CHENNAI: SKIPPER Pradosh Ranjan Paul's 73 and wicketkeepr G Ajitesh's (71 n.o) one-man show with tailenders has helped TNCA President's XI survive day one against a spirited Himachal Pradesh side in the All India Buchi Babu tournament at the Gojan college 'A' ground on Monday. Due to bad light, the day's quota of 90 overs could not be completed. Pradosh explained how his day went, both as a skipper and as a batter. ''Pleased with the way Ajitesh played under challenging conditions. Considering the conditions, I feel this is a good total for us," he told this daily. Pradosh felt that the team could have amassed more runs but credited the youngsters, as few of them are playing for the first time in this level. His contributions has a batter has been important for Tamil Nadu in recent memory. "I had to be watchful and slowly graft the ball. I did not try to play extravagant shots and just wanted to have a good ball sense and improve my timing,'' said Pradosh. He believes the bowling attack would give a good challenge to the HP batters.

Sai Kishore will miss the Buchi Babu tournament after hurting his hand while fielding during a club match. Tamil Nadu captain R Sai Kishore is set to miss the Buchi Babu tournament due to an injury. However, the left-arm spinner is optimistic about a timely recovery before the Duleep Trophy, which starts on August 28. According to reports, Kishore sustained a hand injury while stopping a drive from M Shahrukh Khan during his delivery follow-through in a first-division club game at the Guru Nanak college ground last Sunday in Chennai. The 28-year-old spin bowling all-rounder, part of the South Zone squad, will begin their campaign on September 4 at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. In 48 first-class matches for Tamil Nadu, he has taken 203 wickets at an average of 23.57, with best figures of 7/57, 13 five-wicket hauls, and one ten-fer. With the bat, he has contributed 816 runs at an average of 14.31, with three fifties. His highest score is 81. Batter Pradosh Ranjan Paul has been named captain of the TNCA President's XI in the Buchi Babu tournament, with C Andre Siddarth as the vice-captain. The Take Sports-All India Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament, organised by the TNCA, will be held from August 18 to September 9. The tournament, which was revived two years ago, featured 12 teams in the last two editions. This year, there will be 16 teams in the fray spread evenly across four groups. The format has also been changed from four-day to three-day fixtures in the league stage. Each team will play three three-day games with one day's rest in between contests. The first innings will be 90 overs per side, while the second innings will be 45 overs per side. The semifinals and final will be four-day games, with both innings having 90 overs per side. This year, all the matches will be played in Chennai. The games will be livestreamed on the TNCA YouTube channel. The prize money for the winner and runner-up will be ₹3,00,00 and ₹2,00,000 respectively. Hyderabad is the reigning champion and beat Chhattisgarh by 243 runs in the final last year in Dindigul. Tamil Nadu will have two teams in the tournament — TNCA President's XI, led by R. Sai Kishore, and TNCA XI, led by Pradosh Ranjan Paul.
