are targeted in foul and demeaning ways. Young women - often glamorous tourists or aspiring influencers - are allegedly invited to these parties and promised luxury yachts, cash, and 5-star hotel stays. In reality, the truth is far more disturbing and could well land unfortunate guests in grave danger. Held aboard a luxury yacht as well as inside hotel rooms, Porta Potty parties are allegedly orchestrated by wealthy men, and centre around acts of degrading sexual humiliation, often involving bodily fluids. Those targeted are left with physical and psychological scars. Adult content creator Kay Manuel, from Australia's Gold Coast, previously told 'The promoters play it down. Saying, you'll just party, have a great time. Then get showered with gifts. In reality, you'll be expected to do unthinkable things.' According to Kay, another Australian woman known to her was hospitalised with devastating injuries after accepting an invitation from Dubai jewellery tycoons She continued: 'She had to get reconstructive surgery. She came back very emotionally scarred. It's not something that you can come back from and go 'oh well'. It's burned on your brain forever.' According to Kay, young influencers struggling with debt or brand deals are prime targets. She explained: 'They prefer to target Instagram models. They're less experienced than escorts.' Women caught up in these disturbing gatherings could also land in trouble with the law in the strict Gulf state, even if they're victims. Harrowingly, victims also run the risk of getting into serious difficulties with the law, in a country where sex workers can face six months behind bars. Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai, previously warned the Mirror that women involved in Porta Potty parties - even if they haven't consented - could be looking at charges of adultery or indecency, especially if such acts were carried out in the presence of married men. Ms Stirling said: " Sex outside marriage has been legalised in Dubai, but organisers have exploited this. Women think they're attending a private party - instead, they're thrown into horrific, dangerous situations with real legal risk." If you've been the victim of sexual assault, you can access help and resources via or by calling the national telephone helpline on 0808 802 9999

'Porta Potty party' model heard 4 chilling words before being 'thrown off roof'
Maria Kovalchuk, 20, claimed the skin on her scalp was practically torn off during the attack by several men, who she said had "hinted" they wanted to have sex with her A Ukrainian model left for dead following a "Porta Potty party" in Dubai has revealed her attackers said "you belong to us" during the near-death ordeal. Maria Kovalchuk, 20, flew to Dubai earlier this year in a bid to advance her modelling career before she claimed to have met with the rich kids of Russian and Ukrainian businessmen in March. Just hours later, she would be found by the roadside with horrific injuries, including a broken spine and limbs after she was found to have "fallen from a height." After reports of the horrific injuries Maria sustained, there were fears she was kidnapped into "sexual slavery" and that she was taken to a notorious Porta Potty party. The parties are rumoured to involve wealthy men who reportedly pay large sums of money to abuse and degrade attractive young women, including those with social media profiles. Speaking in Norway, where her mother lives, the model claimed she met a 19-year-old man who lives with his dad in Dubai at a karaoke event a the Five Jumeirah Village hoel. She told Russian outlet Ostorozhno, Novosti: "[He] offered for her to stay in his room and claimed that his father could fly her to Thailand on a private jet." Maria admitted she would go with the man and his friends, hoping it could lead to a free flight to Thailand. "They started teasing me, why I wasn't drinking," she told prominent Russian journalist Ksenia Sobchak at Shockingly, the group then uttered the four words stating Maria belonged to them: "Then some aggressive pushes like pushing in the shoulders began. After that, they started making fun of me like 'you belong to us, we will do whatever we want.' "I tried to take it as a joke, because it was really weird. They started behaving inappropriately, smashing bottles on the floor. That is, the entire floor was strewn with broken glass, that is, it was impossible to walk there. "Then they started intimidating me, smashing glass. After that, they took my personal belongings, which included my passport. And one of the girls….put on my things and just left in them, although before that I asked her not to do this, [and] to leave my things. That is, no one heard me, and she just left the hotel in my dress." The men then "hinted" they wanted sex with her, with Maria adding: "I did not reciprocate, and this aggression was also heating them up." Maria tried to flee but she was "dragged back into the room." The report added: "When they stepped out onto the balcony, she escaped and hid at a nearby construction site." Then the men, who were "out of their minds" by this point, allegedly found her at the construction site and "beat her." "They practically tore the skin off her scalp, then threw her off a ledge onto the road," said the account. "I ran away. Then, already on the street, when I was, I didn't see them anymore, but I knew they were coming," said Maria. "I ran to the nearest building, just scared, and ran in, hid there. It was just an unfinished building, open." Maria's mother, Anna, said her daughter's medical treatment was paid for by the Dubai authorities. She continued: "I don't know how much they paid - the sum was colossal, millions." There now appears no charges will be brought against the men. The next day the case was closed, they were released. And the case was closed," said Maria's mother. "The [Dubai] police investigation indicated that Maria said that she was running away from sexual violence and then went to protect her honour, her dignity, decided to commit suicide," she said. The mother claimed the statement was "falsified", adding that Maria wasn't trying to take her own life and saying she was not intoxicated. Medical tests also showed she had no alcohol in her blood, said her mother.

'Porta Potty party' rich teen at centre of model's horrific Dubai experience
Maria Kovalchuk has told what happened in the build up to an attack in Dubai where it was feared that she had been the victim of a notorious Porta Potty party A Ukrainian model who was brutally beaten and found on the roadside in Dubai with severe injuries claims that she was attacked after meeting a rich teen "who offered to let her stay in his room". Wheelchair-bound Maria Kovalchuk was discovered in March after going missing for more than a week with fears that she had been kidnapped into sexual slavery. Her injuries included a broken spine and she was in a coma after having "fallen from a height." Based on the testimony of some reported friends, there were fears that Maria had been a victim of a notorious Porta Potty party in Dubai - where rich men are reported to pay large sums to abuse and degrade attractive young women, including those with social media profiles. The 20-year-old, who nearly lost her life, has spoken for the first time since the incident from Norway where her mother lives and she is now based to continue her recover. Speaking out, she denied that citizens of the United Arab Emirates were behind her torture. The model, who has a prominent scar on her forehead after undergoing multiple surgeries, instead, pointed the finger at "rich Russian kids" who she alleges abused her after a party in a hotel. Russian news outlet Ostorozhno, Novosti, which spoke to Maria, claimed she met a young man - whom she had previously seen at a karaoke bar - in the lobby of the Five Jumeirah Village hotel. She had been in Dubai to get content for her job as a model when she overslept and missed her onward flight to Thailand. The 19-year-old man she met lived with his father in Dubai. The report said: "She told him her air ticket had gone to waste and she had to check out of her hotel. "[He] offered for her to stay in his room and claimed that his father could fly her to Thailand on a private jet." Maria then claimed that there was a party with the children of wealthy Russian and Ukrainian businessmen. She admitted she agreed to go with the man and his friends - hoping it would lead to a free flight to Thailand, but the atmosphere turned sour. "They started teasing me, why I wasn't drinking," she told prominent Russian journalist Ksenia Sobchak at "Then some aggressive pushes like pushing in the shoulders began. And one of the girls….put on my things and just left in them, although before that I asked her not to do this, [and] to leave my things. That is, no one heard me, and she just left the hotel in my dress." This woman is now out of contact. The men "hinted" they wanted sex, she said, adding: "I did not reciprocate, and this aggression was also heating them up." The report claimed that "amid the violence", Maria tried to flee "but the young men "dragged her back into the room." It added: "When they stepped out onto the balcony, she escaped and hid at a nearby construction site." Then the men, who were "out of their minds" by this point, allegedly found her at the construction site and "beat her". "They practically tore the skin off her scalp, then threw her off a ledge onto the road," said the account. Maria explained: "I ran away. Then, already on the street, when I was, I didn't see them anymore, but I knew they were coming. I ran to the nearest building, just scared, and ran in, hid there. It was just an unfinished building, open." Maria doesn't remember the violence itself that led to her injuries, and the CCTV footage has since been erased, she said. "Three months have passed - the police waited until the cameras were automatically wiped [after this period]. So now there's no evidence," said Maria. "Most likely, there was a blow to the head, I suppose. The next scene [that] I remember is me asking for help from a passing car, which had already stopped and called an ambulance and the police." She had fled wearing only a hotel robe. She said: "I think that maybe I was thrown. Or it was a beating. One of two options, the injuries looked like either a beating or a fall." The men accused by Maria were both detained by police in Dubai but only for one day, said the report. It added: "They now claim in their testimonies that they tried to find and help Maria and that she had asked to come to the party herself." There appear to be no charges against them. "The next day the case was closed, they were released. Maria claimed that her expensive medical treatment was paid for by the Dubai authorities which the Russian outlet claimed was in return for not speaking negatively about the country. On her recovery from injury she added: "I mostly use a wheelchair and crutches. I still have a leg fracture that's healing. I'm learning to walk with crutches again, but for now, the wheelchair is my main means of moving around."
