The new Seiko Prospex Speedtimer ‘Compact Countdown' arrives with a super-slim case

Seiko has unveiled a sleek new addition to its Prospex family — the Speedtimer 6R 'Compact Countdown'. It's the first Speedtimer to house Seiko's in-house 6R automatic movement, and it wears that milestone proudly in the slimmest 6R case the brand has ever made. At just 11.95mm deep and 39.5mm across, the new watch model blends sporty function with a more wearable size – a welcome shift for anyone who loves the Speedtimer's motorsport legacy but prefers a watch that doesn't feel like wrist weights. I'm a big fan of the slimmer profile – it should hug the wrist perfectly and feel far more refined than some of the chunkier chronos out there. One of the standout features for me is the clean, time-only design. It's refreshingly simple and adds to the watch's old-school racing charm without overcomplicating the dial. It's functional, but it also just looks cool. The case design harks back to the iconic 1972 Seiko 'Panda' chronograph, with a familiar flowing shape and a scratch-resistant super-hard coating. There's also a car-themed collector's treat in the lineup: the Prospex Speedtimer Compact 6R x Datsun Fairlady Z Limited Edition. Limited to 2500 pieces worldwide, this model celebrates a double anniversary – the original Seiko Speedtimer and the launch of the Datsun 240Z rally car, both of which debuted in 1969. It features a rally-style dial font, vintage colour scheme, and the Datsun logo stamped on the caseback, dial and clasp. Powering both the standard and limited editions is the 6R automatic movement. It delivers a three-day power reserve and keeps time to within -15/+25 seconds per day. The case is also good for 200m of water resistance – handy if your adventures go beyond the track. Finally, the watch is finished on a retro-style bracelet, further emphasising the '70s vintage aesthetic. The Prospex Speedtimer 6R 'Compact Countdown' and the Datsun Fairlady Z Limited Edition go up for pre-order today on Seiko's website, with prices ranging from £850 (approx. US$1100) to £1100 (approx. US$1425). If you like your racing watches classic, compact, and just a little bit geeky, this one's hard to ignore. Liked this? Still Ticking, Still Diving: Seiko's Diver Hits The Big 6-0

Subscribe to our FREE You know, 60 years is a lifetime… and quite a milestone. Back in 1965, the world was changing fast. Malaysia was heading into a decade of independence. The first commercial satellite had just gone into orbit. The Beatles were rewriting the music scene, miniskirts were flipping fashion on its head. And in Japan, something quieter but just as revolutionary was rising to the surface. (Credit: tawatchai07/freepik) That year, Seiko introduced Japan's first professional diver's watch built for one purpose: survival . Because, when you're deep underwater, a watch isn't just for telling the time. It tells you when to surface. When to breathe. When to live. The original,1965 and 1968 diver's watches, the 62MAS. Complete with automatic mechanical movement and 150m water resistance. Fast-forward to 2025, and Seiko's Prospex line is marking its 60th anniversary not just by looking back at its deep-sea legacy, but by diving headfirst into the future. The Letter That Changed Everything Seiko's longstanding legacy in the seas, believe it or not, started with a simple letter. As the story goes, a diver from Hiroshima wrote to Seiko, saying that most watches just couldn't survive a saturation dive—a kind of deep-sea mission where divers live in pressurised environments for days or weeks. See, helium gas would slip past the seals, build up inside the watch case, and eventually blow the glass clean off. Which, you know, is not great when you're hundreds of metres underwater. (Credit: freepik) Now, Seiko didn't just ignore him. They did what few brands would: they listened and then they went to work. After years of research, they unveiled the world's first 600m professional diver's watch with a titanium case. It was lighter, stronger, smarter. A watch that didn't just handle the pressure, it mastered it. A Legacy Forged in the Deep Now, Seiko's dive watches didn't just tell the time, they defied it. They went places. Cold, high, and impossibly deep places. In 1966, their first diver's watch joined four Antarctic expeditions. By 1970, one was strapped to the wrist of the first Japanese climber to summit Everest. (Credit: In 1983, Seiko watches dove with Japan's Shinkai 2000 submersible to depths of 1,062 metres, far beyond their official 600m rating. Then in 2015, Seiko's 1,000m saturation divers were sent on a mission with Kaiko 7000 II, a remote submersible, where they hit over 3,000 metres deep, and the watches still kept ticking. (Credit: Seiko Prospex – Marinemaster 1000m Depth testing 2015/YouTube) Now Surfacing: The 2025 Marinemaster SLA081 To celebrate 60 years of conquering the deep, Seiko's diving back in… literally. Their Prospex line (short for Professional Specifications) is going back to its roots with the release of the Seiko Prospex Marinemaster Professional, SLA081. Now, this watch isn't meant to be just a tribute piece. It's a modern masterpiece made to be worn in style. Inside you'll find the Calibre 8L45, a premium mechanical movement with 72 hours of power reserve and elite-level accuracy. Its components are made from Spron—a proprietary Seiko alloy that resists breakage, corrosion, and wear. Outside, a one-piece titanium case rated to 600m, built tough without needing a helium escape valve, thanks to Seiko's unique L-shaped gasket. It's a quiet flex referencing their game-changing 1975 model, complete with the word 'PROFESSIONAL' inscribed on the dial. The dial itself is a rich, ocean-deep gradient of blue, inspired by shinkai , the Japanese word for 'deep sea.' And it's finished with glossy textures and raised, wavy markers, making it a dashing looker. And if you want one, you'll have to move fast. Only 600 pieces will be made, launching in July 2025. One of them is already headed to the Arctic on JAMSTEC's (Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology) latest research mission. Vintage Spirit, Modern Masterpieces Also joining the 60th anniversary lineup are two more limited editions, each drawing from different moments in Seiko's diving history. First up, the SPB511, Seiko Prospex 1965 Heritage Diver's Watch. A tribute to the 1965 original. It comes with a clean silver dial, modern Calibre 6R55 movement, and a 72-hour power reserve. Its 300m water resistance is a nod to how far we've come since the original's 150m rating. Then there's the Seiko Prospex 1968 Heritage Diver's GMT Watch, SPB509. Inspired by its bold predecessor. This one adds a GMT complication, powered by Calibre 6R54, with an independently adjustable 24-hour hand that's perfect for those tracking multiple time zones. The blue dial, with its wave motif, pays homage to the signature Prospex feel. Both models are limited to 6,000 pieces each and feature upgraded bracelets with adjustable clasps that can be tweaked on the go. 60 Years, Still Making Waves The world has changed a lot since 1965. But Seiko's core values of precision, resilience, and purpose have stayed remarkably consistent. Because some things don't get old. They just get better. Accessorize Right Pairing Seiko Watches with Seasonal Fashion Trends

A timeless watch is more than just a way to keep track of time—it's a statement, a conversation starter, and often the finishing touch that completes an outfit. Among the world's most respected watchmakers, Seiko has consistently delivered quality, precision, and style. From sleek dress watches to rugged dive pieces, Seiko offers versatility that allows wearers to seamlessly integrate their timepieces into seasonal fashion trends. Here's how you can accessorize right by pairing Seiko watches with the trends of each season. Spring is the season of renewal, with soft pastels, floral patterns, and lightweight fabrics dominating wardrobes. The mood is fresh, bright, and optimistic. To complement this vibe, opt for Seiko watches with minimalist dials and lighter materials. The Seiko Presage Cocktail Time 'Sky Diving' model with its cool blue dial and stainless steel bracelet captures the lightness of spring perfectly. Its subtle elegance pairs well with linen shirts, pastel blazers, and floral dresses. Alternatively, the Seiko 5 Sports collection offers canvas straps and bold dial colors that echo spring's playful energy. Style Tip: Match a light-toned leather or fabric strap with your spring wardrobe. A beige or pale blue watch band pairs beautifully with off-white trousers and chambray shirts. Summer fashion is often bold, colorful, and relaxed. Think short sleeves, breathable fabrics, and vibrant patterns. Accessories during this time should not only add flair but also withstand the elements. This makes summer the perfect season for Seiko's Prospex line, Seiko Coutura especially their dive watches. The Seiko Prospex 'Turtle' Diver's Watch, with its robust build and water resistance, is ideal for beach trips and poolside lounging. The bright dials—such as orange, blue, or green—add a splash of fun and pair effortlessly with swimwear, board shorts, and casual polos. Style Tip: Coordinate your watch strap with your swim trunks or beachwear for a cohesive and stylish look. Silicone or NATO straps are great for their durability and comfort in hot, humid conditions. As temperatures drop and layers re-emerge, fall fashion leans into earthy tones like browns, burgundies, and deep greens. This season calls for warm textures—wool, corduroy, and leather dominate. A watch that complements this color palette can elevate your look. The Seiko Presage 'Sharp Edged' Series with Seiko 5 Sports textured brown or green dials is an excellent choice. These watches often feature leather straps, which work harmoniously with fall staples like suede jackets, flannel shirts, and tweed blazers. Style Tip: Opt for a watch with a leather strap that matches or contrasts subtly with your boots or belt. A dark brown strap paired with a plaid shirt and camel coat creates a refined autumn ensemble. Winter fashion is defined by darker colors, structured layers, and sophisticated silhouettes. Fabrics like wool, cashmere, and velvet dominate, and accessories take on a more polished, refined feel. This is the season for classic Seiko dress watches. The Seiko Presage 'Zen Garden' or 'White Birch' models in stainless steel exude quiet luxury. Their intricate dials and refined details pair well with formalwear, such as tailored suits, overcoats, and leather gloves. If you're dressing up for holiday gatherings or formal dinners , a Seiko Premier Chronograph adds a subtle touch of glamour. Its gold-tone accents or Roman numeral markers enhance winter's opulent aesthetic. Style Tip: Choose metallic watch finishes to contrast the deep hues of winter clothing. A silver watch stands out against navy or black wool, while a gold-toned model adds warmth to a burgundy or emerald ensemble. While it's fun to match your Seiko watch to seasonal styles, investing in versatile pieces ensures year-round usability. Consider watches with interchangeable straps—leather, metal, and fabric—that can adapt to different outfits and occasions. Additionally, balance is key. If your outfit is loud, opt for a simpler watch. If your attire is neutral or minimalist, a bolder watch can act as a statement piece. Conclusion A Seiko watch is more than a timekeeping tool—it's a reflection of personal style and adaptability. With each season bringing its own fashion trends and colors, your Seiko can serve as the anchor that ties everything together. Whether you're strolling through cherry blossoms in spring or sipping hot cocoa in winter, there's a Seiko that can enhance your look while staying true to timeless craftsmanship. TIME BUSINESS NEWS

Seiko's New Anniversary Marinemaster Dive Watch Is a Exclusive Must-Have

It's been 60 years since Seiko introduced Japan's first dive watch. Over the six decades that followed the debut, the watchmaker has continued to push the boundaries of what could be expected from these dynamic timepieces. Increased concentration on safety and reliability helped the brand build an immense following of its underwater tickers that today is represented by its Prospex collection. Now, with its 60th anniversary finally here, Seiko is commemorating the milestone with the addition of three new watches into the series: the Marinemaster, as well as the silver-dialed homage to their 1965 diver's watch and a blue-dialed version made to reflect the design of their 1968 diver's watch. The Marinemaster SLA081 may be the most-impressive of the bunch, though, featuring everything from a new Caliber 8L45 mechanical watch movement, a one-piece titanium case that's water resistant up to 600 meters, and a stainless-steel bezel that's been treated with diamond-like carbon coating made to be scratch resistant. The Caliber 8L45 movement uses Seiko's proprietary titanium alloy, Spron, which was designed for durability against breakage, rust, and wear. It also provides 72 hours of power reserve and operates within a tolerance of +10 to -5 seconds per day. The case features the word "PROFESSIONAL" inscribed across the dial, while a specially developed L-shaped gasket prevents helium infiltration, eliminating the need for an escape valve. The Marinemaster uses classic Seiko dive watches to influence its design, including their 1975 release. A textured dial, meanwhile, reminds wearers of the deep sea, while a thick finish enhances the level of perceivable depth. The bracelet is made from titanium and features rounded links for added flexibility and comfort. With the Seiko Prospex collection, the brand actively supports the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) research team. The Marinemaster will become part of JAMSTEC's Arctic research program in 2025. Just 600 of these watches will be released in select Seiko Boutiques and retail stores worldwide come July, and are priced at $4,600. The silver SPB511 is priced at $1,400 and available in May while the blue SB509 costs $1,750 and drops in June with only 6,000 pieces.

Prospex Energy to acquire Warrego Energy's shares in Tarba Energía

Prospex Energy has signed a binding agreement to acquire 100% of Tarba Energía, enhancing its stake in European gas projects. The acquisition involves purchasing Warrego Energy's entire shareholding in Tarba, which holds investments in the El Romeral production concessions and associated gas-to-power plants in southern Spain. Under the terms of the shareholders agreement with Warrego, Prospex, through its subsidiary PXOG Muirhill, exercised its pre-emption right to purchase Warrego's shares. This right was triggered by a share sale and purchase agreement between Warrego and a third-party buyer. The acquisition price for Warrego's shares totals €652,725 ($709,205), with €100,000 payable upon approval of drilling permits for three of five wells under regulatory review. Prospex will fund the acquisition using existing cash resources and has until 19 April 2025 to complete the transaction. Prospex CEO Mark Routh said: "I am extremely pleased to announce the increased ownership in Tarba, the El Romeral concessions and the related gas-to-power plant in Carmona. Importantly the acquisition is being made using accumulated cash reserves from our investment portfolio and is expected to lead to significantly increased production revenue once the permits to drill the five new wells on the EL Romeral concessions are approved. "In terms of prospective gas resources acquired in the El Romeral asset alone, the equivalent price of $0.092/boe [barrel of oil equivalent] is an excellent price by almost any measure. Prospex sees further upside in the concessions with further mapped structures to evaluate and drill once the first five wells have been permitted and drilled." Additionally, the buyer must pay Warrego a 5% gross overriding royalty on future Tesorillo Project revenues. The purchase price, matched to the third-party offer, reflects an independently derived value for the assets. Currently, the El Romeral asset accounts for 10% of Prospex's net production. Post-acquisition, it will represent approximately 20% of the company's enlarged net production. Prospex's other assets include the Viura field in northern Spain and the Selva Malvezzi asset in Italy. Drilling operations at the Viura gas field, operated by HEYCO Energy, are delayed by six to eight weeks. The operations are now expected to commence in May 2025 due to operational reasons. "Prospex Energy to acquire Warrego Energy's shares in Tarba Energía" was originally created and published by Offshore Technology, a GlobalData owned brand.
