Lucknow: The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) will construct a 500-metre jogging track at Morpankhi Lawn near Marine Drive as part of new development works planned for the Gomti Riverfront. The project, covering a 380-metre stretch between ADCP office and Pipraghat, includes a jogging track, open gym, yoga hut, gazebo, improved lighting, and a new toilet block at a cost of about Rs 28 lakh near the CO office on Marine Drive in Gomtinagar. "We are increasing recreational facilities and improving public access to the riverfront. Five new entry and exit points will be created between Lohia Setu and the ADCP office to make the area more accessible to visitors," he said. tnn He added that the work would use around Rs 11 crore from infrastructural fund for development, horticulture, electrification, and maintenance work. Meanwhile, LDA officials also acted against unauthorised occupation of public land near Gomtinagar Extension on Saturday. The authority demolished encroachments, including a private cricket academy, from about 15 acres of LDA land near G20 road. Safety audit must for 276 high-rises in Lucknow
Lucknow: A structural safety audit will now be mandatory for 276 high-rises in Lucknow. The directive has been issued by the Lucknow Development Authority. Of these, 58 belong to LDA, while 218 are privately owned. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now All 276 buildings are between 5 and 40 years old. The decision was taken after the collapse of Alaya Apartment in 2023 and a commercial building in Transport Nagar last year. Following these incidents, a proposal was prepared by LDA officials and approved by its board in Sept last year. As per the regulation, every building over 15 metres in height will undergo a structural audit once every five years. The rule's implementation got delayed, but now it will rollout as the state govt has included safety audit in the building bylaws. The safety audit will involve checking of the structural integrity of a building, including its walls, columns, beams, and foundations. Based on the findings, recommendations will be made for repairs or demolition if required. According to LDA officials, recent structural audits of 150 buildings conducted by IIT Kanpur revealed major safety concerns in certain structures. The audit identified severe structural issues at the Nanda Kheda Complex, declaring it highly unsafe. In a separate inspection, the Amritlal Naagar Auditorium in Chowk, assessed by an LDA-empanelled architect, was found to be 70% structurally safe, with 30% of the structure showing signs of damage. The Vikas Deep Building on Station Road was reported to have weak brick masonry, though the overall structure was largely stable. LDA VC Prathmesh Kumar said, "Safety audit will be done for the first time after completion of 10 years. Recent incidents exposed the risks posed by ageing and poorly maintained structures. The audits are being made mandatory to avoid future tragedies and ensure public safety."

Lucknow: LDA forms committee to address Basant Kunj's issues
LUCKNOW : Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) constituted a committee to address the long-pending issues related to Sector A of the Basant Kunj housing scheme . The move came after it was found that plots were sold without the physical acquisition of land. LDA secretary CP Tripathi said on Monday that the committee has been tasked with two major responsibilities: negotiating with farmers who are demanding higher compensation and identifying officials responsible for opening registration without completing the land acquisition process. Officials said that launched in the 1990s, the Basant Kunj scheme covered 1,353 acres spread across ten sectors (A to J), involving land of around 800 farmers and inhabitants. During the acquisition process, while some farmers accepted compensation, others opposed it, demanding higher rates. Two years ago, LDA reopened registration for plots in Sector A with great enthusiasm. More than 5,000 people registered for plots of 72, 112, and 200 square metres. Through a lottery, 272 allottees were selected and full payment was collected — Rs 21 lakh for 72 sqm plots, Rs 32 lakh for 112 sqm, and Rs 58 lakh for 200 sqm plots. However, due to farmers' continued possession of the land, neither registration nor physical possession of plots could be given to the allottees. Officials from LDA's acquisition section said that several rounds of talks with farmers failed to resolve the dispute. As the matter remains unresolved, there is a risk of legal actions against LDA in the Monument Court, RERA and other forums. LDA had decided to cancel Sector A of the Basant Kunj scheme and promised to refund the amount to allottees. However, after facing strong backlash from the allottees — who kept their hard-earned money deposited for two years in the hope of building their dream homes — LDA vice-chairman Prathmesh Kumar suspended the cancellation order on April 9. Deputy secretary CP Tripathi added that the newly formed committee would work swiftly to resolve the issue.
