SCC discusses new ideas to improve family welfare

The Family Affairs Committee of the Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) held a meeting in Sharjah on Tuesday to discuss new ideas and plans aimed at strengthening families in the community. This meeting was part of their ongoing efforts to support families and improve social welfare, in line with the goals set by His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah. The discussion included various members of the committee and was focused on important family-related topics. They expressed a strong commitment to visiting several organisations that work with women, children, and the elderly. These visits are meant to examine the services offered, recognise any challenges, and suggest solutions to enhance support for these groups. The committee also explored ideas to promote family unity and extend psychological and social support to different sections of society, including efforts to care for children, empower women, and assist senior citizens. Members noted that the meeting was part of their responsibility to address family issues and encourage community participation while reinforcing the values of solidarity and family strength. Saeed Matar Bin Hamed Al Tunaiji, Committee Chairman, highlighted the importance of collaborating with local government and community organisations in Sharjah, which play a key role in supporting families through various initiatives. He acknowledged the essential work done by institutions associated with the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, which contribute to creating a nurturing environment for families and help raise generations capable of aiding community growth. Attendees reaffirmed the committee's commitment to family-centred policies that prioritise people's well-being, in line with the caring and social approach that has become a hallmark of Sharjah's leadership. Separately, as part of its ongoing awareness tours to promote its endowment project 'Prophet's Neighbours,' the Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation (SSEF) visited the SCC to highlight the project's objectives and its role in supporting and empowering orphans through sustainable endowment resources. This meeting marks a key milestone in the Foundation's efforts to explain the project's details and mechanisms for participation through an interactive booth set up in public and private institutions across the UAE. The initiative aims to raise awareness of the project's value and areas of support, and to foster societal and institutional partnerships that ensure the charitable impact of the project remains sustainable. In this context, Mona Bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, Director General of the Foundation, praised the collaboration with the Consultative Council, stating, 'The endowment project carries a noble humanitarian message. Through it, we seek to revive the Prophetic tradition of charitable endowment (waqf) and to empower a cherished group in our society by ensuring the sustainability of their support. This is achieved through a series of endowments whose returns directly benefit the care and empowerment programmes provided by the Foundation.' She added, 'Our presence here is part of our efforts to promote 'Prophet's Neighbours' across the UAE, starting from Sharjah. We aim to establish an endowment as a sustainable development tool that guarantees continued support for beneficiaries. 'We extend our gratitude to the Consultative Council for its generous hosting and constructive engagement with our message. This reflects societal awareness of the importance of support and meaningful participation, reinforcing solidarity and cooperation within the community and enhancing its unity.' On his part, Ahmed Saeed Al Jarwan, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Consultative Council, emphasised the importance of hosting impactful community initiatives with lasting humanitarian value. WAM

Your contributions help build a secure future for those who have lost their providers and revive the practice of endowment advocated by our beloved Prophet. Every contribution brings you closer, God willing, to being neighbours of the Prophet in Paradise.' On his part, Ahmed Saeed Al Jarwan, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Consultative Council, emphasised the importance of hosting impactful community initiatives with lasting humanitarian value. He pointed out that the project, launched by the Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation, serves as a pioneering model of institutional charity work and reflects a civilised vision focused on empowering orphans and securing their future through sustainable endowment resources. Al Jarwan confirmed that the Consultative Council is committed to supporting initiatives that enhance social solidarity and promote collaboration between governmental and community institutions. He stated that this cooperation with the Foundation aligns with the Sharjah emirate's approach to nurturing and empowering individuals both materially and morally, in an environment that upholds their dignity and ensures their growth and integration. He added that the Council remains open to every developmental and humanitarian initiative that benefits society and aligns with the high directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, which call for strengthening responsible community action and promoting endowment as a developmental tool to secure sustainability and goodness for future generations. The Foundation is adopting a promotional strategy involving field visits to introduce the project at various government and private entities and across national events. The goal is to convey the project's message to the widest possible segment of society and enhance community involvement in supporting orphans who lack parental care. It is worth noting that Prophet's Neighbours is an endowment initiative launched by the Foundation to empower its beneficiaries and ensure the sustainability of their support through charitable endowments. All returns are fully allocated to programmes that empower orphans and meet their comprehensive needs, providing them with a stable environment and fair opportunities for growth and success.

Fasting health tip: Add bananas in your Iftar meals

Including bananas in your Iftar meals offers both spiritual and physical benefits during Ramadan. This potassium-rich fruit provides a quick energy boost after a day of fasting, helping to replenish electrolytes and prevent muscle cramps that can occur from dehydration. Bananas are also easy to digest, making them gentle on your empty stomach while providing sustained energy through natural sugars and fiber. Their versatility allows them to be incorporated into both sweet and savory dishes - from fruit salads and smoothies to more traditional dishes like banana fritters or even sliced alongside savory proteins. Following the Prophetic tradition of breaking fast with dates, adding bananas creates a nutritionally balanced start to your evening meal that helps stabilize blood sugar levels and provides the sustained energy needed for evening prayers and activities.

'Fatwas and Their Role in Achieving Islamic Unity'.. Seminar at CIBF

The stand of the Muslim Council of Elders at the Cairo International Book Fair hosted its fifth cultural seminar, titled 'Fatwas and Their Role in Achieving Islamic Unity,' with the participation of Prof. Dr. Nazir Ayyad, the Grand Mufti of Egypt, and Dr. Samir Boudinar, Director of Al-Hokama Center for Peace Research. The seminar was moderated by Dr. Mohamed Gamal, a researcher at the Office for the Revival of Islamic Heritage at Al-Azhar Headquarters. At the beginning of the seminar, His Eminence Prof. Dr. Nazir Ayyad emphasized that the principles of Islamic legislation—such as fraternity, mercy, and harmony—play a significant role in fostering human fraternity and advancing civilizational leadership in societies. He explained that the philosophy of Islamic legislation, similar to other divine religions, is built on creed, jurisprudence, and ethical behavior, aiming to unite the nation through shared worship, goals, and timeframes. He further highlighted that this unity is the ultimate salvation and the central objective of Islamic law, as emphasized in the Prophetic statement: 'A believer to another believer is like a building whose parts support one another.' The Grand Mufti added that sound fatwas serve as an effective remedy and a safe fortress for society, emphasizing that the sustainability of nations and the preservation of communities can only be achieved through well-founded fatwas that uphold the principles and fundamentals of religion while taking into account contemporary realities and societal needs. He noted that fatwas foster the principle of human fraternity—both among Muslims and between Muslims and non-Muslims. For his part, Dr. Samir Boudinar remarked that the Muslim world today suffers under the weight of divisions and conflicts that threaten the unity and social fabric of the Muslim nation. He underscored the pivotal role of sound fatwas in protecting the social fabric, promoting unity, and fostering cohesion within the Muslim nation. Throughout history, fatwas have addressed challenges and overcome obstacles facing the nation in every era, particularly those related to the unprecedented issues and needs of society. Dr. Boudinar also stressed the importance of religious institutions working in harmony with other societal institutions and interdisciplinary sciences to safeguard the intellectual security of individuals and communities and to unify the Muslim nation, which is constantly threatened by division and discord. He highlighted the role of research centers in supporting the issuance of fatwas by contributing to the training of muftis and providing them with necessary interdisciplinary knowledge. The Muslim Council of Elders is participating with a dedicated stand at the 56th Cairo International Book Fair, running from January 23 to February 5, 2025. The stand features a wide range of the Council's featured publications and hosts various seminars, activities, and events focused on promoting the values of goodness, love, peace, and coexistence among all humanity.
