LSU newcomer named SEC Preseason Freshman of the Year by D1Baseball
Derek Curiel, a top member of LSU baseball's 2024 recruiting class, was named the SEC Preseason Freshman of the Year.
Coming out of high school, Curiel was ranked as the No. 10 overall high school player in the country and the second-best high school player in California by Perfect Game.
During his Senior Year at Orange Lutheran High School, Curiel had a .314 batting average with 10 doubles, 21 RBI, and 19 stolen bases. The left-handed outfielder participated in LSU's intrasquad games in the fall of 2024 and was a standout for the Tigers. He finished with a .388 batting average and a .522 on-base percentage in those games.
The hype surrounding Curiel is real as he could be the next great Tiger in the outfield. He will have a lot of playing time this season and will hopefully continue to shine.
