The State Department issued an information guide for American citizens who want to leave Israel and Iran amid the conflict.
For Israel and the West Bank, the advice is to depart as soon as possible.
"Do not wait for U.S. government assistance to depart. U.S. citizens who are able to depart on their own should do so," the advisory says. "We will alert U.S. citizens if there is additional information to share regarding departure options."
Those who need government help to leave Israel or the West Bank, and are U.S. citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents, are directed to fill out a crisis intake form.
For Iran, U.S. citizens are urged not to travel there for any reason and "should depart Iran immediately if they are there".
"U.S. citizens who are unable to depart Iran should be prepared to shelter in place for extended periods," the State Department said.
"The U.S. government does not have diplomatic or consular relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Swiss Protecting Power office in Tehran is closed until further notice and is limited in its ability to assist U.S. citizens in Iran at this time."
It said information on departing Iran via the land border with Armenia, Türkiye, Azerbaijan, or Turkmenistan is available in recent alerts.
