J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday (June 11, 2025) performed the Pratham Puja at the Amarnath shrine located in south Kashmir's Pahalgam, and urged devotees to turn up in large numbers for this year's pilgrimage that starts from July 3.
The pilgrimage spot lies in the same district as the Baisaran meadow where a deadly terrorist attack left 26 civilians dead on April 22.
'The J&K administration, the Amarnath Shrine Board, Army, Border Roads Organisation, Central armed police forces, J&K police and all stakeholders are working with complete devotion, dedication, collaboration and clear objectives for hassle-free and safe pilgrimage starting from July 3,' the Lieutenant Governor said. He urged devotees 'to visit in large numbers for the Holy Yatra and pray to Mahadev for the progress of J&K and the nation'.
Reviewing preparations
A Raj Bhavan spokesman said the Pratham Puja held at the shrine marked the ceremonial beginning of the annual Amarnath Yatra. 'I have full faith that significant improvements to essential facilities and services will ensure this year's pilgrimage is memorable and spiritually fulfilling for all devotees. May Baba Amarnath ji keep showering his divine blessings on all of us,' Mr. Sinha said.
The Lieutenant Governor also visited Baltal in Ganderbal district to review the arrangements in place for medical and healthcare at the Baltal Base Camp Hospital. He directed officials to ensure the availability of adequate numbers of doctors, paramedical staff, and other healthcare professionals, along with medical equipment, medicines, oxygen cylinders, and round-the-clock healthcare services for the well-being of the pilgrims.
This year, the yatra will commence on July 3 from both routes — the Pahalgam track in Anantnag district, and Baltal in Ganderbal district. The yatra will culminate on August 9 on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
