Texas DPS: 6 apprehended after pursuit near UTEP

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Six people were apprehended after a failed traffic stop ended in a pursuit involving the Texas Department of Public Safety troopers on Tuesday morning, May 27, near the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). The preliminary investigation shows that shortly after 9 a.m. on Tuesday, a Texas DPS trooper spotted a black Nissan Versa on Paisano Drive and tried to pull it over for a violation. However, the driver didn't stop and fled from the trooper, DPS said. During the pursuit, the rear tire was disabled with stop sticks, but the car continued toward Loop 375, DPS said. DPS said another trooper used the Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT), causing the car to hit a concrete barrier before stopping on Loop 375 near Spur 1966. That's alongside UTEP. All occupants were apprehended. The driver was taken into custody by DPS, and U.S. Border Patrol took the five other passengers, suspected to be undocumented migrants, DPS said. The investigation is ongoing. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Kidnapped SC woman asks stranger to get help at I-20 rest stop, Georgia cops say

A suspected kidnapping came to light in an unusual way, when the victim was given a bathroom break and she risked asking a passerby at the rest stop to call 911, Georgia investigators say. It happened around 8:50 a.m. Saturday, May 17, in Morgan County, Georgia, and that 911 call set off a multi-county pursuit, according to the Covington Police Department in Georgia. The woman had been abducted earlier that day from her home in South Carolina, officials said. 'An adult female approached an individual at the rest stop on Interstate 20 in Morgan County stating that she had been kidnapped and asked the individual to call 911,' Covington police said in May 19 news release. 'The individual was able to contact 911 and give a description of the vehicle and the female victim. Officers began patrolling Interstate 20 (and) observed the vehicle traveling west on Interstate 20.' A traffic stop was initiated, but the vehicle stopped only briefly, revealing 'the victim still inside,' police said. 'Officers began a vehicle pursuit on Interstate 20 westbound. The vehicle subsequently stopped in Rockdale County after a successful PIT maneuver (Precision Immobilization Technique) by the Newton County Sheriff's Office,' Covington police said. 'The suspect, Charles Davis, attempted to flee on foot but was tased and quickly apprehended. The victim was unharmed and was safely recovered.' Investigators say the ordeal began when Davis forced his way into the victim's home and took her against her will. A motive has not been released, and investigators have not said where Davis was headed when the vehicle was stopped. Jail records show he lives in Batesburg, South Carolina, about a 35-mile drive southwest from Columbia. The location of the victim's home was not released. Davis has been charged with: Felony kidnappingFelony false imprisonmentMisdemeanor reckless drivingFelony fleeing or attempting to elude a police officerMisdemeanor willful obstruction of law enforcement Additional charges are expected in South Carolina, Covington police said.

Georgia trooper hurt in crash while assisting Waycross police during pursuit

A Georgia State Patrol trooper was injured in a crash Wednesday night while he was assisting the Waycross Police Department in a pursuit. GSP said Waycross officers were trying to stop a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Tracy Hilliard, 47, on Swamp Road near Gilmore Drive. GSP said Trooper First Class Justin Jones 'became the primary position in the pursuit' and worked to disable Hilliard's vehicle with a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver. Jones' patrol car and the Tahoe both left the road, and the patrol car ended up 'overturned and partially submerged in a canal,' GSP said. Hilliard's vehicle ended up on top of Jones' patrol car, and Jones had to be rescued from the car by WPD officers. [SIGN UP: Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter] The Waycross-Ware County Development Authority said in a Facebook post that Jones was airlifted to Memorial Trauma Center in Savannah. 'As a community, we stand in support of Trooper Jones and his loved ones during this difficult time. We're all wishing him strength, healing, and a full recovery,' the Authority said in its Facebook post. GSP said Jones expects to be released from the hospital soon. JDM-Spec MkIV Toyota Supra Wrecked After 100-MPH Chase Ends in PIT Maneuver, Police Say

A wild high-speed chase over the Gandy Bridge in Hillsborough County, Florida ended in flames early Sunday after a Florida Highway Patrol vehicle used a PIT maneuver to stop a fleeing Toyota Supra. But this wasn't just any run-of-the-mill Supra like you'd find in a Toyota showroom these days — it was apparently a Japanese domestic market fourth-generation version. The May 4 incident began around 1:00 am, according to authorities, when a trooper clocked the black right-hand-drive MkIV Supra at 93 mph in a 55 mph zone. When said trooper attempted to pull over the sports car, the driver allegedly fled at more than 100 mph. The chase came to a violent end at the east end of the bridge, when according to the Tampa office of the FHP's Instagram account, the trooper executed a PIT — a.k.a. Precision Immobilization Technique —maneuver, spinning the vehicle off the roadway. The Supra rotated onto the shoulder, struck a light pole, and erupted into flames, according to police; both occupants survived, but reportedly sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and were taken to nearby medical facilities for care. The driver, identified by police as 31-year-old Brandon Ramnarine of Tampa, was transported to an area hospital and charged with fleeing and eluding at high speed. His passenger, a 32-year-old Tampa man, was also hospitalized. The rare Japanese-market Supra, however, suffered far more serious damage; as the images posted by the FHP reveal, it was left mangled and charred almost beyond recognition. FHP You Might Also Like

Liberty Couty high-speed chase ends in Bryan County

LIBERTY COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) — A routine traffic stop for speeding turned into a high-speed chase on I-95 Monday. A Liberty County deputy attempted to stop a silver Mazda with a Florida license plate for speeding on mile marker 68 northbound on I-95 shortly after 8 pm., Liberty County Deputy Lt. Brian Barnes said. The car was reportedly stolen in Florida. The reportedly driver continued to travel at a high rate of speed with the deputy in pursuit with flashing lights. Barnes said according to radio traffic, the speed reached as high as 140 mph with the driver passing vehicles on the right lane. The deputy then made the decision to use the PIT (Precision Immobilization Technique) maneuver when traffic was light to stop the vehicle. The driver lost control and hit a guard rail before the car came to a stop at mile marker 86 in Bryan County. After the car stopped, the driver reportedly fled into the woods. He was arrested soon after. The driver and a passenger were transported to a Savannah hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
