Mohali: Kabir's teaching a guiding light, says Kataria

Punjab governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Tuesday emphasised the enduring relevance of Bhagat Kabir's teachings in today's society, calling them a guiding light for humanity. He was speaking at a state-level seminar organised by the Bhagat Kabir Welfare Foundation at Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran, to mark the saint's birth anniversary. Kataria noted that although Bhagat Kabir, born in Varanasi, did not receive formal education, he attained spiritual wisdom through life experiences and the guidance of saints like Sant Ramanand and Sheikh Taqi. 'His couplets, grounded in truth, spirituality and social justice, continue to inspire generations,' the governor said. Highlighting Bhagat Kabir's pivotal role in the Bhakti movement, Kataria praised his advocacy of love, equality and harmony in an era marked by invasions, violence and social inequality. Amritsar North MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh termed Kabir a social reformer. Central University (Dharamshala) vice chancellor Kuldeep Agnihotri and foundation founder Pardeep Singh Happy were also present. Musical evening at Pracheen Kala Kendra Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh, organised a special musical evening to pay musical homage to Saint Kabir. Kabir vani was presented by young artistes from Delhi. Rajesh Negi, Ravi Pal, Ganesh Kumar, Yogesh Pal, Dinesh Kumar, Vipin Kumar and Gurbhej Singh from Delhi gave soulful performances during the evening. Guv highlights need for clean energy The summit brought together policymakers, clean energy experts, innovators and industry leaders from Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh to discuss strategies for accelerating the shift toward a cleaner, greener and more sustainable energy future. He felicitated over 20 government departments and private enterprises from Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh for their contributions in promoting renewable energy and clean technologies. The honoured organisations represented excellence in electric mobility, solar manufacturing, energy awareness, and institutional capacity building in green energy.

Vocalist Priyanka Thakur presented a captivating classical musical performance during the 307th monthly baithak programme organised by Pracheen Kala Kendra at its ML Koser Indoor Auditorium in Sector 35-B on Saturday. The programme started with Raag Malkauns, in which Priyanka presented Vilambit Khayal composition with lyrics 'Peer na jane balam'. She mesmerised the audience with her soulful singing style. After this, she presented Drut Khayal 'Balam nahi aaye' in Teen Taal, which further accelerated the pace of the programme. Making her performance more energetic, Priyanka presented Tappa Khayal 'Har har mahadev pati' in Ati Drut, which was well appreciated by the audience. After the classical performance, she gave a melodious rendition of Himachali folk song 'Kunju chanchalo', which was acknowledged with applause. She was well accompanied by Divyansh Thakur on tabla and Piyush Mishra on harmonium. Kendra secretary Sajal Kosar thanked the audience and artists, who were felicitated at the end of the programme.

Sanjeet Gangani, troupe present Kathak recital at Nritya Sangeet Mahotsav 2025 Kathak exponent Sanjeet Gangani presented a solo and group recital on May 6 at Nritya Sangeet Mahotsav 2025 , a three-day festival of Indian classical music and dance . The event was organised by the GKG Foundation in association with Pracheen Kala Kendra. A senior artiste of the Jaipur Gharana and disciple of Pandit Rajendra Gangani, he led the second day's proceedings with a solo performance marked by technique, control and interpretative depth. Gangani was joined by his troupe- Kritika Dutt, Khushboo Arora, Preeti Sheware, Rahul Parihar, Hitesh Parihar, Bhumika Chaudhary, Yashika Bisht, Yashika Sethi, Priyanka Bajaj whose coordinated movements reflected rigorous training and adherence to tradition. Shri Malhar Mahavir on tabla maintained rhythm with precision, Shri Shahnawaz Ali on sarangi added melodic layers, while Shri Vinod Gangani on harmonium and Shri Bhavani Devda as vocalist provided the musical framework.
