Sada Baby Arrested on Drug Charges

Detroit rapper Sada Baby has been arrested on drug charges stemming from a traffic stop that occurred several months ago, The Detroit News reports. The rapper, real name Casada Sorrell, is being held in Macomb County Jail after being taken into custody Tuesday night, April 8, on a warrant accusing him of possession of less than 25 grams of narcotics. Court records show he has not yet been arraigned, nor has a hearing been scheduled. More from Rolling Stone Brittany Broski Says 'I Don't Give a F-ck' to Her Haters. Sorrell was originally arrested in January during a traffic stop. At the time, police pulled him over at around 4 a.m. because of his tinted windows. Upon checking the vehicle's license plate, they learned that Sorrell had an outstanding warrant from 2023 for driving without a valid license. (Last month, Sorrell pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to display a valid license and was ordered to pay a $200 fine.) During the stop, police searched Sorrell's car and said they found 'possible illegal contraband' (via Fox 2 Detroit). That part of the case remained open as police sent the substance away for testing. Sorrell's arrest this week after the test results came back positive for narcotics (based on court records, it appears the substance was allegedly cocaine). Sada Baby rose to prominence in Detroit's rap scene in the late 2010s with successful singles like 'Aktivated' and 'Pressin' with King Von. He enjoyed his biggest year in 2020, dropping his proper debut album, Skuba Sada 2, his popular mixtape Bartier Bounty 2, and scoring a hit single with 'Whole Lotta Choppas,' which got a remix featuring Nicki Minaj. Rapper Sada Baby arrested in Macomb County on drug charge, records show

Detroit Rapper Sada Baby, whose real name is Casada Sorrell, was being held in the Macomb County Jail on a drug charge Wednesday, according to media reports and online jail and district court records. Sorrell, 32, is charged with controlled substance possession (narcotic/cocaine) less than 25 grams, a felony, according to online court records in 41A District Court in Sterling Heights. The records list the original charge date of Jan. 9. The Free Press left messages for Sorrell's attorney, who could not be immediately reached for comment. Online jail records indicate Sorrell was arrested Tuesday. Sterling Heights Police Capt. Mario Bastianelli indicated in an email Wednesday that Shelby Township police arrested Sorrell on a warrant out of Sterling Heights. Bastianelli said he could not speak to the specifics of the arrest, but indicated a connection to a stop in January. According to a news release from January, a Sterling Heights police officer was traveling on Mound near 18 Mile when he saw a pickup truck with tinted windows about 4 a.m. Jan. 9. Upon checking the license plate, the released indicated, the registered owner — Sorrell — was found to have a warrant for his arrest out of Sterling Heights for driving while unlicensed. The driver was identified as Sorrell, and he was arrested on the warrant, according to the release. It indicated that possible illegal contraband was openly seen inside the vehicle. The release did not indicate what type of possible illegal contraband was found. Sorrell pleaded guilty in March to the charge of failure to display a valid license, a misdemeanor, in 41A District Court in Sterling Heights, according to online court records. They indicate the original misdemeanor charge of driving while unlicensed for three years, first offense, was in 2023 and was dismissed as Sorrell pleaded to the other charge. Sada Baby broke into Detroit's rap scene in the late 2010s with successful singles like 'Aktivated' and 'Pressin' with King Von, reports Rolling Stone magazine. In 2020, he had a hit with 'Whole Lotta Choppas,' which got a remix featuring Nicki Minaj. Contact Christina Hall: chall@ Follow her on X, formerly Twitter: @challreporter. Support local journalism.
