Tight security arrangements made for Amarnath yatra, pilgrims should visit in large numbers: J&K LG

Lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday urged devotees to visit in large numbers as foolproof security arrangements are in place for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra and urged the people to visit in large numbers. Sinha, accompanied by senior officers, performed the 'Pratham Puja', which marked the ceremonial beginning of the annual Amarnath Yatra. Sinha also took stock of the arrangements at the Shrine. 'I would request all the devotees of Baba Barfani to visit in large numbers for the yatra and pray to Mahadev for the progress of J&K and the nation. SASB and administration have improved the pilgrims' facilities,' he said, adding that security forces have made foolproof security arrangements. 'Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army, CRPF and other CAPFs have made foolproof security arrangements,' he said. The lieutenant governor lauded the contributions of people of J&K, civil society groups and all service providers. 'I have full faith that significant improvements to essential facilities and services will ensure this year's pilgrimage is memorable and spiritually fulfilling for all devotees. May Baba Amarnath ji keep showering his divine blessings on all of us,' Sinha said. This year, Amarnath Yatra will commence on July 3, simultaneously from both the routes – the Pahalgam track in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district-- and it will culminate on August 9 on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Earlier lieutenant governor conducted on-site inspection of Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board's Yatri Niwas at Baltal axis in Ganderbal. Sinha ascertained the progress of the work being carried out at the site and directed the officials for timely completion of the infrastructure projects being developed to enhance facilities for Amarnath Yatra pilgrims. At Domail, the lieutenant governor also interacted with the members of the taskforce and staff of BRO engaged in improving and maintaining the yatra track.

J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday (June 11, 2025) performed the Pratham Puja at the Amarnath shrine located in south Kashmir's Pahalgam, and urged devotees to turn up in large numbers for this year's pilgrimage that starts from July 3. The pilgrimage spot lies in the same district as the Baisaran meadow where a deadly terrorist attack left 26 civilians dead on April 22. 'The J&K administration, the Amarnath Shrine Board, Army, Border Roads Organisation, Central armed police forces, J&K police and all stakeholders are working with complete devotion, dedication, collaboration and clear objectives for hassle-free and safe pilgrimage starting from July 3,' the Lieutenant Governor said. He urged devotees 'to visit in large numbers for the Holy Yatra and pray to Mahadev for the progress of J&K and the nation'. Reviewing preparations A Raj Bhavan spokesman said the Pratham Puja held at the shrine marked the ceremonial beginning of the annual Amarnath Yatra. 'I have full faith that significant improvements to essential facilities and services will ensure this year's pilgrimage is memorable and spiritually fulfilling for all devotees. May Baba Amarnath ji keep showering his divine blessings on all of us,' Mr. Sinha said. The Lieutenant Governor also visited Baltal in Ganderbal district to review the arrangements in place for medical and healthcare at the Baltal Base Camp Hospital. He directed officials to ensure the availability of adequate numbers of doctors, paramedical staff, and other healthcare professionals, along with medical equipment, medicines, oxygen cylinders, and round-the-clock healthcare services for the well-being of the pilgrims. This year, the yatra will commence on July 3 from both routes — the Pahalgam track in Anantnag district, and Baltal in Ganderbal district. The yatra will culminate on August 9 on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

This year Pratham Puja of Amarnath Yatra was held today on June 11, 2025, coinciding with Jyeshtha Purnima. The ceremony was attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who is also the chairman of the Shri Amarnath ji Shrine Board (SASB). The Lt. Governor performed the puja, seeking blessings from Baba Amarnath ji (Lord Shiva) for the good health, progress, and well-being of all people of the globe. Puja at the Amarnath Cave Shrine ceremony involved the chanting of Vedic mantras and shlokas dedicated to Lord Shiva to invoke divine blessings for the pilgrimage's success. Additional rituals performed on the same day include Bhoomi Puja, Navagraha Puja, Chhari Puja, and Dhwajarohan, with prasad distributed among devotees afterwards. The Shri Amarnath ji Shrine Board has made provisions for devotees to participate virtually through virtual puja, virtual hawan, and online prasad booking, accessible via the official SASB website Morning and evening aarti sessions are also telecast live for devotees. The Amarnath Yatra, including the Pratham Puja, is a symbol of communal harmony in Jammu and Kashmir, with people from various communities, including local Muslims, assisting pilgrims in reaching the shrine. The ritual underscores the ancient traditions of the region, with the SASB ensuring that the yatra is conducted smoothly. The Pratham Puja is a cherished event for millions of devotees worldwide, for whom the pilgrimage is a lifelong aspiration. This holy cave, situated at an altitude of 3,888 meters in the Kashmir Himalayas, had a naturally formed ice lingam. The 2025 Amarnath Yatra will be of 38 days, starting on July 3, and will end on August 9 on the day of Raksha Bandhan. Around 3.5 lakh pilgrims have registered themselves for this year's Yatra till now. The SASB has enhanced facilities, including infrastructure, security, medical aid, and RFID tracking for pilgrims. Pilgrims must register in advance, carry Aadhaar details for RFID cards, and obtain a Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC) issued on or after April 8, 2025. Given recent security concerns in the region, extensive arrangements, including the deployment of 581 additional security battalions are in place to ensure pilgrim safety.

The Jammu and Kashmir LG urged devotees to turn out in large numbers and come to offer prayers at the holy shrine during the Amarnath Yatra. SASB and Admin have improved the pilgrims' facilities. JKP, Army, CRPF, CAPFs have made foolproof security arrangements,' said LG Sinha after his visit. Earlier in the day, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) performed the first puja for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra at the Tawi riverfront. The puja was organised here on the occasion of Jyeshtha Purnima at the Tawi riverfront in Jammu, days ahead of the Amarnath Yatra. On Tuesday, a high-level security meeting chaired by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur, Amod Ashok Nagpure, IPS, was held to review preparations and strategise for the smooth conduct of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, 2025, officials said. The meeting was attended by Additional SP Udhampur, SDPOs, DySPs, and SHOs from Udhampur, Majalta, Rehambal, and Chenani, along with other officers involved in the Yatra arrangements. SSP Nagpure emphasised the importance of strong inter-agency coordination, robust security planning, and effective communication to tackle any challenges and ensure the safety of pilgrims. The discussions centred on key aspects such as security arrangements, intelligence sharing, traffic management, medical aid, emergency response, and logistical support. Special focus was laid on anti-narcotics operations. SSP Nagpure directed all officers to remain vigilant and conduct proactive drives to dismantle narco networks operating in the region. He also instructed officers to maintain a high level of alertness and operational readiness throughout the Yatra. Regular review meetings, briefing sessions, and mock drills were stressed to ensure the flawless implementation of all plans and protocols, officials said. The Amarnath Yatra is an annual Hindu pilgrimage to the sacred Amarnath Cave Shrine, dedicated to Lord Shiva, located at an altitude of about 3,888 meters in the Himalayas of Jammu and Kashmir (J-K). The cave houses a naturally formed ice Shivling, believed to represent Lord Shiva, and draws lakhs of devotees every year. The Yatra is typically held during the Shravan month (July to August) as per the Hindu calendar, under the supervision of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) and with coordinated support from security and civil administration. Mr Sinha performed the 'Pratham Puja' at the cave shrine, marking the ceremonial beginning of the annual yatra this year. "The Pratham Puja was concluded. I request the devotees to come in large numbers for the yatra which will start on July 3 and conclude on Raksha Bandhan on August 9," Mr Sinha said. He said the Shrine Board and the administration have improved the facilities for the pilgrims this year. "Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army, CRPF, and other CAPFs have made foolproof security arrangements. So, I think there is no need for anyone to think about anything, they should come and take Baba's blessings," Mr Sinha added. "Har Har Mahadev! Paid my obeisance to Baba Barfani and performed the 'Pratham Puja' at the Holy Cave, marking the ceremonial beginning of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. May Baba Amarnathji keep showering his divine blessings on all of us," the LG said on 'X' later. Mr Sinha earlier conducted inspection of works for yatra at the Baltal axis of the pilgrimage. He ascertained the progress of the works being carried out at the Disaster Management and Yatri Niwas Complex of Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board at Baltal axis in Ganderbal district of central Kashmir, an official spokesman said. Mr Sinha directed the officials to timely complete the infrastructure projects being developed to enhance facilities for pilgrims of the yatra. The 38-day yatra is scheduled to begin on July 3 from the twin axis of Baltal and Pahalgam in south Kashmir's Anantnag district
