How Did Viewers React? The sight of Pretzel watching younger, more easily adopted dogs struck a chord with Instagram users. Many expressed overwhelming sadness for overlooked adult dogs compared to puppies in shelters. "I'm so insanely thankful for the workers and volunteers at shelters, because it must wreck their hearts to see these angels everyday getting passed over," one person wrote. Another, dreaming of a grand rescue, shared, "My goal is to buy a house in the ranches so I can adopt them all." One comment highlighted Pretzel's past as a mother. "This broke my heart cause you see she's had litters of puppies, and she must feel so used," the commenter wrote. "Being somewhere where it's a constant reminder of your mistreatment is so heart breaking. Probably has trauma seeing puppies carried away from her as well." The plight of adult dogs like Pretzel is a common challenge in shelters. While puppies often find homes quickly, adult dogs, despite often being house-trained and having established personalities, tend to wait longer. Economic hardship makes pet ownership more expensive than ever, and populations of stray and feral animals in many cities continue to grow. True, more pet parents are also choosing to adopt, not shop, for a new pet, but shelter dogs like Pretzel are sometimes waiting longer than ever. Pretzel is an adorable 3-year-old Staffordshire Terrier mix who's been waiting oh-so-patiently at the Humane Society of Broward County in Florida for her forever person to find her. Although she's been a brave and resilient girl, she's beginning to lose hope after watching so many of her puppy neighbors get adopted. Poor Pretzel! I wish I could reach through the screen and give her a hug, but I know she's in wonderful hands at @humanebroward. She was surrendered to the shelter after raising a litter of puppies, and she's been waiting for someone to treat her like their baby ever since. Needless to say, this precious Pittie girl is more than ready to get adopted. The look on her face when she watches other dogs leave for their forever homes is positively heartbreaking, but her perfect person is out there somewhere. My fingers are crossed that they're just about to find her!Pretzel may have had a rough past, but she's a resilient, affectionate, and playful dog who will thrive in the right forever home. Animals get into swim of things at new Sea Life Florida aquarium
The first animals have joined the tanks at the upcoming Sea Life Florida Aquarium in Winter Haven. Among the initial inhabitants are a black-tip reef shark named Pretzel, who was born and raised in a Sea Life attraction in Oberhausen, Germany. 'It's a whole team effort, from transport logistics to habitat checks. A lot goes on behind the scenes to make sure animal arrival is smooth and safe,' Marie Collins, regional head of conservation welfare and education, said in a video released by the attraction. Epic Universe: Exec mixes arts, engineering in theme park roles The aquarium will operate adjacent to Legoland Florida theme park in Polk County. Both are owned by Britain-based Merlin Entertainments Group, which also runs Sea Life Orlando Aquarium, Madame Tussauds and Orlando Eye in Icon Park. The Winter Haven aquarium will feature more than 3,000 marine animals, including stingrays and big-belly seahorses. It will feature 25 interactive exhibits plus a 180-degree ocean tunnel that travels beneath sea life. The new attraction won't have a Lego theme but will include a 'Theme Park Under the Sea' display 'We'll continue to welcomes species in the weeks ahead as we build towards opening day,' Collins said. The grand opening is now scheduled for June 6; its website says a 'soft opening' will launch May 23.
