Carole and Michael Middleton were 'hugely dedicated' parents and 'sacrificed' a lot for their children growing up, Kate remembers

As a parent to three children herself, Catherine, Princess of Wales knows just how much effort it can take - which is why she's always quick to praise her own parents for everything they "sacrificed" for her, sister Pippa Middleton and brother James growing up. The close relationship between Kate and her parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, is one that's only got stronger over the years. Carole has always been Kate's 'rock' and it was suggested that being closer to Michael and Carole in Berkshire was one factor that inspired Prince William and Kate's family move to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor. And it's easy to see why Kate continues to lean on her parents, as she talked lovingly of how "dedicated" the pair were while appearing on Giovanna Fletcher's Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast in 2020. Catherine, the Princess of Wales: A Revelatory Biography of the Future Queen by Robert Jobson | Was $29.95, Now $11.45 at Amazon This biography of the Princess of Wales explores how she became the woman she is today. Author Robert Jobson has spoken to sources on and off the record in the Royal Household and reflects on her beginnings and role as the future Queen Deal The Princess of Wales reflected upon her idyllic childhood, explaining how Carole and Michael "sacrificed" their free time to cheer them on at all their sporting events. "I had a very happy childhood. It was great fun. I'm very lucky I come from a very strong family. My parents were hugely dedicated," Kate shared. "I really appreciate now as a parent how much they sacrificed for us. They came to every sports match, they'd be the ones on the side-line shouting, and we'd always have our family holidays together." It seems that since becoming a mom herself, Kate has come to value Carole and Michael's unwavering commitment to supporting their children's hobbies in a slightly different way. Kate's memories of playing matches and seeing Carole and Michael Middleton on the side-lines cheering have clearly had a huge impact upon her. She's been pictured attending one of Prince George's football matches before and has often discussed her children's favourite hobbies. During a different podcast appearance in 2023, Kate also revealed that her well-known love of sports come from her parents' support and encouragement. "I suppose as a family we were just very active. And I can always remember being physical, using our bodies, whether it's walking, climbing the lake district in Scotland [or] swimming from a young age," she said on The Good, The Bad & The Rugby podcast. "[My parents] always encouraged us to be physically active and sporty and they always encouraged us into doing team sports and trying things." William and Kate seem to be continuing this tradition, as we already know Prince George is proving to be an ace on the tennis court, having had a lesson from Roger Federer, and Princess Charlotte is a massive fan of ballet. Whilst the Princess of Wales seems to be taking a similar approach to her parents, their decision to be there at every sports match isn't the only sacrifice they've made. Writing previously in the Mail on Sunday's You magazine, Kate Mansey claimed that while the public "may not have noticed", Carole allegedly accompanied the Waleses on their tour of Australia and New Zealand in 2014 so she could "help with Prince George". If this is correct then Carole selflessly spent three weeks away from home to assist with childcare and as she was believed to have still been running her former business, Party Pieces, day-to-day. This was such a heartfelt gesture from Carole and one that was likely very much appreciated by the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Kate Middleton avoids answering personal questions with brilliant trick

Kate Middleton and her fellow royals are forever meeting 'normal' people under the gaze of the public eye - but a clever way she avoids personal questions has been revealed Kate Middleton and Prince William are famously vigilant when it comes to safeguarding the privacy of their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, yet they occasionally share charming snippets about the young royals' lives. Whether it's Prince William conveying Princess Charlotte's boast to the England Lionesses about her goalkeeping prowess or Kate sharing little Louis' words following the Queen's passing, the couple have let slip some delightful anecdotes. Yet Kate actually has a very clever way of avoiding personal questions in public to avoid revealing too much about her family's lives. The story was revealed by actor Rami Malek, who once hilariously offered to babysit for the royal pair. ‌ ‌ Chatting on Jimmy Kimmel's US TV show, he reminisced about his chat with the Princess of Wales at the 2019 BAFTAs, where he snagged the best actor award for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. At that time, the royal duo had just welcomed their third child, Prince Louis, and Rami seemed to surprise Kate with his rather personal enquiry. On the talk show, he recounted: "The funniest thing about that was, I said, 'If you ever need a day off, some time off, I'm back-up for you.'" He continued, revealing Kate's reaction: "She's like, 'What do you mean?' I go, 'I can babysit, you guys go out, have a good time.'" And he explained how he then brought up Prince Louis' birth, asking Kate: "'You just had a baby, right?' I think she was taken aback." But Rami then revealed what Kate did to deflect the question, by turning the conversation back to him and asking how he was instead. He revealed: "She said, 'How are you doing?'" [I'm like,] 'No, how are you?' And in the most regal, elegant way, she gave me a look. But you can tell. Imagine, you're dressed to the nines, have to talk to all these actors." Describing the royals' meticulous care during their interactions, Rami observed: "They're so careful. But it was so cool. I think I caught her off guard for a second. And, you know, had that look of – in the most elegant, professional, royal way – 'Yes, it's a lot, having a kid.'" ‌ It seems the Prince and Princess of Wales appreciated his frank approach, as Prince William later extended an invitation to him to co-host the previous Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony in Boston. Rami isn't alone in admiring The Princess of Wales – actress Reese Witherspoon also lauded the royal's grace and professionalism in her personal memoir, Whiskey in a Teacup. ‌ Recalling the day she met Kate, Reese explained: "I was up at 4am doing my hair. That's early, even for me. I was up, dressed and waiting by the door by 7am. Jim took pictures of me in the car. You can see rays of happiness shooting out of my face. I love Kate Middleton that much. "And she did not disappoint! She was just lovely and warm, elegant and composed. She also told a joke, and I immediately fell under her spell. She's just as magnificent as she seems to be. She's a very compassionate, socially conscious, deeply caring person. It takes a very special person to decide to commit to that kind of life."

Kate returns to royal garden parties in surprise appearance at Palace

The Princess of Wales has made a return to royal garden parties by attending her first one in two years. Kate surprised guests by joining husband the Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday afternoon. William, dressed in a top hat and morning suit, was hosting the traditional outdoor gathering on behalf of his father, the King. The princess, who is in remission from cancer, missed the 2024 garden party season while undergoing treatment during what William described as a 'brutal' year. Kate, whose attendance was not announced in advance as is the custom for garden parties, was dressed in a yellow Emilia Wickstead dress and hat by Philip Treacy. The couple were meeting guests from a number of their patronages, military affiliations and passion projects, including Homewards, Action for Children and Ty Hafan, as well as Duchy of Cornwall tenants. Among them was the family of aspiring photographer Liz Hatton, who died in November from an aggressive cancer called desmoplastic small round cell tumour. The 17-year-old, from Harrogate, North Yorkshire, was pictured being hugged by Kate at Windsor Castle just weeks before she died after being invited to take pictures of William at an investiture. Her mother Vicky, stepfather Aaron and brother Mateo, who have launched a charity called Capture in her honour to support people with the illness, were among those in the grounds of the Palace. Also at the event were William's cousins, Princess Eugenie and Zara Tindall, with Kensington Palace saying the prince and princess had specially invited the younger generation of the royal family to accompany them. Other attendees included Holocaust survivor Steven Frank, who was photographed by Kate in 2020 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of the Holocaust, and fundraising youngster Tony Hudgell. Ten-year-old Tony, who is a double amputee and previously met Kate at the Evelina London Children's Day Surgery Unit, missed a garden party last year after getting stuck in traffic on his way there, prompting another invitation from the Palace this year. Kate last appeared at a royal garden party in May 2023, just days after the King's coronation when the social event was staged in celebration of the historic occasion. Some 7,500 guests mingled in the spring sunshine on the neatly manicured lawn of the royal residence on Tuesday, as William, Kate and other members of the royal family stood on the West Terrace for the National Anthem. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester were also present. The official engagement marks another step in Kate's gradual return to post-cancer public duties. Garden parties have been held at Buckingham Palace since the 1860s when Queen Victoria began what were known as 'breakfasts', although they took place in the afternoon. Guests queue in tea tents and take their seats on nearby chairs, and around 27,000 cups of tea, 20,000 sandwiches and 20,000 slices of cake are consumed at each party. Yeomen of the Guard, dressed in their red and gold ceremonial costumes, form part of the proceedings, and people are free to stroll around the vast expanse of the gardens while a military band plays background music.

The rise of the Royal monochromatic wardrobe - and the family member behind the trend as Beatrice and Sophie follow suit writes ELIZA SCARBOROUGH

In the world of royal fashion, trends may come and go, but one style principle has proven itself a steadfast favourite among the Firm's most fashion-savvy women: The monochromatic wardrobe. Opting for the same tried-and-tested silhouette in a variety of flattering shades, the royals are showing that when it comes to dressing for duty, consistency is key. It's the ultimate embodiment of the age-old adage, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. From the Princess of Wales to the Duchess of Edinburgh, a growing number of royal women are quietly embracing a fashion formula that combines elegance with efficiency. A longstanding fan of classic cuts and demure tailoring, the Duchess of Edinburgh stepped out for the Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day in an ice-blue version of the 'Yahvi' dress by one of her most trusted labels Beulah London. But this wasn't the first time she had worn the style. It was the fourth. The same design has appeared on her in yellow, cream and coral, and for good reason. It's flattering, appropriate, and photograph-friendly, three things no royal ensemble can afford to compromise on. This clever capsule approach to fashion is a style trick Sophie seems to have learned from none other than the Princess of Wales, arguably the reigning monarch of monochromatic dressing. Chief among her favourites is the timeless Emilia Wickstead 'Kate' dress which was named after her. The Princess of Wales is said to have loved the original design so much that she commissioned versions in navy, lavender and olive green. The result? A streamlined wardrobe that exudes sophistication while reinforcing a cohesive, recognisable royal image. Princess Beatrice, known for her fashion evolution in recent years, has also embraced this styling trick and has been spotted in various Beulah London dresses, following the formula of a similar cut repeated in a spectrum of colours. Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh A royal favourite? The Duchess of Edinburgh opted for her go-to dress when attending the Service of Thanksgiving on VE Day. Her ice blue version of Beulah London's 'Yahvi' design has become a winning formula for the stylish royal thanks to its long sleeves with fluted cuffs, A-line skirt and fitted bodice, making it a sophisticated, timeless piece that works in countless settings. For last year's Trooping the Colour she chose to wear the dress in sunshine yellow, which she matched with a coordinating Jane Taylor hat and previous to that she wore the design in coral for the Orbis Visionaries Reception at Abbey Road Studios in 2024. The style was first debuted at a pre-Coronation reception at Buckingham Palace in 2023 in cream and all of the colourways have since been recycled and worn countless times. Catherine, Princess of Wales Long-sleeved and belted at the waist, Emilia Wickstead's 'Kate' dress was first spotted in lavender in October 2018 when Catherine attended the Global Ministerial Mental Health Summit in London. Less than a year later an olive green version of the bespoke gown was worn to open the Anna Freud Centre in London, although the neckline had been slightly modified. Next was navy in November 2019 when the Princess of Wales attended the launch of the National Emergencies Trust. For Princess Charlotte's christening in 2015, Catherine looked pristine in an ivory Alexander McQueen coat dress. A few years later for Harry and Meghan's royal wedding celebrations it looked very similar but was actually in a pale shade of primrose yellow. Later, proving that a classic cut can stand the test of time, she donned the same piece but this time in pale blue to attend the Westminster Abbey service for the Centenary of the Royal Air Force in July 2018. The elegant longline coat dress has become one of Kate's most relied upon fashion styles, which was first adopted by Princess Diana in the 1980s. A cross over bodice design with neat lapels, nipped in waist and flared skirt by Emilia Wickstead has become a firm favourite of Catherine's. Looking radiant in a pale blue version, Kate attended the Easter Sunday Service in 2022 in the flattering silhouette. Next was a bold shade of deep coral pink with a coordinating Jane Taylor fascinator for the 2022 Buckingham Palace garden party and most recently it was seen again in burgundy for the VE Day Memorial with a slightly higher neckline and longer hemline but the same nipped in waist and full skirt. Since becoming Princess of Wales, Kate has perfected the art of power dressing, repeatedly turning to her trusty Alexander McQueen trouser suit in a rainbow of colours. Flatteringly cropped at the ankle, the tailored trousers and matching single-breasted jacket have become Kate's alternative to the fitted dresses of the past. She first chose a crisp white version in March 2022 during a Jamaica tour. A few months later it was pretty in pink for Catherine for a meeting she hosted with the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood. In November 2022 when arriving in Boston the suit was repeated in navy for a formal take on the tailoring, and most recently teal was the colour of choice for Kate's wardrobe essential as she stepped out to open the Evelina London Children's Day Surgery Unit. Princess Beatrice This structured dress boasts puffy shoulders and a wide belt cinched at the waist, together with buttons along the front as well as on the cuffs. Princess Beatrice is clearly a fan of Beulah London's best-selling 'Ahana' style as she owns it in three colourways. First debuted during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in icy blue, it was later replaced by a teal version for the Variety Club Awards ceremony a few months later in November 2022. At the Princess of Wales' Together at Christmas carol concert in 2023 Beatrice chose the style with a festive twist in navy and emerald green tartan.

‘The Lion King' is concluding its run in Toronto, but there's still time to catch the beloved musical this summer

The bad news: Disney's 'The Lion King' is officially concluding its Toronto run. The good news: Theatre fans can still catch the critically acclaimed musical at the Princess of Wales Theatre until the end of August. On Tuesday, producers David and Hannah Mirvish announced that the Disney juggernaut will conclude on Aug. 30. By that date, the production will have been performed 345 times to an estimated audience of over a quarter-million. 'We take great pride in the current Toronto production of 'The Lion King,'' David Mirvish said in a statement, which noted that the vast majority of professionals employed by the production are Canadian. 'The talent both on and off the Princess of Wales stage is exemplary. They represent a new generation of artists and artisans, some of whom were not even born when the original Toronto production was staged in 2000.' ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW Directed by Julie Taymor and featuring music and lyrics by Elton John and Tim Rice, 'The Lion King' musical debuted on Broadway nearly 30 years ago and still runs there today. The latest Canadian production — it's the second time the musical has been produced by the Mirvish family — arrived at the Princess of Wales Theatre last November and was met with critical acclaim. Stage Review 'The Lion King' is the most anti-Disney show ever. This thrilling new Mirvish production proves why that's a good thing Joshua Chong Star theatre critic Joshua Chong called the production 'the most anti-Disney show ever.' '('The Lion King') offers a glimpse not only of what Disney once was, but also of what it could be,' Chong wrote. '(A) show derived from nothing except the timeless theatrical impulse to stimulate the imagination.' Mirvish also announced a 'relaxed performance' of the 'The Lion King' taking place on Aug. 1, which is designed to provide an accessible and welcoming environment for all audiences. In September, the Princess of Wales Theatre will be taken over by the Toronto International Film Festival, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this fall. Critic's Notebook Here's what to expect from Toronto theatres in 2025-26: More American shows, the return of two icons and second chances Joshua Chong If you can't make it out this summer, fret not: there are currently eight productions of 'The Lion King' taking place across the world, from Paris to Tokyo to Mexico City. 'I was a teenager when the original production began,' Hannah Mirvish wrote in a statement. 'It was incredible to see that show as an audience member. But the experience and thrill of working on this production is even bigger. It's everything I could have hoped for and more.'
