Marite teen seeks urgent help to house her four-person family with dignity
A 19-year-old girl is desperately appealing for help to secure a safe and dignified home for her family, who are currently living in a severely dilapidated single-room structure. Precious Chiloane shares the crumbling room with her mother and two brothers, aged four and 26. The family's living conditions are dire, with no privacy and a lack of basic amenities. ALSO READ: St Anne Solidarity in Mbombela gathers to honour strength of women 'The situation is bad – we all have to share one room. We bath, cook and sleep in the same space. The worst part is that when we need to bath, the others must sit outside, even if it's cold or raining,' she said. Chiloane added that the cramped conditions have negatively affected both her and her younger brother's school performance. They are often mocked by other learners, and the lack of space makes it difficult to complete homework or study. 'I am pleading with local businesses and the government to please build us a house or help fix the one we have, so we can live with dignity. My mother cannot afford to build a house, and our relatives cannot take us in. We need to be under one roof as a family,' she said. Chiloane hopes her story will reach kind-hearted individuals or organisations willing to provide a safe and stable environment for her family. 'Once the councillor submits the request, the municipality will assess the family's circumstances to determine whether urgent housing assistance is needed,' said Thovhakale. 'They will then be placed on a list according to the level of need. In most cases, if the situation is critical, we ensure they receive a house, as we have different categories for housing support.'

Brooklyn woman struck by stray bullet begs shooter to turn himself in
A 65-year-old woman who was struck by a stray bullet while running errands in Brooklyn is afraid the shooter is still out there. She spoke out about the shooting for the first time in an exclusive interview with CBS News New York's Natalie Duddridge. Vivette Morris, who goes by Precious, says she was walking to get groceries just after 10 a.m. on July 13 when she was shot outside her apartment near Brooklyn and Foster avenues in East Flatbush. "I hear the shot, and I feel when it hit me. It sting me. This foot, my left foot gets stiff. I couldn't move it. All of me, I scream out and I call people. Nobody comes," she said. She says good Samaritans eventually called 911. An ambulance took her to the hospital, where doctors found a bullet lodged near her hip. "The doctor said the hip bone crack," Morris said. "They cannot remove it because of where it is. They can't touch it." She is now home from the hospital, but still recovering, relying on a cane and walker to get around. "Right now, I'm in pain," she said. Police are still searching for the suspect, who was described as wearing a light blue sweatsuit and fleeing in a black BMW. "I want to know why these guys ... fired shots for what reason? For what reason? And the policeman is not there. There's no security here," Morris said. Morris says she's worried the shooter still out there and could come back. "I'm begging that person just to give up himself. Put down the gun, please. 'Cause one life we have to live, and we all want to live and be happy," she said.

‘I reached out privately to apologise' – Minnie Ntuli clears the air on Londie London beef
We had Sane, who had tea on every cast member on The Real Housewives of Durban (RHOD). Just as we were catching our breath, Minnie Ntuli took us by storm. Every week since her debut on the fifth season of the reality show, the 30-year-old has become the talk of the country. From accusing Durban businesswoman, Precious, of mistreating her salon staff to throwing lemons at Londie London. Most people have even wondered why she was cast and why she agreed to be part of the show if all she'll be doing is centering her relevance around other cast members. To this, she says she took it as an opportunity to step out of her comfort zone. 'To be honest, it wasn't part of the plan. But when the opportunity came, I saw it as a chance to step out of my comfort zone and be part of something bold, loud, and very Durban. I also wanted to represent a different kind of woman, someone who's still figuring things out, but doing so authentically and unapologetically.' Read more | 'I acknowledge my part in the chaos' – Nonku Williams quits RHOD When her family and friends found out that she'd be on the show, they were shocked but supportive. 'My mom said, 'Ungakhohlwa ukuthi ungubani' [Never forget who you are]. My close circle was excited and also protective. They know I'm sensitive but spicy, and reality TV is no walk in the park.' As someone who had watched RHOD before, she was expecting it to be a rollercoaster of a ride. She also admits that watching the drama and being part of the drama were two different experiences. 'Absolutely. I was nervous about how I'd be perceived. I mean, people will judge you for breathing wrong on camera. But I also knew that if I went in with an open heart and stayed true to myself, I'd be okay. I didn't expect the emotional rollercoaster, though.' 'Watching is entertainment. Living in it is unpredictable, emotional, and sometimes overwhelming. The cameras don't stop rolling when you're tired or triggered. It's raw. You can't curate your responses, and that's where the growth happens, honestly,' she adds. While shooting the character-building show, the broadcaster discovered a lot about herself. 'You think you know who you are, and then someone presses your buttons on camera and it's like, 'Oh wow, is that me?' The experience really exposes both your strengths and your shadows.' To stay afloat with all the pressure of being a public figure, Minnie shares that she takes breaks to protect her peace and prays a lot. Over and above all, she's learnt to remind herself that public opinion doesn't define her, especially as some moments were portrayed differently on TV. 'That's the nature of edited television. There were conversations and context that didn't make the cut, especially around some of the more intense moments. But I'm not here to blame editing. I also take responsibility for how I showed up. I'm a work in progress. The people who know my heart matter the most. Still, it's tough. Some days are harder than others, but I'm learning not to take everything personally.' Read more | 'I love a challenge' – Londie London ready to return officially on RHOD For her, the most painful experience on the show came mostly from the social media backlash and criticism. 'It's not easy. People say hurtful things with zero context, and it stings. But I try to separate the noise from the truth. I read what I need to grow, and I release what doesn't serve me. I've had to remind myself daily that having flaws means owning your mistakes, learning out loud, and giving yourself grace.' She clears misconceptions about her being a hot-headed, defensive girl with an attitude and says that there's more to her. 'I'm soft-hearted. I just happen to be fiery when pushed. I feel deeply, and sometimes that comes out messily. But I'm not fake. What you see is what you get.' As for her and Londie, the two don't have a history. After all the fights on and off camera, we finally find out that there was no context to the clash. 'There's no dramatic backstory or secret feud. What happened between us happened on the show, in real time, and, unfortunately, it spiralled. Emotions were high, egos were bruised, and communication broke down. I've since reflected and reached out privately to apologise. What viewers saw wasn't the full picture, but my actions in those moments are on me.' For her sake, we hope the apology will also be dished out at the reunion as publicly as all the attacks throughout the season.

‘Raw' thriller with unbelievable twist shoots to the top of Netflix chart
A 'powerful' new thriller has stormed to the top of the Netflix charts, claiming more than 25million views in just a few days. Written, directed and produced by Alex Cross star Tyler Perry, Straw follows a single mother who becomes embroiled in a sequence of terrible and violent events as she struggles to care for her ill daughter. Oscar-nominee Taraji P Henson leads the cast alongside Teyana Taylor, Jingle All the Way actor Sinbad, and Precious actress Sherri Shepherd. The movie was added to the streaming platform on June 6 and it didn't take long for fans to watch it in their droves – as it has dominated the global charts. Straw currently commands the top spot with more than 25.3m views in the last seven days, and over 45.5m hours watched. It beat out stiff competition from the Now You See Me franchise, the Bee Movie, M3GAN and Nonnas for the top slot. Wrath of the Titans, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Puss In Boots: The Last Wish and the Wild Robot also make up the list. Emerging to strong word of mouth from audiences, the film has been described as one of Tyler's best films to date – admittedly, this mixed-bag of a catalogue does include his Madea and Mrs Brown's Boys crossover. Viewers were particularly vocal about the 'heartbreaking' ending – which featured a twist to the tale which will ensure it won't be forgotten in a hurry. After watching, fans took to social media to share their thoughts on what they had just witnessed. 'Straw is such a humbling movie. The rawness was so real and the plot twist was crazy,' she_mego wrote on X. 'What a walk through emotions @tylerperry's Straw. The plot twist at the end wallowed me up. A good watch indeed!' sandra_buma agreed. 'After watching Straw, I no longer know how my heart is feeling. When what gave you purpose is suddenly gone. It speaks to a pain that's hard to name. Raw, emotional, and deeply human. Kudos to the writer… truly outdone,' david_harris_r said. 'Tyler Perrys Straw absolutely incredible I literally cried blown away! [sic]'MelisaWhiskey added. Critics also heaped praise on Taraji, with Screen Rant describing her performance as 'an acting masterclass.' 'Straw has a cultural pulse-taking urgency that lifts it above [Tyler Perry's] usual run of comedies and melodramatic potboilers, flawed as it is,' Dennis Harvey of Variety wrote. Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly described the film's emotions as 'so raw and the performances are so earnest that you've really got to have a heart of stone not to care for these people.' Award-winning Taraji previously starred in hit movies The Color Purple and Hidden Figures, as well as iconic series Empire. Her performance in the film comes two years after she spoke out on the issue of inequality in pay for Hollywood's women of colour. 'I'm just tired of working so hard, being gracious at what I do, getting paid a fraction of the cost,' she told Gayle King on SiriusXM Radio. 'I'm tired of hearing my sisters saying the same thing over and over. You get tired. I hear people go, 'You work a lot.' I have to – the math ain't mathing. 'And when you start working a lot, you have a team. Big bills come with what we do. We don't do this alone. The fact that we're up here, there's a whole entire team behind us. They have to get paid. 'When you hear people saying, 'Oh, such and such made $10m.' That didn't make it to their account. Know that off the top, Uncle Sam is getting 50%. Do the math. 'Now we have $5m – your team is getting 30% off of what you gross, not after what Uncle Sam took. Now do the math.' As the interview went viral, fans and peers in the acting community shared messages of support. 'Not a damn lie told. Not. A. Damn. Lie. We go TO BAT for the next generation and hell even our own generation and above,' Gabrielle Union cheered in response. 'We don't hesitate to be the change that we all need to see AND it takes a toll on your mind, health, soul, and career if we're keepn it [100]. [Love] u @tarajiphenson. [sic]' More Trending 'We feel you, @tarajiphenson and we love you. It's a fight we ALL are waging,' Community star Yvette Nicole Brown agreed. 'For ourselves and for the ones coming up after us. This mess sucks!' This article was first published on June 8. Straw is now streaming on Netflix. Got a story?
