WVU Tech professor finalist for Professor of the Year Award
BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Professor John 'JT' Hird is a finalist for this year's Professor of the Year Award.
WVU Tech hosts regional math field day
The Faculty Merit Foundation of West Virginia accepts nominations of outstanding faculty members from colleges and universities throughout West Virginia.
Professor Hird teaches mathematics at WVU Tech and serves as an advisor for several campus organizations including Golden Bear E-sports and Golden Bear Outdoor Expedition.
Professor Hird said if he's chosen as the 2024 Professor of the Year nothing much will change for him.
'I'm living the dream. So, for my career, I'm gonna keep teaching. This is just a sign that apparently, I'm doing the right thing and I'm doing it well. So, it would be nice to get that respect, but, yeah, it's just more signs that I need to keep doing what I'm doing,' said Hird.
Professor Hird credited his adaptive teaching style and work with on campus groups for the nomination.
He said he has been able to develop one-on-one relationships with the students and that it has allowed him to become a professor that students feel they can rely on.
Professor Hird said he appreciates the nomination and no matter what the results, he will continue to provide the best education he can to the students at WVU Tech.
