The stunning Scottish coastal walk near 'best fish and chips in the UK'

With the end of summer in sight, it is more important than ever to take advantage of every good bit of good weather we get. Scotland's coastline is spectacular rain or shine, but nothing beats a sunny day by the sea. To help you choose a good hike in Scotland this August, the Daily Record is back with another Walk of the Week. There are countless picturesque coastal spots around the country, but this time we are heading to Moray. The Portknockie Cliffs Path is a scenic walk near the coastal village of Portknockie on the Moray Firth. It is famed for its breathtaking sea views and one-of-a-kind geological features. From the village, the route takes you down to the gorgeous shoreline. Along the way, you will spot various rugged rock formations that make for a perfect backdrop for some photos. The star of the show along the walk is undoubtedly Bow Fiddle Rock. The natural sea arch got its name due to its resemblance to the tip of a fiddle bow. Bow Fiddle Rock is believed to date back to the Neoproterozoic Era, meaning it millions of years old. As well as being a popular tourist destination thanks to its age and unique shape, it is also a nesting place for sea birds such as herring gulls and great black-backed gulls. From Bow Fiddle Rock, it is a short walk back to Portknockie. While the entire village is worth exploring, your first stop should definitely be the Portknockie Fish and Chip Shop. The chippy, which is located beside the village's scenic harbour, serves up a varied menu that includes everything from classic fish and chips to its famous crunchy fried pop chicken. Locals and tourists alike have raved about the business, with one recent visitor even proclaiming the takeaway the "best in the UK". Read on for a few images showing why the Portknockie Cliffs Path is a must-visit this August. For more travel inspiration, check out some of our recent Walks of the Week below:
