El Paso registered sex offender arrested for allegedly kidnapping, sexually abusing woman

An El Paso registered sex offender was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and sexually abusing a woman, authorities said. El Paso deputies began investigating a report of unlawful restraint and assault about 4:30 p.m., July 23, after a woman reported she had been kidnapped by a man and sexually abused, El Paso County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Priscilla I. Contreras said in a news release. An investigation identified the suspect as 68-year-old Lorenzo Davila of El Paso, the news release states. Eduardo Solis, attorney for Davila, could not immediately be reached for comment. Davila allegedly kidnaps, sexually abuses woman The woman told deputies she was kidnapped by a man and taken to the man's house in an unknown desert area in the Horizon City area, the news release states. Jail records list the date of the alleged assault as July 22. Davila allegedly assaulted the woman after she refused his sexual advances. The woman was able to escape and flagged down a passerby, who brought her home safely. More: Video shows El Paso man allegedly abusing dog; charges follow The case was turned over to El Paso County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division detectives because of the limited information at the time, the news release states. Detectives conducted a "thorough investigation" and identified Davila as the suspect, the news release states. The investigation revealed Davila is a registered sex offender with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Davila for aggravated kidnapping with sexual abuse. More: Man sought in Wells Fargo ATM fraud thefts across El Paso Deputies arrested Davila about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, after "an extensive search" near a relative's house in the 13000 block of Grand River Drive near Sparks, the news release states. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the El Paso County Jail on a $220,000 bond. He remains jailed as of Tuesday, Aug. 5, jail logs show. Davila convicted of sexual assault in Midland Davila was arrested for sexually assaulting a woman and slapping her multiple times as an act of revenge against her husband in 2014, the Midland Reporter-Telegram reported. Davila was convicted on two counts of sexual assault of a 45-year-old woman in 2015, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety's Sex Offender Registry. The registry does not state what sentence Davila received. Midland County court records were not immediately available. The registry states Davila was out on parole and under mandatory supervision. A freeway police chase started in New Mexico and continued across El Paso before ending in an arrest in the Eastlake area over the weekend, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office said. Javier Antonio Monzon, 32, of El Paso, was wanted in New Mexico in connection with a robbery and an aggravated fleeing charge, stated a sheriff's news release by spokeswoman Priscilla I. Contreras. Sheriff's deputies and Precinct 1 Constable deputies assisted in stopping the vehicle on I-10 East near the Eastlake exit, sheriff's officials stated. Monzon was arrested on a felony charge of evading arrest in a vehicle and remains held on a $100,000 bond at the El Paso County Jail in Downtown as of Monday, July 28. Dog shot by El Paso police, officer bitten A dog was fatally shot after biting an El Paso police officer during a family disturbance at a Lower Valley home last week, a police spokesman confirmed. The officer-involved shooting took place about 6 p.m. on July 22 when police responded to a "verbal domestic violence call" in the 8800 block of Joe Kennedy Way, Officer Adrian Cisneros, a police spokesman, stated in an email. The breed of dog was not specified in the police report, Cisneros said. Crime of the Week: Shotgun-armed carjackers take vehicle El Paso police seek to identify two men who used a shotgun in a carjacking on the West Side last month. The unsolved case is Crime Stoppers of El Paso's Crime of the Week. The victims allowed the two men into a car — a light blue 2008 Chrysler 300 — for unspecified reasons before the men brandished a shotgun and ordered them out of the car at 3 p.m. on June 19 at the intersection of El Camino Drive and Glendora Lane near Resler Drive, Crime Stoppers liaison Sgt. Javier Sambrano said in a news release. The carjackers left in the Chrysler. Crime Stoppers said that investigators discovered one of the suspects was captured on security camera footage at a nearby convenience store. He was described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall, about 190 pounds with a medium build and a goatee. He wore a Mexico soccer jersey and blue basketball shorts. The second man, who was wearing a hot pink T-shirt and denim shorts, was about the same height but was described as overweight with a beard and a tattoo on his right arm.
