Zelda Spinoff Age of Imprisonment Unravels Secrets Behind the Imprisoning War
A new trailer for Hyrule Warriors: The Age of Imprisonment was shown at the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase on Thursday -- the first look we've had of it since its debut back when the Nintendo Switch 2 was unveiled in April. Age of Imprisonment will take place far in the past to explain the events leading to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The video features Princess Zelda, King Rauru and other characters from the game, and it teases a mystery revolving around an animated suit of armor that could be used by Link. The Hyrule Warriors series is a crossover developed by Koei Tecmo and published by Nintendo. The spinoff started back in 2014 and was a mash-up between Koei Tecmo's popular Dynasty Warriors franchise, featuring Zelda characters with hack-and-slash gameplay. Unlike in the Zelda games, where the action is limited to a few enemies at a time, Hyrule Warriors has playable characters such as Zelda and Link fighting off waves of enemies at once, doing long combos and fighting giant monsters. The last installment of the spinoff series, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, came out in 2020 and acted as a prologue for the events of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Age of Imprisonment goes deep into the history of Hyrule to the Imprisoning War, a battle referenced in Tears of the Kingdom. The war was against an enemy known as the Demon King and involved the ancient Zonai race. Hyrule Warriors: The Age of Imprisonment is set to release sometime this winter for the Switch 2.

Hunter Schafer Eyed to Play Princess Zelda in Nintendo's Live-Action THE LEGEND OF ZELDA Adventure Movie — GeekTyrant
There's already a lot of anticipation surrounding The Legend of Zelda live-action movie, and now a new rumor has just kicked the fan excitment into overdrive. According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Cuckoo and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes star Hunter Schafer is reportedly being eyed for the role of Princess Zelda. Schafer's name has been floating around fantasy fan-casting circles for a while now, the actor has a strong résumé with roles in Euphoria , Kinds of Kindness , and now possibly even X-Men , as Schafer is also rumored to be in the mix to play Mystique in Marvel Studios' reboot. The live-action Legend of Zelda movie was officially announced by Nintendo in November 2023, with none other than Shigeru Miyamoto sharing the news himself. He revealed that he's working on the project alongside Spider-Man producer Avi Arad. That last part raised a few eyebrows, understandably, given Arad's inconsistent track record, but it's hard to ignore the sheer weight of the talent involved. The movie is being directed by Wes Ball ( The Maze Runner, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes ), who will reportedly tackle this project before returning to Planet of the Apes sequels. Detective Pikachu and Jurassic World writer Derek Connolly is scripting it, and the whole thing is a Nintendo/Sony Pictures co-production. The film is scheduled to hit theaters March 26, 2027, just one week after Sonic the Hedgehog 4 . So, SEGA and Nintendo are about to square off again, this time in theaters. So, what does this mean for Zelda herself? Schafer could be stepping into one of the most iconic roles in gaming history. Princess Zelda is no one-note royal, she's been everything from a captive to a warrior to a literal ninja in disguise. Most recently, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom have shown her as a more independent and layered character, and a casting like Schafer would definitely signal that the film isn't looking for a passive damsel. The Legend of Zelda franchise began back in 1986 and has since become one of the most beloved and enduring video game series ever made. Created by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, the games follow Link as he journeys across Hyrule to rescue Princess Zelda and stop the villainous Ganon. It's a classic good vs. evil fantasy tale, but one filled with mythology, emotional depth, and a surprising amount of mystery and philosophy, especially in its later entries. Nintendo clearly sees the cinematic potential here, especially after the wild success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie , which pulled in over $1.3 billion at the global box office. With Zelda, there's an opportunity to go deeper, less slapstick, more epic quest. What do you think about Schafer taking on the role of Princess Zelda?

The Legend of Zelda Movie Allegedly Eyeing Hunter Schaferor as Princess Zelda
It's been pitched before, but it looks like the studios could be taking it seriously this time. According to a rumor from @DanielRPK (via @screentime), Euphoria star Hunter Schafer is being eyed to play the role of Princess Zelda in the upcoming The Legend of Zelda movie directed by Wes Ball. So far, not other cast members have been rumored, but Schafer has been fancast for a while, seeing that she does fit the look of Princess Zelda very well, and it would be a huge move to have a central character in a major franchise played by a trans woman. Admittedly, Schafer has been public about not getting boxed into trans roles, and getting cast as Zelda may be the perfect part for her. We know she already looks the part, but we've yet to really watch her play someone like Zelda who is expected to exude poise and grace—then again, that depends on which kind of Zelda they're adapting. As expected, there are already a lot of transphobic comments coming out about Schafer landing the part, and hopefully Sony and Nintendo will be ready to protect Schafer should they move forward with the casting. As someone whose been a big fan of Schafer since Euphoria , I'm really up for the casting; and I hope she manages to land this role as well as the part of the next Mystique when Marvel Studios is ready to reboot X-Men . The Legend of Zelda movie is expected to hit theaters on March 26, 2027.
