MP Amar Singh raises alarm over cross-border terror, drug threats at Denmark diaspora meet

Copenhagen [Denmark], May 31 (ANI): Congress MP Amar Singh, part of the all-party delegation, addressed the Indian diaspora in Copenhagen, raising concerns over Pakistan's involvement in cross-border terrorism and drug trafficking. He urged the Indian community to remain united in confronting such external threats. At the same event, India's Ambassador to Denmark, Manish Prabhat, responded to anti-India slogans raised by a small group outside the venue hosting the Indian parliamentary delegation. Hitting out at the protestors outside the venue, Ambassador Prabhat said, 'This community is unlike the community, a representation of which you saw outside on the street. And we know that how much amount they have been paid to put their duty here.' He further praised the Indian diaspora in Denmark, highlighting their positive contributions and cultural integration. Prabhat said, 'I would like to inform you that the Indian diaspora in Denmark is a thriving community. It has a strength of about 21,000 people now and the Danish society admires them. Because they are known for their hard work, their sincerity, their talent, their skills, their contribution to the Danish economy, their willingness to integrate, their respect for Danish culture and the fact that the Indian community is regarded as a vibrant community bringing the diverse cultures of India in all its colors and is known for promoting peace.' Also speaking at the gathering, Congress MP Dr Amar Singh voiced serious concerns over cross-border drug and weapon smuggling in across the Punjab border. 'In Punjab, especially after 1971, what happened was that opium was used to be sent from Pakistan. Punjab is the centre in North India for transporting drugs to Delhi and other parts of India. And I'm an eyewitness to those things. As a child, as a school student, then college student, and now for the last eight to ten years, again, as an eyewitness, that drugs and weapons are coming through drones,' he said. Singh further noted that several drones carrying narcotics and arms have been recovered from Punjab's border villages in recent years. Referring to past terror attacks in India, he said, 'When we know the reality that our neighbouring country, Pakistan, is doing this thing, how can we be quiet on this issue? And this issue has to be shared, and we all want to share with the international community that the issue of terrorism is now very serious. And in India, you will all remember Mumbai and then Pulwama, Uri, Pathankot and now Pahalgam. We all have to be united, oppose it. Terrorism is bad. Drugs are bad, weapons are bad, it damages the society.' Earlier, the Group 2 all-party delegation led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ravi Shankar Prasad attended the luncheon interaction with former Danish parliamentarians in Copenhagen. The event, hosted by the Indian Ambassador, provided a platform for discussion and exchange of ideas. The delegation's engagement with former MPs, including Freddy Svane, former ambassador of Denmark to India, Manu Sareen, former MP and author Helle Degn, vice president of the Mandela Center, and Niels Ahlmann-Ohlsen, former MP and currently CEO of Strategic Alliance International ApS, aimed to foster stronger ties between India and Denmark. Apart from Ravi Shankar Prasad, other members of the Indian delegation included BJP MP Daggubati Purandeswari, Shiv Sena-UBT MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, Congress MPs Ghulam Ali Khatana and Amar Singh, and Ambassador Pankaj Saran. Wanted JJMP chief, aide gunned down in Latehar

Daltonganj: Police gunned down Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) chief Pappu Lohra and the outfit's second-in-command Prabhat Ganjhu in a gunfight in Ichabar locality under the Latehar police station on Saturday morning. JJMP is a Naxalite group which broke away from the Maoists. Pappu and Prabhat were both residents of Latehar district. Kumar Gaurav, Latehar SP, said Lohra and Ganjhu were killed in a retaliatory firing. "Pappu carried a reward of Rs 10 lakh while Ganjhu carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh," he said. Ashish Kumar, another injured JJMP operative, was found in the bushes in Ichabar and was being treated in police custody. Awadh Singh, a cop from the district police, sustained injuries to his shoulder and was referred to a Ranchi hospital where he was said to be stable. In the operation, which was conducted by the district police, an Insas rifle, 20 empty cartridges, two magazine pouches, a motorcycle, three backpacks, a shoulder bag and a tarpaulin sheet were recovered. Police said that a squad, led by Pappu, had gathered at Ichabar to attack local contractors and builders when they were surrounded. "Pappu was asked to surrender but he did not and was killed. He had three dozen criminal cases in different police stations. The death of Pappu and Prabhat is an irreparable loss to the outfit," a source said. "He was a former Maoist and had good tactical skills. The way he was neutralised shows that ultras have very little time and space left for themselves. With Pappu's death, the outfit virtually collapsed," Sunil Bhaskar, IG Palamu, said. Insiders said Pappu had carried a larger-than-life image of himself. "He thought of himself as invincible but trusted no one. He loved "jalebis" and when his men would arrange the sweet for him, Pappu was the last one to eat as he suspected he could be poisoned," a source close to the outfit requesting anonymity said.

In a first, J&K special forces train in jungle warfare after Pahalgam attack

In a first-of-its-kind move, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has begun training its Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel in jungle warfare, a step aimed at combating increasingly dangerous and terrain-savvy terrorists operating in the Union Territory's mountainous in the 1990s, the SOG is a specialised wing of the Jammu & Kashmir jungle warfare training decision follows the dastardly attack in Pahalgam's Baisaran Valley on April 22, where terrorists used dense forest cover to launch a terror attack, killing 26 people. The incident forced security forces to re-evaluate their preparedness for such guerrilla According to top officials, the lack of actionable intelligence and the challenging terrain were key takeaways from the attack, prompting the need for specialised jungle warfare charge of this shift is DGP Nalin Prabhat, a 1992 batch IPS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, who assumed office in October 2023. Known for his past role as commander of the elite anti-Naxal Greyhounds, Prabhat has directed that SOG units undergo intensive training in jungle and high-altitude warfare."The more you sweat in training, the less you bleed in battle," a senior officer said, highlighting the seriousness of the ongoing tactical TRAININGSOG units are being trained at multiple locations. Some batches have already undergone intensive training, while others are being prepared for advanced modules. Training partnerships include sessions with Greyhounds in Telangana and at the Jungle Warfare School. Regional training camps include the White Knight Corps base in Talwara and Corps Battle Schools (CBS) in these centres, SOG personnel, usually in teams of 30–50, are trained to move undetected, survive in hostile conditions for days, and navigate dense forests while tracking FOR TERRAIN MASTERYAfter the Pahalgam attack, SOG personnel launched a follow-up operation in Shopian's Keller Forest and neutralised three terrorists after hours of pursuit. The operation was hailed not just for eliminating threats, but for demonstrating improved terrain mastery and relentless pursuit under difficult jungle warfare is not just about combat. Intelligence, particularly HUMINT (human intelligence), is now at the core of SOG strategy. Officials say the absence of local intel in Pahalgam was a turning point. Since then, training has emphasized the cultivation of informant networks in remote regions - where trust can matter more than THREAT OF INFILTRATIONThere's growing concern about Pakistan-backed terrorists slipping through the Line of Control. Some of these operatives are reportedly ex-SSG or Para Commandos, like Pahalgam attacker Hashim Musa. A senior JKP official revealed that around 4,000 SOG personnel are actively involved in joint operations with the Army, and that jungle warfare skills will give them a tactical edge."While intelligence has long been JKP's strength, jungle warfare training is what will help us match the enemy's terrain advantage," said a former top police past two years have seen a rise in attacks in the Jammu division, particularly Poonch and Rajouri. In response, small SOG teams of 4–5 members have been regularly patrolling deep forests, occupying heights and setting up pickets to increase the likelihood of direct encounters. This proactive approach has helped reduce attacks in recent WARFARE ADAPTATIONWhen the battlefield moves from forest to village, SOG units shift tactics to Cordon and Search Operations (CASO). Operations in Shopian and Anantnag have focused on precision, crowd control and minimising civilian harm. Insights from decorated officers like Colonel Vikrant Prasher of 10 Para SF, experts in forest and high-altitude warfare, are now being incorporated into the SOG's evolving LIES AHEADFormer Army Chief Gen (Retd) VP Malik highlighted the importance of terrain familiarity and human intelligence. Commenting on Operation Sindoor, he said how a combined strategy of surveillance, military operations and diplomatic engagement - similar to India's response after Kargil - remains the annual Amarnath Yatra approaching in June-end, the need for heightened vigilance remains. As security forces anticipate fresh infiltration attempts, jungle warfare-trained SOG units will form a key part of the counter-terror strategy going Watch
