Braveheart Gadchiroli Cops, Joint CP Reddy Get President's Police Medals
Nagpur: On the eve of Independence Day, seven Gadchiroli police personnel were awarded the prestigious President's Police Medal for Gallantry for their extraordinary bravery during a 2017 Maoist ambush on the Hemalkasa-Karampalli Road. The awardees include assistant police inspector Netaji Bandgar, constables Manohar Mahaka, Manohar Pendam, Prakash Kannake, Atul Yegolpawar, Hidayat Khan, and posthumously, constable Suresh Telami. During the attack, Maoists detonated an IED and opened fire on a C-60 commando unit returning from Kothi to Bhamragad. These officers heroically protected injured colleagues and countered heavy gunfire, showcasing exceptional courage. In Nagpur, joint commissioner of police Navinchandra Reddy, assistant commissioner Narendra Hiware, police sub-inspectors Anil Brahmankar and Ramesh Tajane, and additional commissioner Pramod Shewale were also honoured with the President's Police Medal. His exemplary service includes stints in Gadchiroli's Maoist-affected areas, Mumbai, Pune, and as Amravati police commissioner (2022-25). In 2010, Reddy received the Director General of Police's commendation for distinguished service. Hiware, with 356 rewards, solved high-profile cases like the Khapa triple murder and Ganeshpeth's severed body in a lake, earning the Central Home Ministry's Best Investigation Award in 2019. Senior inspector of Wadi police station Rajesh Tatkare, Vaishali Kukde, Lakshmi Gokhale (Bharosa cell), Sheela Badole, and Sheela Khadse were proud recipients of the Special Service Medal. Kurnool-born IPS officer gets his sixth President's Medal for Gallantry
Kurnool-born IPS officer G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy has been awarded his sixth President's Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG). A 2014 batch officer, he is presently serving as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Srinagar. He will be receiving the medal during the Independence Day celebrations in New Delhi. The award was given to Mr. Sundeep Chakravarthy in recognition of his bravery, courage and participation in multiple anti-terrorist operations in Kashmir valley. Mr. Sundeep Chakravarthy hails from Kurnool city and did his schooling from Montessori Public School, A-Camp in Kurnool, and graduated in medicine from Kurnool Medical College before joining the Indian Police Service in 2014. He had served at key postings in Jammu and Kashmir, including ASP Poonch, District SP of Handwara, Kupwara, Kulgam, Anantnag, South Zone Srinagar and Operations in Baramulla. He had earlier received PMG five times, Jammu and Kashmir Police Medal for Gallantry four times, Indian Army Chief's Commendation Disc and other medals. His father Dr. G.V. Rama Gopal Rao is a retired RMO at the Government General Hospital, Kurnool and mother P.C. Rangamma retired as officer in Health Department.
