Braveheart Gadchiroli Cops, Joint CP Reddy Get President's Police Medals
Nagpur: On the eve of Independence Day, seven Gadchiroli police personnel were awarded the prestigious President's Police Medal for Gallantry for their extraordinary bravery during a 2017 Maoist ambush on the Hemalkasa-Karampalli Road. The awardees include assistant police inspector Netaji Bandgar, constables Manohar Mahaka, Manohar Pendam, Prakash Kannake, Atul Yegolpawar, Hidayat Khan, and posthumously, constable Suresh Telami. During the attack, Maoists detonated an IED and opened fire on a C-60 commando unit returning from Kothi to Bhamragad. These officers heroically protected injured colleagues and countered heavy gunfire, showcasing exceptional courage. In Nagpur, joint commissioner of police Navinchandra Reddy, assistant commissioner Narendra Hiware, police sub-inspectors Anil Brahmankar and Ramesh Tajane, and additional commissioner Pramod Shewale were also honoured with the President's Police Medal. His exemplary service includes stints in Gadchiroli's Maoist-affected areas, Mumbai, Pune, and as Amravati police commissioner (2022-25). In 2010, Reddy received the Director General of Police's commendation for distinguished service. Hiware, with 356 rewards, solved high-profile cases like the Khapa triple murder and Ganeshpeth's severed body in a lake, earning the Central Home Ministry's Best Investigation Award in 2019. Thane power couple: Independence Day honours celebrate decades of service; superintendent duo to receive President's Police Medal
In a recognition for a couple working in one of Maharashtra's toughest workplaces, a husband-and-wife duo from Thane Central Jail have been named among eight personnel from the state's prisons department to receive prestigious police medals. The announcement came on Thursday, when the Union government declared service medals for 1,090 police personnel from various central and state forces on the eve of Independence Day. An official said the Maharashtra list features Rani Bhosale, superintendent of Thane Central Jail, and her husband Rajaram Bhosale, an additional superintendent at the same facility. The couple has been awarded the President's Medal for Meritorious Service, in recognition of their decades-long dedication in the face of challenging environment of a prison. The other recipients from the state's prisons department include Gajanan Kashinath Sarode, Deputy Superintendent, Mumbai Central Jail; Sanjay Gangaram Shivgan, Subedar, Mumbai Central Jail; Sudhakar Omkar Chavan, Havaldar, Mumbai Central Jail; Rajesh Madhukar Sawant, Constable, Byculla District Jail; Sanjay Sadashiv Jadhav, Constable, Byculla District Jail; and Vidya Bharat Dhembere, Prison Constable, Kolhapur Central Jail. Additional Director General of Police (Prisons and Correction Services) Suhas Warke said, 'The integrity and devotion to duty of the awardees had set a benchmark for all in the department.' According to the Union Home Ministry, 233 personnel have been awarded the Medal for Gallantry (GM), 99 have received the President's Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) and 758 have been honoured with the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM).

Telangana police officers awarded President's Medal for service and distinction
A distinguished group of police personnel from Telangana has been awarded the President's Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM), a recognition of their long-standing dedication, exemplary fieldwork and leadership in some of the State's toughest policing environments. The list spans a wide range of units, from the elite Greyhounds and OCTOPUS forces to intelligence cells and district police stations. Two senior officers, Vijay Kumar, serving as Director General, ACB, Hyderabad, and M. Ramana Kumar, SP (NC), Sangareddy, have also been awarded the President's Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM). Among those recognised for meritorious service is K. Rama Krishna Prasad Rao, Addl. SP (Admn), TGPA, and Bandi Venkateswara Reddy, Addl. Commandant, 8th Battalion, TGSP. Others include Atmakuri Venkateswarlu, who commands a Greyhounds unit, and Araveti Bhanu Prasad Rao, Inspector of Police, IT & C, Hyderabad. Ajella Srinivasa Rao, a retired Reserve Inspector from TGSP, currently in the United States, has also been named among the awardees, along with officers like S. Venkateswarlu from ACB Hyderabad, Mahankali Madhu of the Intelligence Cell, and several Assistant Reserve Sub-Inspectors and Head Constables from TGSP units. Meanwhile, 19 more personnel, largely from frontline and tactical units, have also been honoured. These include R. Bhaaskaran, who heads operations at the State Intelligence Bureau, Telangana, and serves as SP, CI Cell Intelligence, P.K.S. Ramesh, an Assistant Commandant with the Greyhounds, currently posted as DSP (AR), K. Purushotham Reddy, Inspector with the SIB, now serving as DSP/ACP, Gajwel, Siddipet, K. Shiva Prasad and B. Kumar, posted in Bhadradri Kothagudem and Mulugu districts respectively, have received the award for their ground-level contributions. A strong contingent from the Greyhounds has been recognised for operational excellence in anti-extremist duties. Among them are G. Prathap Singh, K. Parusuram Naik, K. Thirupathaiah, Abdul Azeem, M. Papa Rao, N. Laliya, M. Bhaskara Rao, K. Venkanna, Malotu Ramulu, P. Satyanarayana, and V. Ramesh — all field personnel who have carried out dangerous assignments in Naxal-affected regions.
