'Saw a big flame as high as tree, & someone on fire': Eyewitnesses recount Colorado attack horror

Man who attacked the Pro-Israeli protesters (Left) and Eye witnesses Av Kornfeld and Ed Victor (Right) Eyewitnesses shared harrowing details of an attack in Colorado where a suspect used a "makeshift flamethrower" and threw Molotov cocktails that burned six victims during a march in support of Israeli hostages. The FBI described the incident "targeted terror attack." Ed Victor, a participant in the Run For Their Lives' walk, explained that these silent marches have occurred weekly since the Hamas attack of October 7, 2023, aiming to highlight the situation of hostages in Gaza. The group, comprising approximately 30 people that Sunday, regularly pauses at the courthouse to engage in songs, storytelling and recitation of hostages' names. According to Victor, while the marchers occasionally face verbal opposition, they maintain their peaceful procession along Pearl Street without responding. He noted that passersby often show support through applause, nods or expressions of gratitude. The possibility of a physical attack had never crossed his mind. "So we stood up, lined up in front of the old Boulder courthouse, and I was actually on the far west side. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Top Trending local enterprise accounting software [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo And there was somebody there that I didn't even notice, although he was making a lot of noise, but I'm just focused on my job of being quiet and getting lined up. And, from my point of view, all of a sudden, I felt the heat. It was a Molotov cocktail equivalent, a gas bomb in a glass jar, thrown. Av [another marcher] saw it, a big flame as high as a tree, and all I saw was someone on fire," he told to CBS News. Witness describes scene of Pearl Street Mall attack Victor described their efforts to extinguish the fire. while a marcher with medical expertise attended to the injured woman, Victor remained with her husband to provide support. He mentioned that volunteers quickly arrived with water to assist. "I saw the aftermath," said street performer Peter Irish. "It was like minutes after. I came out, it was chaos, people were writhing on the ground. It was traumatic to watch, to be honest with you. It was chaos." 'I saw this big fire go up' Another witness said that she noticed a disturbance near the courthouse while taking her lunch break on Pearl Street. Concerned about potential violence, she decided to investigate the situation. "I saw this big fire go up," Brooke Coffman informed NBC affiliate KUSA of Denver. She immediately contacted emergency services whilst moving towards the incident. She observed two women in their undergarments who had removed their burning attire, displaying severe burns on their legs. A third woman nearby, also with leg burns, was crying out in pain. Coffman became emotional whilst describing one of the women's appearances, noting that the flames had consumed her hair, making her face difficult to recognise. "It just wasn't a good scene," Coffman said. "I know it's Boulder, it's Pearl Street, some stuff happens ... but you just don't really think it's going to happen right here, you don't think it's something you're going to see, so many people hurt," Coffman said. 'There were people who were burning' Lynn Segal, 72, who was among the roughly 20 participants, described seeing a 'rope of fire' shoot in front of her, followed by 'two big flares.' 'There were people who were burning, I wanted to help,' Segal said. 'But I didn't want to be associated with the perpetrator.'She shared that while she supports Palestine and was wearing a pro-Palestine shirt, she feared she might be mistaken as being connected to the attacker. The police have identified the suspect as Mohamed Sabry Solimanw. He as allegedly heard yelling "Free Palestine" while using a "makeshift flamethrower" and throwing an incendiary device at the crowd, according to Special Agent in Charge Mark Michalek.

Israel given new hope of blocking ICC arrest warrants

Live updates: Follow the latest on Israel-Gaza Israel was on Thursday given new hope of blocking arrest warrants issued by a war crimes court in The Hague against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defence minister Yoav Gallant. Judges at the International Criminal Court say Israel can challenge its jurisdiction to try the allegations, with Mr Netanyahu's government arguing it has no right to take the case. "The court has no jurisdiction over Israel", Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said after Thursday's decision. ICC prosecutor Karim Khan applied last May for arrest warrants against Mr Netanyahu, Mr Gallant, and three senior Hamas figures who are all now dead. He alleges that the Israeli leadership used "starvation as a method of warfare" as part of the offensive in Gaza. Pro-Israeli lawyers have told the court that Israel has "sole criminal jurisdiction" over its citizens in Palestine under the terms of the 1990s Oslo Accords. Others say that's irrelevant and that Palestine's membership in the ICC means judges can hear the case relating to Gaza. ICC judges granted the warrants in November and dismissed Israel's appeal on jurisdiction. However, an appeals chamber ruled on Thursday that this was an "error of law" which "failed to sufficiently address Israel's argument" concerning the court's rules. The appeal judges "remanded the matter to the pre-trial chamber for a new ruling on the substance of Israel's challenge to the jurisdiction", a statement from the court said. "On this topic, there is only one correct answer: the Court has no jurisdiction over Israel," Mr Saar said. "The warrants were issued unlawfully. They are null and void." Israel denies committing war crimes during an offensive in Gaza that has resulted in more Mr Netanyahu has avoided arrest by travelling to friendly countries such as Hungary or others such as the US who are not members of the court. Debate has raged in other nations such as Britain and Germany, torn between their sympathies with Israel and their commitments to uphold international law. The ICC was set up in 2002 as the world's first permanent war crimes court, meant to replace one-off tribunals such as those that tried Nazi officials or Serb commanders during the Yugoslav wars. It has only ever convicted 11 people, none of them from western countries or their allies.

Gal Gadot's Hollywood walk of fame ceremony disrupted by Pro-Israeli and Pro-Palestinian protesters

ALBAWABA - Gal Gadot's Walk of Fame ceremony faced intense protests. Pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian protestors disrupted Israeli actor Gal Gadot's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony on Tuesday, delaying it and prompting a police response. Several dozen protesters gathered before the ceremony for the Wonder Woman star, as she is a vocal supporter of the Israeli military. According to Variety, pro-Palestinian demonstrators carried posters reading "Heroes Fight Like Palestinians," "Viva Viva Palestina," and "No Other Land Won Oscar," all referring to the documentary on Israeli intrusions into Palestinian land in the West Bank that received the award for best documentary this month. Variety writer Katcy Stephan shared a video of demonstrators yelling "shame on Gal Gadot" on X. Another image showed several demonstrators handcuffed by police. The people were also shouting, "Up up with liberation, down down with occupation," in addition to "not another nickel, not another dime, no more money for Israel's crime." According to Variety, about two dozen protesters gathered on each side. Protesters could still be heard as the hearings began, and police were summoned after a pro-Palestinian demonstrator stole an Israeli flag. Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen in Disney's live-action Snow White, served in the Israeli military and has publicly supported Israel since the 7 October terrorist attacks and subsequent invasion of Gaza, both on social media and in an impassioned speech before the Anti-Defamation League's annual summit on March 4. "Never did I imagine that on the streets of the United States and different cities around the world, we would see people not condemning Hamas but celebrating, justifying, and cheering on a massacre of Jews," she remarked when she spoke. Speaking to Variety ahead of Tuesday's celebration, Gadot said how she became more forthright with her politics during the Hamas-led attack on Israeli citizens on October 7, 2023. "When people were abducted from their homes, from their beds—men, women, children, the elderly, and Holocaust survivors—were going through the horrors of what happened that day; I could not be silent," she told me. "I was astounded by the amount of hatred, how much people believe they know when they really don't, and how often the media is unfair. So I needed to speak up." Regarding criticism of her stances, she stated, "When your compass is clear, your conscience is clean." I know what I'm advocating for and what I want for the world. During her ceremony, Gadot avoided the subject, instead thanking Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins and Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel and referring to herself as "just a girl from a town in Israel." The demonstrations come ahead of Snow White's opening weekend, which has been fraught with controversy in the weeks preceding its release. Speculation of a schism between Gadot and co-star Rachel Zegler, who is strongly pro-Palestine, arose when Disney shortened last weekend's world premiere, limiting interviews to in-house, talent-friendly press. Zegler has also come under fire for publicly disparaging the original 1937 version of Snow White and wishing on Instagram that Donald Trump and his supporters "know no peace" following the November election. She has since apologized. Gadot is not the only Disney celebrity who has received criticism for her views on the Israel-Palestine conflict. Last month, several dozen pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered outside the Hollywood premiere of Captain America: Brave New World, asking for a boycott of the film due to the presence of Israeli superhero Ruth Bat-Seraph, AKA Sabra, played by Israeli actress Shira Haas. They brandished placards with inscriptions like "Disney Supports Genocide." In a joint letter, numerous Palestinian cultural groups stated that "by reviving this racist character in any form, Marvel is promoting Israel's brutal oppression of Palestinians."

Several dozen protesters gathered ahead of the ceremony for the Wonder Woman star, who is an outspoken supporter of the Israeli military. According to Variety, pro-Palestinian protesters held signs that read Viva Viva Palestina and No Other Land Won Oscar - a reference to the documentary that won the award for best documentary this month. The demonstrations delayed the ceremony by about 15 minutes. Gadot stars opposite Rachel Zegler in Snow White. Zegler has stirred controversy with her public support for Palestinians. Even before the current conflict, Zegler had posted numerous tweets and Instagram stories calling for an end to violence and supporting Palestinian human rights. Rumours of a frosty relationship between the pair have been doing the rounds since filming wrapped.
