Liverpool interested in Alexander Isak 'as three-man striker shortlist emerges'

Liverpool are now expected to focus on signing a new elite striker, with Alexander Isak part of a possible three-man shortlist. The Reds have already spent upwards of £210million, including the club-record-smashing £116m arrival of Florian Wirtz and the £40m spent on Bournemouth's Milos Slot is keen to continue bolstering his Premier League-winning squad with patience finally running out on £85m flop Darwin Nunez, who is expected to leave this summer. The Athletic report that both Napoli and Al Hilal are monitoring the Uryuguan. Federico Chiesa is also likely to leave should an acceptable offer come in. The same report details Liverpool's intention to sign a new striker, and Newcastle frontman Isak remains of significant interest along with Hugo Ekitike, who the Magpies are currently looking to sign to play alongside the Sweden star. Also named are Victor Osimhen, who Napoli are keen to offload and last week rejected a bid in the region of €75million (£65m) from Galatasaray as they were unhappy with the payment structure. Osimhen spent last season on loan at the Turkish giants and is reportedly willing to return on a permanent basis. Liverpool are also credited with interest in Joao Pedro, who Chelsea signed for £60m earlier in the window, and Nicolas Jackson, who will see his Blues spot threatened by this new team-mate. The Athletic suggests Jackson is not a realistic target given his Chelsea ties. That appears to leave long-time target Isak, along with Ekitike and Osimhen, as the three strikers most in Liverpool's thinking as it stands. Newcastle remain in talks over signing Ekitike for a club-record £65m and, The Athletic add, remain adamant that the move is no indication over Isak's future as the plan is to play the pair together. Manager Eddie Howe is keen to tie Isak down to a new contract, but his current terms run for another three years so there is no immediate need to do so.

Liverpool In The Race For Isak! Reds Preparing Record-Bid For Newcastle Striker: Report

Last Updated: Liverpool have spent over £210 million this summer and have now reportedly approached Newcastle, offering around £120 million for Isak. Liverpool is now prioritizing the signing of a top-tier striker, with Alexander Isak reportedly high on a three-man shortlist. The Reds have already invested over £210 million this summer, including a club-record £116 million to bring in Florian Wirtz and £40 million for Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. According to The Athletic, Liverpool have made a formal approach to Newcastle United in pursuit of Isak. While an official bid is yet to be submitted, the Merseyside club have informed the Magpies they are willing to negotiate a deal in the region of £120 million. The Sweden international, formerly of Real Sociedad, was one of the Premier League's standout forwards last season. The Swedish international scored 21 goals in 30 league appearances, placing him among the top scorers in the competition. His goals played a crucial role in Newcastle's Carabao Cup triumph over Liverpool and their qualification for the Champions League. Manager Arne Slot is looking to further strengthen his Premier League-winning squad, especially with patience reportedly wearing thin on Darwin Nunez, who has failed to meet expectations since his £85 million move. The Uruguayan forward is now expected to leave Anfield this summer. For Liverpool, Victor Osimhen also remains a serious target. Napoli are open to selling the Nigerian striker and recently turned down a €75 million (£65 million) bid from Galatasaray due to concerns over the payment terms. Federico Chiesa is another name linked with Liverpool, with Juventus willing to sell if a suitable offer is received. view comments First Published: July 15, 2025, 20:03 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Liverpool's reason for playing in last season's kit in friendly at Preston

Liverpool will still be sporting last season's Premier League-winning jersey when they return to action at Preston North End in pre-season - and it is for a peculiar reason Liverpool will return to action for the first time since winning the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, although all thoughts remain with the family of Diogo Jota following the tragic loss of the Reds forward on July 3. The Reds are at Deepdale to take on Preston North End, with Arne Slot insisting that the club's players will do all they can to honour Jota's memory having been rocked by the passing of their team-mate. ‌ Jota's final appearance for Liverpool came in the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace on the final day of last season, after which he lifted the Premier League trophy and posed with it on the Anfield pitch alongside his wife Rute and three children. ‌ The club have announced that Jota's No.20 shirt will now be retired across all levels, including the women's team and youth sides. But as every other Premier League club are busy releasing their new kits for the season, on Sunday the Reds will be seen in the red Nike shirt that they won the title in during the last campaign. This is because the club's new kit deal with Adidas doesn't come into effect until August 1, and so for now they will remain playing and training in Nike gear in order to honour the existing deal. ‌ After facing Preston the Reds will take much of their pre-season preparations behind closed doors before heading on a pre-season tour of Japan where they will play AC Milan on July 26 and Yokohama F. Marinos on July 30, both in Nike kits. They will then switch to Adidas apparel for their double-header pre-season friendly against Athletic Bilbao at Anfield on August 4, when they will play two matches. The Community Shield against Crystal Palace follows at Wembley on August 10, before the Reds kick off their Premier League defence at home to Bournemouth on August 15. ‌ Liverpool have also confirmed temporary pre-season squad numbers for their six new signings, with decisions still to be made on the numbers they will wear once Premier League action kicks off. For now, Giorgi Mamardashvili will wear No.55, Freddie Woodman No.56, Milos Kerkez No.57, Florian Wirtz No.58, Jeremie Frimpong No.59 and Armin Pecsi No.60.
