Mizoram gets its first Health ATMs
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Aizawl, Aug 18 (PTI) In a landmark initiative in public healthcare, 'Health ATMs' were inaugurated at two medical establishments in Mizoram on Monday, an official said. The 'Health ATMs', equipped with modern diagnostic tools, will enable citizens to instantly get their vital health parameters such as blood pressure, blood sugar, BMI and oxygen levels checked by health officials. The facilities were unveiled at Lunglei Civil Hospital and Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Lungsen village under the district administration's 'Healthy Lunglei Initiative', Health Minister Lalrinpuii said. The Health ATMs will offer 35 varieties of diagnostic tests, covering general health, diabetes, hematology, cardiac, ear, eye, and mental health parameters, officials said. These include vital checks such as blood pressure, blood sugar, BMI, ECG, lipid profile, vision and hearing assessments, as well as a depression and anxiety screening tool, they said. A personalised diet plan feature is also available to support preventive healthcare, they said. All tests can be done free of cost in less than half an hour, with instant results delivered directly to the user's mobile phone. Besides the health minister, Lunglei High Powered Committee vice chairman and MLA V Malsawmtluanga, Lunglei South MLA Lalramliana Papuia, Lunglei Municipal Council chairman and councillors, representatives of companies, churches and NGOs, party leaders and students attended the inaugural event. Speaking on the occasion, Lalrinpuii described the occasion of launching Mizoram's first 'Health ATMs' as a 'proud and historic moment" for the state. She highlighted the progress made under the 'Healthy Lunglei' campaign, launched in June 2024, which has expanded preventive healthcare through screenings, awareness drives, and active community participation. Speaking on the 'Health ATMs', she said the IoT-enabled kiosks will generate digital health records for timely follow-up, helping bridge the gap between rural and urban healthcare facilities while reducing time and cost for patients. Lalrinpuii also commended the Lunglei deputy commissioner's office for holistic public health initiatives such as Project LEAP (for Persons with Disabilities) and Project BLOOM (focused on improving maternal and child health in Lungsen aspirational block). She thanked MVS India, ABCI Infrastructures Pvt Ltd, and BRN for their CSR support and collaboration, calling the project 'a shining example of government, private sector, and civil society working together to achieve lasting change". Lunglei Deputy Commissioner Navneet Mann gave a brief description of the Health ATM initiative and other activities under the Healthy Lunglei District Campaign. The Health ATM initiative was made possible following a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Manav Vikas Sanstha (MVS India), Lunglei DC's office and ABCI Infrastructures Pvt Ltd, officials said. Under the MoU, ABCI and BRN funded the procurement and maintenance of the Health ATMs through its CSR programme, while the MVS India was responsible for installation, training and technical support, they said. The DC's office will provide administrative facilitation and ensure sustainability. With the introduction of Health ATMs, Lunglei district has taken a pioneering step in integrating technology into healthcare delivery, improving access to preventive services, and strengthening the vision of a Healthy Lunglei, officials added. They said that the installation of a Health ATM at PHC Lungsen is expected to greatly strengthen ongoing health initiatives to improve health indicators under the NITI Aayog's aspirational blocks programme in Lungsen block. Mizoram Governor General (retd) Vijay Kumar Singh visits Lunglei
Aizawl (Mizoram) [India], August 8 (ANI): Mizoram Governor, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), visited Lunglei District on Friday and engaged with senior Government officials, Non-Governmental Organisations, Church leaders and Ex-Servicemen, said a press statement. He also visited the 20 Assam Rifles Headquarters, where he interacted with personnel and also laid a wreath at the War Memorial to honour fallen arrival at Kawmzawl Helipad, the Governor was received by Addl. DC Pi Rochuangkimi Khenglawt and SP Pu J Lalmuankima. The 2nd Battalion of the Mizoram Armed Police accorded a Guard of Honour, while the Pipe Band from the 2nd Battalion MAP English Medium School welcomed him with a splendid musical a meeting with government department heads in the Lunglei DC's Conference Hall, Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh commended the effective implementation of welfare schemes through the Deputy Commissioner's office, describing them as exemplary. He urged officials to address the challenges faced by marginalised communities with viable solutions and sustained efforts. Highlighting the Central Government's significant investments in education, he noted the establishment of esteemed institutions such as Eklavya Model Residential Schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in Mizoram. He encouraged public participation to leverage these institutions for entry into Central Services and other top jobs in the Governor also emphasised the Central Government's commitment to welfare schemes for women, children, youth, farmers, and underprivileged communities, urging officials to ensure these initiatives deliver tangible benefits. He stressed the need for collaborative efforts across departments to achieve optimal outcomes. Advocating for stringent enforcement of law and order, as well as measures to combat substance abuse, he called upon Non-Governmental Organisations and Churches to work closely with the government. He underscored the importance of addressing issues concerning neighbouring countries and regional developments with vigilance, urging citizens to cooperate responsibly with authorities to uphold law and safeguard the Addl. DC Pi Rochuangkimi Khenglawt delivered a welcome address, providing an overview of Lunglei District's progress and ongoing initiatives under the Deputy Commissioner's office. She highlighted the Healthy Lunglei District Campaign, which has organised 39 camps to combat Non-Communicable Diseases. She also elaborated on Project LEAP for supporting individuals with disabilities, the Good Governance Campaign (Prashasan Gaon Ki Ore) implemented in six villages, Project BLOOM for maternal and child health in the Aspirational Rural Development Block of Lungsen, and the Elementary English Literacy SP Pu J. Lalmuankima apprised the Governor on law enforcement efforts in the district. He reported that, as of July this year, 89 cases were registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and 127 under local and special laws. Thirteen cases related to heroin trafficking were recorded, with 1,625.88 grams of heroin, valued at Rs 48,66,450, seized. Two arm-related cases were also interactive session concluded with a vote of thanks by Addl. DC Pi Zoramdini, formally closing the the meeting, the Governor visited the 20 Assam Rifles Headquarters at Lunglawn, where Commandant Colonel Jaswinder Singh, SM, briefed him on their operations. He also met with representatives of Non-Governmental Organisations, Church leaders, and Ex-Servicemen at the Lunglei Circuit House. His visit culminated with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Chanmari War Memorial to pay tribute to martyred soldiers. (ANI)
