New bride, ex-MLA's grandson, doctor family on brink of new life — many from Rajasthan on board ill-fated Air India flight
Just before she boarded the fateful Ahmedabad-London Air India flight AI171 Thursday, Khushboo Rajpurohit got one last photo clicked with her father Madan Rajpurohit at the Ahmedabad airport. The two had travelled down to Ahmedabad from Rajasthan's Balotra district the night before and Khushboo was returning to London, where her husband of a few months awaited her return. But that was not to be. Khushboo, a 20-something woman who married a nurse in London in January 2025, was one of 11 victims of the crash from Rajasthan. Her father Madan had just reached Mehsana when he got news of the crash, officials said. Her photo went viral on social media soon after the incident. Apart from Khushboo, other victims from Rajasthan include Shubh Modi and his sister Shagun, both children of a marble businessman in Udaipur, Vardichand Menaria and Prakash Menaria, both cooks at a restaurant in London, and Abhinav Parihar, an artificial jewellery businessman from Bikaner and grandson of former Dungargarh MLA Krishna Ram Nai. They also include a doctor couple — Dr. Koni Vyas of Banswara and her husband Dr. Pradeep Joshi – and their three children Pradyut, Miraya and Nakul, officials said. While Parihar was going to visit his family settled in London for the first time in 10 years, the doctor couple and their children were on their way to start a new life in London, where Dr. Pradeep Joshi worked. Speaking to the media at the house of businessman Sanjeev Modi in Saheli Nagar, Udaipur District Collector Namit Mehta said: 'We have informed the state government. We are providing necessary assistance'. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma cancelled the plans to visit Banswara after the news of the accident. In a post on X, he said: 'The news of the Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat is extremely sad and worrying. I pray to God for the well-being and safety of all the passengers and crew members in this unfortunate incident.' Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot also tweeted after the incident. 'Received the news of the plane crash in Ahmedabad. This news is extremely sad and heartbreaking. I pray to God for the safety of all the passengers and staff,' his post said.
