Is there a song of the summer yet? The internet says no

We asked kids and they were stumped Many on the internet are wondering: where is the song of the summer for 2025? In the three weeks since summer officially started, there hasn't been one track that feels like the theme song to the season. According to many articles, posts and comments on social media platforms like X (formerly known as Twitter), TikTok and Reddit, we are in a 'summer slump' for music. Often, the song of the summer feels a lot more obvious. Last year, the tracks that topped 2024's songs of the summer lists — like Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter, Not Like Us by Kendrick Lamar, or I Had Some Help by Post Malone feat. Morgan Wallen — were everywhere. This year, we have … *crickets.* Music fans are taking to social media in search of the song of the summer. Many are wondering what the song will be. (Image credit: @imnotpopbase and @JanellePierzina/X) CBC Kids News took to the streets of Toronto, Ontario, to ask kids what they think the song of the summer has been. Many had trouble naming one. In fact, many of them picked older songs from previous years. Click play to hear which songs kids are rocking with this summer ⬇️⬇️⬇️ How is the song of the summer decided? There are a few different measures for determining the song of the summer. It's often a matter of personal opinion and preference — it's that one song you see and hear everywhere you go, from the radio to your social feeds to streaming playlists. But there are also more official ways to track it. Billboard, an American music publication, typically crowns its song of the summer every September. Billboard tracks how songs perform on its Hot 100 chart between late May and early September. The chart is cumulative, meaning it adds up all the radio plays, streams and sales from every week to keep a running total. As of mid-July, Alex Warren's song Ordinary is in the top spot, with songs by Drake and Morgan Wallen also climbing the charts. Make your pick Here are the top ten songs on Billboard's Song of the Summer chart as of July 18. Do any of these songs sum up summer 2025 for you? Have more questions? Jelly Roll Celebrated His ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!' Hosting Gig By Chokeslamming Logan Paul Through His Desk

Jelly Roll made quite the impression during his debut as the guest host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday night (July 16). 'Do not adjust your TV, Jimmy did not join [Salvadoran street gang] MS-13,' Jelly said to open his monologue, which included a joke about his felonious past. 'Y'all know every guest gets on here and they say it's great to be here,' he added. 'But I want to talk to y'all speaking as a guy who has been to prison before, it really is great to be here.' The country star had jokes, quipping that if he blew the assignment and 'I really suck bad,' they should remember that his name is 'Post Malone,' a friendly dig at his pal with whom he just wrapped the Big Ass Stadium tour. In addition to giving the staff nicknames and taking a playful dig at the ESPY Awards taking place across town with his own 'Jelly Awards,' the 'Son of a Sinner' singer was mostly focused on one thing: his upcoming wrestling debut. 'SummerSlam's going to be a big moment for me,' he said. 'I faced my share of struggles in life y'all. I faced adversity, I overcame and I am going to have a moment that every American has dreamed and that is the moment of slapping Logan Paul in his f–king face!' The hype continued during Jelly Roll's chat with his wrestling partner Orton, when McIntyre and Paul interrupted his interview with the third-generation grappler and things went sideways after Jelly admitted he was a bit worried about the showdown. Uninvited guest McIntyre initially praised Jelly Roll for 'working his arse off' and losing 200 pounds, calling him an 'inspiration to trailer trash all across the world.' Orton defended his partner, landing a series of blows on McIntyre as they punched their way off stage and Paul swaggered out to a chorus of boos, insulting 'Mr. Dummy Roll' and telling him to stay in his lane. Jelly wasn't having it. After Paul smacked him in the face and called him a 'greasy redneck prison rat,' Jelly grabbed Paul and chokeslammed him through the breakaway host desk. 'What up dog? You come in here messin' with me, son!' he yelled as Paul lay prone in a pile of splinters. Before things went pear-shaped, Orton had high praise for his tag team partner, lauding lifelong wrestling fanatic Jelly for his work ethic. 'I've never seen somebody work so hard to get into our ring, to step into our world… we're gonna tear it up!' The training showed in both Jelly's expert smack talk and smackdown, as well as his smooth, relaxed hosting abilities, including during a sweet show-opening interview with actor Jeremy Renner. Jelly and Paul first butted heads back on July 11 when the singer stepped into the ring during a Smackdown event — a year after making his WWE debut at SummerSlam 2024 — to sing his hit 'Liar' and get into it with Paul. After some digs about his checkered past from Paul and a surprise appearance by Orton, who defended Jelly, McIntyre blindsided Orton. The singer jumped to his friend's defense and pulled Paul back by the hair and shoved him aside, but not before Logan smashed up Jelly's musical equipment, trashing his guitars and drum set. The carefully calibrated confrontation, of course, set up their upcoming showdown at the Aug. 2-3 SummerSlam at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Aitch Announces Australian Tour Dates For January 2026

Aitch has announced his return to Australia, with four headlining shows booked in for the first week of 2026. The Mancunian rapper's January dates come as part of his 4 world tour, so named after his second studio album that was released last month, and see him back in the country for the first time in nearly three years. The full list of tour dates, as well as ticketing information, can be found below. After having to inevitably postpone (and later cancel) his debut Australian tour in 2020, Aitch first visited Australia over the 2022/23 new-year period. While in Australia, he performed on the line-up for the Wildlands, Beyond The Valley and Field Day festivals. He then returned in 2023 to feature on that year's Spilt Milk line-up alongside Post Malone, Dom Dolla, Latto, MAY-A and Jessie Murph. Since Aitch was last in Australia, he has continued to be prolific in both single releases and features on other artist's songs. These include the singles 'Raving In The Studio', a collaboration with Bou, and 'A Guy Called?' – both of which cracked the top 40 of the UK Singles Chart earlier in 2025. His features, meanwhile, have included guest spots on AJ Tracey's 'Friday Player' (alongside Headie One), Potter Payper's 'DND' and the remix of YouTuber Yung Philly's track 'Grey' from last year. Aitch – 'Bounce' 4 was released in June 2025, almost three years on from his 2022 debut Close To Home. It debuted at number seven on the UK Albums Chart upon release, while simultaneously topping the UK Independent Albums Chart and coming in at number two on the UK R&B Albums Chart. The album also saw success in Scotland, debuting at number five on the Scottish Album Charts. The album's release was preceded by five singles: 'Straight Rhymez 2', 'Bounce', 'Luv?' (featuring Anne-Marie), 'Till L4te' (featuring Pozer) and 'Col4 Body' (with Tiggs The Author). 4 also features guest verses from AJ Tracey, Chimpo, Tamera, Kenzo Str8Drop and Avelino, plus contributions from Headie One and Nafe Smallz on the bonus tracks on the deluxe edition of the album. For the Second Year Running, Bigo Live Named Official Streaming Partner of the Esports World Cup 2025

Bigo Live, the global livestreaming platform, is proud to return as the official streaming partner of the Esports World Cup (EWC) 2025, reaffirming its commitment to the MENA region's vibrant esports scene. For the first time, Bigo Live will also extend its reach to Uzbekistan, marking a key step in broadening its regional footprint. This milestone comes at a pivotal moment for the region, as Saudi Arabia ramps up investment in gaming and esports under its Vision 2030 strategy, which seeks to generate over USD 13 billion in economic value and position the Kingdom as a global epicentre for interactive entertainment. Across MENA, the esports market is witnessing unprecedented growth, driven by a youthful population and rising smartphone penetration. Hosted in Riyadh from July 8 to August 24, the Esports World Cup features over 20 of the most popular competitive gaming titles worldwide. As the official streaming partner, Bigo Live is authorized to broadcast seven marquee titles, including Dota 2, Counter-Strike 2, League of Legends, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Free Fire, EA Sports FC 25, and PUBG Mobile. The event kicked off last Thursday with a star-studded opening ceremony, featuring performances by global artists and a highly anticipated guest appearance by Post Malone during the invitational segment. Last year's tournament attracted more than 6.9 million peak viewers globally, with even larger audiences expected in 2025. With over 500 million users across the world, Bigo Live has emerged as a leading platform for interactive content and gaming communities. During past esports tournaments, the platform achieved a total of 260 million impressions across both in-app and external channels, underscoring its growing role in delivering large-scale live events to diverse audiences. Bigo Live has been a launchpad for countless creators, and Restart from Egypt is a shining example. His commentary during the EWC 2024 Mobile Legends: Bang Bang women's tournament watch party on Bigo Live not only energized the community but also drew over 1,000 hours of total viewer watch time in one session. What began as a passion for gaming has grown into a career, with Bigo Live playing a key role in that journey. Now the manager of Team Ultra Legends, Restart reflects: 'Over five years on Bigo Live, I've grown tremendously—both as a gamer and a commentator. The platform gave me the space to evolve, compete, and eventually lead a professional team at EWC.' This year, Bigo Live is rolling out a dedicated two-month in-app campaign, offering fans across MENA a central hub for livestream schedules, tournament highlights, and curated content. The platform's localized coverage delivered through livestream rooms like MENA Gaming Community, MENA Gaming Esport, and MLBBMENA Esports will bring the action closer to home for regional audiences. 'We're proud to continue our partnership with the Esports World Cup, a collaboration that goes beyond streaming and reflects our shared commitment to shaping the future of esports and interactive entertainment,' said Ian Goh, Director for the MENA Region at BIGO Technology. 'As gaming and livestreaming converge, we see enormous potential to empower creators, connect global audiences, and contribute to the region's emergence as a world-class hub for digital innovation. The momentum building in MENA and Central Asia is inspiring, and we're excited for Bigo Live to play a meaningful role in this transformation.' To further engage audiences, Bigo Live will launch EWC-themed giveaways, including custom avatar frames, online gifts, and entrance effects. A hand-picked lineup of top creators from across MENA will also bring the tournament to life through live content, showcasing the creativity and passion of regional gaming communities. With global esports viewership projected to surpass 700 million viewers by 2026, this collaboration underscores a shared belief in the transformative potential of gaming and livestreaming as catalysts for digital innovation. As esports solidifies its position as one of the fastest-growing sectors in global entertainment, the partnership between Bigo Live and the Esports World Cup extends beyond streaming. Together, they are redefining how fans engage with global tournaments, empowering creators, and advancing the gaming and livestreaming landscape across MENA, Central Asia, and beyond.

Competitive gaming is reaching new heights

The Esports World Cup (EWC) is back—and bigger than ever. This year, a slice of a record-breaking $70m prize pool is at stake for the players and clubs that rise to the top. Having kicked off in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on July 7, more than 2,000 players and 200 clubs have gathered for this year's edition of the world's biggest multi-game esports championships, competing across 25 tournaments and 24 games until the finale on August 24. Artist Post Malone—who has deep connections with the community, with music and event collaborations in a variety of games—headlined the opening ceremony on July 10. 'Esports is becoming a global cultural force, where music, storytelling, and competition converge to create moments that are not just seen, but felt,' said Mike McCabe, chief operating officer of the Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF), which launched EWC Music this year to create an original music identity for the competition. It's gaming and esports fused with culture and entertainment on a global scale, culminating in the crowning of the single best club in the world across all these disciplines. Ralf Reichert, CEO, Esports World Cup Foundation As global esports revenues are projected to hit $4.8bn in 2025, Saudi Arabia is rapidly emerging as a center for this booming industry. Home to 23.5m gamers—approximately 67% of the population—the Kingdom is capitalizing on its state-of-the-art infrastructure, youthful population, and world-class tournaments to position itself as a global hub for esports excellence. Life-changing prizes for the world's best gamers At the heart of this year's competition is the EWC Club Championship, which pits the world's top esports clubs against one another as they fight to win part of the $27m prize pool on offer. In a cumulative points-based system, participating clubs compete across multiple games throughout the world cup. The winning club—which will take home a grand prize of $7m—will be crowned based on consistent high performance across titles. A first in the competitive esports world, this structure requires clubs to be strategic in their approach to the competition as a whole, managing rosters and resources across various games to demonstrate organizational strength. The remaining $43m from the total prize pool will be divided between winners of each game championship, the Most Valuable Player Awards, and qualifiers on the Road to EWC, where teams and players compete for the remaining tournament spots through eligible events hosted by partnered publishers and organizers. This is all part of the EWCF's mission to support the gaming industry into the future. 'The record-breaking $70m prize pool, along with our commitment to the Club Partner Program and our multi-year publisher agreements, are aligned with a long-term vision rather than short-term impact,' said Ralf Reichert, CEO of the EWCF. 'It's not just to have more money at stake, but to create opportunities for everyone at every level of the ecosystem and strengthen the industry for generations to come.' This year, the EWCF's Club Partner Program plans to invest $20m into participating clubs—selected for their competitive performance, social media presence, and audience engagement—to activate their brands and grow their fanbases, with the aim of supporting the growth of esports around the world. 'The EWCF Club Partner Program is a cornerstone of our mission to build a sustainable future for esports clubs worldwide while creating opportunities for organizations from some of the world's fastest-growing markets. Faisal bin Homran, chief product officer, Esports World Cup Foundation This year's winners will also reap the rewards of the EWCF's newly launched Heroes Club, a year-long VIP program for EWC champions. The program includes premium hospitality at global sports and entertainment events such as the Super Bowl, Formula 1, and UEFA Champions League Finals, travel benefits with partnered brands, and early access to new games. 'It's about going beyond victory, giving EWC champions the tools to grow their profiles, unlocking a new world full of opportunities and extending their impact beyond the main stage,' explained Faisal bin Homran, Chief Product Officer, Esports World Cup Foundation. 'By investing in players at every stage of their journey, we are reinforcing the role of esports as a global sport and a viable career path for generations to come. Faisal bin Homran, chief product officer, Esports World Cup Foundation A major player in the future of esports The esports industry is on a meteoric rise, experiencing unprecedented growth in both competitor and viewership numbers alongside big-ticket sponsorship opportunities. In Saudi Arabia, where gaming has evolved beyond a hobby into a thriving industry, the gaming and esports market is projected to generate $13.3bn by 2030. The Kingdom has already invested over $38bn into the sector, and now aims to create 39,000 local jobs in areas like game development and event management. With over 500m online viewers and 2.6m visitors to Riyadh's Boulevard City in 2024, the inaugural competition was just the beginning. As the EWC scales new heights this year, Saudi Arabia is rapidly positioning itself as a global esports powerhouse, poised to shape the future of gaming for generations to come.
