North-East Line, Sengkang-Punggol LRT resume train services after power fault

Train services on the North-East Line and the Sengkang-Punggol LRT are back to normal. Power has been safely restored to the affected depot substation, following a power fault that disrupted services for several hours on Tuesday. Authorities said a fault in the switchboards feeding power to the system triggered a surge in the first unit, which damaged it and shut down the second backup unit. This cut off the main power supply from Sengkang Depot. Charlotte Lim reports.

SBS Transit CEO apologises for train disruptions on North East Line and Sengkang-Punggol LRT

SINGAPORE: Train services on the North East Line have resumed, about three hours after a power fault was reported late Tuesday morning (Aug 12). The issue started at about 11am, resulting in a halt to MRT services at 11 stations between Farrer Park and Punggol Coast MRT stations on the North East Line. The line is connected to the Sengkang-Punggol LRT, which was also affected. "We apologise to all affected commuters for the inconvenience caused," said Mr Jeffrey Sim, group CEO of transport opertor SBS Transit. "We take this matter very seriously and are looking into the cause of the incident."

North East Line train service disrupted due to power fault

SINGAPORE: Train service was disrupted on the North East Line between Farrer Park and Punggol Coast MRT stations on Tuesday (Aug 12) due to a power fault, transport operator SBS Transit said. Free bus services and bus bridging services are available between Punggol Coast station and Dhoby Ghaut stations, it added. When CNA was at Boon Keng Station at about 11.20am, passengers were told by a security guard on ground level that there were no trains running at the moment. The security guard also stopped people from entering the station. But there were no announcements made and passengers were waiting at the platform. There was also a stationary train on the side headed towards Punggol Coast, and it had been there for about five minutes.
