President Trump butchers Tua Tagovailoa's name. How do you pronounce it?
Donald Trump has a history of unique pronunciations for certain words, from "China" to "huge." Adding Tua Tagovailoa to that list isn't much of a surprse. The president was announcing the members of the reformed President's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition and the return of the Presidential Fitness Test in schools. One of the members of the council is the Miami Dolphins quarterback, who led the NFL in passing yards in 2023 and who won the national championship for Alabama in 2018. Trump had a tough time getting his mouth around the Samoan name, leading to this humorous butchering of Tagovailoa: To be fair, "Tag-o-volley-ah" is not the worst effort someone has put into saying Tagovailoa's name, and so many fans and sports media members just stick with "Tua" to avoid this exact scenario. But Tagovailoa has spent time with the Trump family and is rumored to be a Trump supporter (even if some rumors have proven to be false). It wasn't as though Trump was totally unfamiliar with his work, going on to say, "When he's not injured, he's great, he's gonna ... stay healthy." Tagovailoa missed six games last season with a concussion and hip injury, both of which have cost him significant time in both college and the pros. How do you pronounce Tua Tagovailoa's name? Tua's full name is Tuanigamanuolepola Donny Tagovailoa. He is a Samoan who was born in Hawaii, and yes, his name is a mouthful for non-Samoans. Tua's last name is similar to former Florida State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, who also is of Samoan descent. When you see "ag" in a Samoan name, pronounce it by turning the "a" sound into a "u" and adding an "n." That's how you get "TUNG-oh-vai-lo-ah." Listen to Tua himself guide you through saying his name to the German media before the Dolphins' game in Frankfurt in 2023: Trump can save this for reference next time ... as long as he hasn't banned TikTok. Saquon Barkley Turns Down Invitation From Trump Administration
Saquon Barkley Turns Down Invitation From Trump Administration originally appeared on The Spun. Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley may have played a round of golf with President Donald Trump, but that doesn't mean he's ready to accept a role with the American government. Last week, Trump signed an executive order to bring back the Presidential Fitness Test. In addition to revitalizing this fitness test that was created in the late 1950s, he named the newest members of the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. "Meanwhile, the revitalized President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition will create school-based programs to reward excellence in physical education and support the development of a Presidential Fitness Award — working in partnership with athletes, coaches, teams, and schools to champion access to fitness and healthy living for all Americans. The Council will also play an important role in restoring tradition to college athletics, including reforming the broken transfer portal and keeping men out of women's sports," a press release from the White House stated. "The Council will include Executive Director Catherine Granito, Chair Bryson DeChambeau, Saquon Barkley, Gary Bettman, Nick Bosa, Harrison Butker, Cody Campbell, Roger Goodell, Wayne Gretzky, Nelly Korda, Paul 'Triple H' Levesque, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Mariano Rivera, Tony Romo, Annika Sörenstam, Tua Tagovailoa, Lawrence Taylor, Matthew Tkachuk, and Mariano Rivera. Several fans criticized Barkley after seeing his name on the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. Following practice on Monday, the All-Pro running back revealed that he was informed about Trump's new council earlier this year. However, he turned down this offer from his administration. "A couple months ago, it was brought to my team about the council. So I'm not really too familiar with it," Barkley said. "I felt like I am going to be super busy, so me and my family thought it would probably be of best interest to not accept that. I was definitely a little shocked when my name was mentioned. I'm assuming it's something great, so I appreciate it but was a little shocked when my name was mentioned." There you have it, NFL fans. Despite all the buzz on social media, Barkley won't be teaming up with Trump this fall. Barkley will, however, try to lead the Eagles back to the Super Barkley Turns Down Invitation From Trump Administration first appeared on The Spun on Aug 4, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Aug 4, 2025, where it first appeared.

Trump executive order to reestablish Presidential Fitness Test
President Donald Trump will sign an executive order on Thursday reestablishing the President's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition and the Presidential Fitness Test, a White House official confirmed to Fox News. "President Trump wants to ensure America's future generations are strong, healthy, and successful," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement. "President Trump wants every young American to have the opportunity to emphasize healthy, active lifestyles — creating a culture of strength and excellence for years to come." Several pro sports figures are set to be in attendance, including Bryson DeChambeau, Harrison Butker, Annika Sorenstam, Paul "Triple H" Levesque, Lawrence Taylor and Cody Campbell. Dr. Stephen Soloway is also attending the event. DeChambeau will serve as the chair of the council. With the signing of the executive order, Trump is set to address the "widespread epidemic of declining health and physical fitness with a time-tested approach celebrating the exceptionalism of America's sports and fitness traditions." The executive order will direct the council to create "school-based programs that reward excellence in physical education and develop criteria for a Presidential Fitness Award." The council to partner with pro athletes, sports organizations and other athletic figures for support. Trump is expected to sign the executive order later Thursday. President Dwight D. Eisenhower created the President's Council on Youth Fitness in 1956, and President Lyndon B. Johnson established the Presidential Physical Fitness Award in 1966. President Barack Obama retired the Presidential Fitness Test, and the council under his presidency established the Presidential Youth Fitness Program. Trump has been a major figure in the sports world since his presidential campaign for his second term kicked off. He was seen at several college football and NFL games as well as UFC events. He's also recently put pressure on the Washington Commanders and Cleveland Guardians to revert to their former team nicknames, the Redskins and Indians respectively.
