Princess Delphine of Belgium Just Majorly Defended Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

For those not fully up to speed on the royal family's drama, let's have a quick recap: back in January 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced they would be 'stepping down' from their roles as senior working members of the royal family, amid cruel stories about Meghan from the tabloids. Later, they headed off to start anew in California with their son, Archie, later joined by daughter Lilibet, explaining they wanted to live a less public-facing life. Following on from this, the couple embarked on a range of solo endeavors, from Prince Harry's tell-all book Spare (which was sadly less than complimentary about his family, notably his brother Prince William) to Meghan's lifestyle brand, As Ever. One key issue at the heart of the rift has been Harry's push to have his high-level security reinstated, something he lost access to after stepping down from his royal working life (and which he argued was unfair, as his personal risk as a public figure had not decreased, but which the courts ultimately did not support). This, Harry has explained on multiple occasions, is part of what stops him and Meghan from visiting the UK on a regular basis. Now, an unexpected royal has spoken up in defense of Meghan and Harry—and their security predicament—with Princess Delphine of Belgium airing her sympathies on the It's Reigning Men podcast, which discusses all-things royal. Speaking to host Daniel Rosney, Princess Delphine said, 'I think there is this thing about security. I think it's to do with what happened to his mother. I understand the guy. He's just traumatized.' She added, 'I understand, so he's doing these things, and everybody's bullying him, but not thinking about his trauma and I just find it terrible because he's just been kind of left.' The Princess also fondly recalled Prince Harry's late mother, Princess Diana, who she said was a 'part of my life when I was in England.' 'She had these children and everything, and then this death was just horrible,' Delphine, who is an artist and known for her fashion flair, expanded. 'Especially seeing these two children left by a very, I thought, natural, nice, normal motherly woman.' 'They lost such an important figure, and I feel very sorry for Harry because I think that was traumatic for him. William didn't have a choice. I think Harry suffered so much, and I think he was traumatized and it's coming out now.' Far from having an ordinary life herself, Delphine has also had a difficult experience with the press; growing up, she was seen as an illegitimate child of King Albert II, who had an affair with her mother. It took her two decades of fighting to be recognized by a DNA test, in order to prove her paternity. As you might imagine, after her story broke, the press intrusion was intense—much like it has been for Meghan and Harry. Elsewhere, it's said that King Charles' personal team had a productive conversation and with a member of staff for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, so perhaps there's a proper reconciliation to be had after all. (Photo by Max Mumby/Indigo/Getty Images) Unanticipated commentary has come forth regarding the years-long rift between Prince Harry and his family over the weekend. On a podcast episode, Princess Delphine of Belgium spoke on the ongoing dispute between the Royal Family in England, and the Prince and his wife Meghan Markle. She expressed sympathy towards Harry and reflected on the trauma he experienced with the loss of his mother. 'I think Harry suffered so much, and I think he was traumatised, and it's coming out now,' she commented. 'I think there's this thing with security, I think it's to do with what happened to his mother.' This refers to the legal battle which ensued between the Prince and the British government to have his and his family's state funded security reinstated, which he lost. He spoke on this recently, stating he 'can't see a world' in which he would bring his wife and children back to the country without official protection. 'I understand the guy,' Delphine stated. 'He's just traumatized. He's doing these things, and everybody's bullying him.' She went on to reflect that 'he's just been kind of left.' Years of legal battles eventually resulted in a DNA test in 2020 which confirmed she was the daughter of King Albert II of Belgium, after which she was given a royal title and began to attend public events with the family. The strain between the couple and his family only increased as the Prince and Markle went on to speak out on their experiences with the family in interviews, their Netflix docuseries, and in Harry's memoir Spare. However, recently, reports have emerged that members of Harry's and King Charles' teams have been meeting and seemingly taking the first steps to reconciliation. 'It was a good first step,' an insider commented to People . 'It is always better to be talking.

Princess of Belgium Defends Prince Harry Amid 'Terrible' Family Feud

Originally appeared on E! Online Princess Delphine is stepping up for Prince Harry. Amid the Duke of Sussex's ongoing fight for security clearance in the United Kingdom—five years after he and wife left the royal family—the Belgium princess expressed her empathy. 'I understand the guy, he's just traumatized,' Princess Delphine explained on the It's Reigning Men podcast July 15. 'He's doing these things and everyone is bullying him, but not thinking about his trauma and I just find it terrible because I feel like he's been kind of left.' Indeed, the 57-year-old—who was born out of an extramarital affair of King Albert II and spent years fighting for royal recognition until it was granted in 2020—posited that Harry, dad to Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, is still suffering from the 1997 death of his and Prince William's mother . 'She had these children and the death was just horrible,' Delphine continued. 'Especially seeing these two children, left by a really natural, nice, normal motherly woman. So they lost such an important figure and I feel very sorry for Harry because I think that was traumatic for him.' More from E! And while Harry lost his latest appeal for security clearance in May, Delphine argued that the legal system was not understanding of the 40-year-old's life experience. 'They say, 'Well he's a grown up now,'' she continued. 'You're never a grown up, you're still the child, even if you're 70 and you still have your parents, you're still the child.' The Belgium princess admitted that while she does not pay much attention to other royal family news, she has a soft spot for both Harry and William. As she put it, 'I feel very sort of protective of them because I feel like I grew up with them.' For his part, Harry has also expressed hope that he can end the longstanding feud between himself and his father, King Charles III, but his fight for security clearance has exacerbated the tension. 'He won't speak to me because of this security stuff,' Harry explained during a May interview with the BBC. 'But it would be nice to reconcile.' While Charles himself has yet to publicly extend his own olive branch, Harry's chief communications officer, Meredith Maines, was photographed July 13 with the king's communications secretary, Tobyn Andrae—signaling a public reconciliation could be brewing. Prince Harry Finds an Unexpected Royal Ally Amid Family Rift — He's 'Suffered So Much'

The tide is starting to turn in the royal family rift, and Prince Harry is getting support from unexpected places. Belgium's Princess Delphine offered up her thoughts on the situation on the July 15 episode of the It's Reigning Men podcast — and it sounds like some royals are tired of King Charles III and Prince William icing the Duke of Sussex out. More from SheKnows What Meghan Markle's Netflix Show Ranking Really Says About Its Future 'They lost such an important figure [with Princess Diana's death], and I feel very sorry for Harry because I think that was traumatic for him,' she shared. 'I think Harry suffered so much, and I think he was traumatized, and it's coming out now. I think there is this thing with security, I think it's to do with what happened to his mother.' She wasn't done, though; Delphine empathizes with how Harry has been left to figure life out on his own. 'I understand the guy,' the royal added. 'He's just traumatized. He's doing these things, and everybody's bullying him, but not thinking about his trauma, and I just find it terrible because I feel like he's just been kind of left.' There appears to be some movement in the family feud after the Sussexes' chief communications officer, Meredith Maines, and their PR representative in the U.K., Liam Maguire, met with the monarch's communications secretary, Tobyn Andreae, last week in London. The royal peace talks come after Harry admitted to the BBC in May that he 'would love a reconciliation' with his dad and older brother because he did 'not know how much longer [his] father has.' While the negotiations appear to be in the early stages of discussion, Delphine understands what it's like to be a palace outsider. She learned that her father was King Albert II of Belgium at the age of 18, but a lengthy legal battle and a confirmed January 2020 DNA test gave her the right to a royal title. Now, at the age of 57, the Belgian royal family regularly includes her in public appearances. It's unclear when the British royal family might be reunited, but a People source described it as a 'good first step.' And now that there is some public pressure coming from another royal family, it might push King Charles in the right of SheKnows 6 Sexy Celebrity-Owned Lingerie Lines, Made From Rihanna to Sofia Vergara 28 Lesbian Couples in Hollywood With Our Favorite Love Stories Every Single Look Kate Middleton Has Worn to Wimbledon Since 2007 Solve the daily Crossword
