After negotiation team recalled from Doha, hostage coordinator promises 'talks are continuing'

'The negotiation team has been operating in Doha for 18 days. During this extended period, we have come a long way in order to make progress," said Hirsch. Coordinator for the Hostages and the Coordinator for the Hostages and the Missing Persons, Brig.-Gen. (Res.) Gal Hirsch reaffirmed, in a statement on Thursday, Israel's commitment to bringing all remaining hostages home from Gaza. Shortly after the Prime Minister's Office announced that the Israeli negotiating team would be returning from Qatar, Hirsch addressed the families of the hostages. 'Following the Hamas response that was delivered to us early this morning, and after examining its details in recent hours, it was agreed that the negotiation team will return to Israel for consultations. The talks are continuing and will also continue from Israel,' he said. Hirsch explained that the team's return was intended to provide advice on how to narrow the gaps in the negotiations. 'The negotiation team has been operating in Doha for 18 days. During this extended period, we have come a long way in order to make progress.' He added that 'In the face of many difficulties that Hamas has posed and is posing, we have continuously and resolutely exhausted every chance and possibility of reaching an agreement, and we will continue to do so.' 'We continue to act in the same spirit and the same directive in order to return all of our kidnapped people home, both the living and the dead. We will add and update as soon as possible,' he said. Hostage families respond with concern The Hostages and Missing Families Forum responded to the negotiating team being recalled, stating, 'The families of hostages are following with deep concern the reports that the Israeli negotiating team has returned from Doha. 'The negotiations have dragged on for far too long. Each day that passes endangers the hostages' chances of recovery and risks losing the ability to locate the fallen or gain vital intelligence about them.' The forum then called on leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, and Coordinator for the Hostages and the Missing Persons, Brig.-Gen. (Res.) Gal Hirsch, 'to provide an immediate update on the current status of the negotiations and the main gaps preventing a deal.' The forum's statement continued: 'Another missed opportunity to bring all 50 hostages back would be inexcusable. It would be yet another moral, security, and diplomatic failure in an endless chain of failures.' Finally, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum urged US President Donald Trump to assist in securing a deal. 'You've already brought 39 hostages home. The window is still open – please don't let it close. Your leadership can make the difference.' On Thursday morning, the PMO confirmed that mediators had delivered Hamas's response to the Israeli negotiating team, and that the proposal was being examined. An Israeli official told The Jerusalem Post that Hamas's most recent response to the ceasefire proposal was 'better than the last,' and that the terror group was reviewing it.

Pakistan approves Skills Impact Bond for youth employment through private investment

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday approved Pakistan's first Skills Impact Bond, a new financing model aimed at mobilizing private investment to equip young people with market-relevant skills and improve their access to employment, both at home and abroad. The approval came during a high-level meeting in Islamabad focused on youth employment. According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, the initiative is part of a broader government effort to align vocational training with labor market demands and make Pakistani youth self-reliant through entrepreneurship and income-generating opportunities. The model, also known as 'pay-for-success,' links funding to independently verified outcomes such as job placement or minimum income levels. 'Pakistan's talented youth are the country's greatest asset,' the prime minister said at the meeting. 'By equipping them with education and skills tailored to market needs, we will transform the future of this nation.' Sharif instructed federal ministries and agencies to accelerate skills training, expand employment outreach through digital platforms and present a comprehensive roadmap based on estimates of domestic and overseas job opportunities for Pakistani youth. The prime minister approved a public awareness campaign to promote the use of the Digital Youth Hub, which has already registered over 500,000 users. The platform currently lists over 47,000 job openings in Pakistan and more than 100,000 overseas, along with 2,000 scholarship opportunities. He also emphasized preparing skilled workers specifically for international job markets and directed relevant departments to offer foreign language training for countries with high demand for labor.

Share your Malaysian moment: Government launches ‘Bersama Malaysiaku' national photo archive campaign

KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 — The government has launched the 'Bersama Malaysiaku' campaign in conjunction with the upcoming National Day celebrations, inviting the public to contribute to a national photo archive that celebrates everyday Malaysians. From today until September 30, Malaysians can participate by uploading their photos to the official campaign website. Selected entries will be featured across the Prime Minister's Office social media accounts, various government platforms, television broadcasts, and digital billboards nationwide. In a briefing today, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, senior press secretary to the prime minister, said the campaign invites Malaysians from all walks of life to submit photographs that capture moments of service, unity, and national pride. The initiative aims to spotlight the ordinary citizens whose daily contributions drive the country forward. 'This country was built by its people — from rice fields to skyscrapers. The progress we see today stems from the sacrifices and hard work of everyday Malaysians,' said Tunku Nashrul. 'The aim is to remind the nation that independence is not just a historic milestone, but an ongoing journey driven by all of us.' The campaign also complements the upcoming 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13), which Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to table in Parliament on July 31. 'The new plan outlines a vision for a compassionate, fair, and inclusive Malaysia, where every contribution — no matter how small — is recognised as part of the nation's development,' Tunku Nashrul added. As the nation enters the National Month, the government is calling on citizens to celebrate with 'a single image that carries a million meanings,' symbolising Malaysia's shared journey and future.

Netanyahu's corruption trial delayed over ‘food poisoning'

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will miss scheduled corruption hearings this week after being diagnosed with food poisoning, his office said on Sunday. The trial began in 2020 and involves charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust over allegations of influence peddling and accepting gifts. Netanyahu denies any wrongdoing, describing the case as a politically motivated campaign against him. According to officials, the 75-year-old prime minister fell ill overnight and was examined at home by his doctor. He was diagnosed with intestinal inflammation from eating 'spoiled food' and is receiving intravenous fluids for dehydration. His condition was described as good. 'In accordance with his doctors' instructions, the prime minister will rest at home for the next three days and will conduct state affairs from there,' the Prime Minister's Office stated. He also missed Sunday's weekly cabinet meeting due to the illness. Netanyahu's lawyer, Amit Hadad, requested the postponement, which the State Attorney's Office accepted, proposing testimony later in the week. The court, however, canceled all sessions, and with summer recess starting, the next hearing is not expected before September 5. The hearings have faced a number of delays due to Netanyahu's health issues, Israel's wars with Hamas and Iran, and diplomatic travel, according to Israeli media. In December 2024, he missed a session following a urinary tract infection caused by an enlarged prostate and reportedly underwent surgery. Last month, US President Donald Trump called for the proceedings be canceled, labeling the case a 'witch hunt.' Earlier in June, the US joined Israel's strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, claiming that Tehran was nearing the completion of a nuclear bomb. Iran denied the allegations and retaliated with attacks on Israel and a US base in Qatar.

M'sian Bar to hold peaceful walk to PMO in push for RCI

Bar members will be walking from the Palace of Justice to the Prime Minister's Office, a distance of some 2,600m. PETALING JAYA : The Malaysian Bar will be organising a peaceful walk next Monday over its call for a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into judicial appointments and alleged interference in the judiciary. According to a circular sighted by FMT, Bar members will gather at the Palace of Justice (POJ) at 2pm on July 14 to walk to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and hand over a memorandum. Bar president Ezri Abdul Wahab said despite the scheduling of an extraordinary general meeting on July 26 to discuss the issue, 'recent events have heightened the Bar's concerns'. Earlier today, the Attorney-General's Chambers rejected calls for an RCI and a parliamentary select committee to investigate alleged irregularities in judicial appointments, saying the situation did not amount to a constitutional crisis. It said any suggestion of a crisis was unfounded, and that discrepancies in timing or procedure related to appointments 'did not automatically amount to a constitutional crisis'. It was also previously reported that the Bar was applying for the release of minutes from the Judicial Appointments Commission's (JAC) meeting on May 16, following media reports that a senior judge was questioned over alleged interference in judicial affairs. FMT had reported that a senior judge was summoned by the JAC to answer allegations of interference in judicial appointments, dating back to last year. Among other matters, the Bar's memorandum calls for judicial leadership positions to be filled as soon as possible, the immediate release of the JAC meeting minutes and the establishment of the RCI. 'The POJ is not just a symbolic starting point; it is the very heart of our judicial system, from which justice is dispensed. 'Walking from the POJ to the PMO – a walk of some 2,600m – would demonstrate the commitment of the Malaysian Bar to judicial independence and integrity,' said Ezri in the circular.
