Period costume exhibit at P.E.I.'s Government House showcases styles that were all the rage in 1864

Government House in Charlottetown, P.E.I., is once again opening its doors for tours this summer. This year, the program will include a revived tradition of hosting exhibitions, starting with an array of period costumes styled after fashions from 1864, when representatives from the Province of Canada (present-day Ontario and Quebec), Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island met in Charlottetown to discuss a political union.

American Tariffs Are Hitting Canada *Hard* — So Here Are 33 More Canadian Products That Beat Their American Equivalents By A Landslide

The tariff beef (or I guess you could call it a trade war) between Canada and the US is still an ongoing source of tension. Because of this, tons of us Canadians are committed to boycotting American goods. A few days ago, I shared a list of Canadian brands that people swear are better than American ones. And TONS of Canadians left more wonderful suggestions in the comments! So without further ado, here are even more Canadian brands that put American ones to shame: 1. " Province of Canada is an apparel company owned and operated in Toronto. 100% of their products are manufactured within Canada. The brand emphasizes the importance of local manufacturing, pride in supporting Canadian and a sustainable mission to use as much natural materials in the slow fashion process." "They also have a one-for-one sock program, where they donate a pair of socks to shelters for every pair sold." — minimagazine40 3. "American here who loves Canada. Adding Kozlik's Canadian Mustard! Lots of variety, and Canada is one of, if not the, largest mustard seed producers in the world." "Their old smoky mustard is a game-changer!" — sharpglue71 4. " Caprina soaps. The best goat milk soaps around!" — maskedarcher406 5. "I've been drinking Canadian wines for years. My favourite is Pelee Island Semi Sweet; it's a merlot." "There are others, too. Good wines." — peacefulpony703 6. " Peace by Chocolate in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia!" — quirkybee56 "Syrian refugees started it after coming here!" — leahm491b1c910 7. " St. Albert Cheese! It's the only cheese I'll use for mac 'n cheese, and if your poutine doesn't have St. Albert curds, I don't want it." — bethicap 9. " La Cocina tortilla chips are made in Manitoba and are superior." "Like, by far. Truly." — analeehope "I made the switch recently, and the quality is unreal. They are vastly superior. Recommended them to a co-worker and she loved them too. Plus, same price point as American brands (at least where I get them)." — shaeshae87 10. " Co-op gas (officially called Federated Co-operatives Limited)! The lesser of evils by a long shot!" "Make the switch for the easiest way to keep a lot of extra money in Canada. Plus, you get dividends." — darcyreimer 11. " Second Cup coffee!" — homeywizard65 13. "My fav is Island Farms dairy products. Sooooo creamy and tasty." — meglynnmargaretcoyle 14. " Balzac's coffee. Oh, so good." — homeywizard65 17. " Summer Fresh dips and salads are 100% Canadian-owned and produced in Woodbridge, Ontario ❤️." — luckycan176 Roberto Machado Noa / LightRocket / Getty Images 18. " Manmade is a superior Montreal-based startup that makes men's undergarments. The best quality, bar none." — quizzyhero292 Note: This company is Canadian-owned, but they're manufactured in China. 19. " Toy Maker of Lunenburg, a fully Canadian company in Nova Scotia. Amazing products, made with love." — goldentiger18 20. " Air North, Yukon's Airline, is half owned by Vuntut Gwichin First Nation and the rest by other Yukon citizens. They don't charge for up to two suitcases, serve free meals, and warm chocolate chip cookies as they approach Whitehorse." — maskedelephant271 22. " PSB Speakers, the pride of Pickering!" "Canada's been a source of excellent and accessible speakers for generations." — nrm75chau Note: These are also manufactured in China. Richard Lautens / Toronto Star via Getty Images 26. " ANIÁN clothing. A company on Vancouver Island that creates wool jackets and clothing from recycled wool. Impeccable quality and fit. Commitment to excellent standards and earth-friendly." "A testament to the 'circular' argument." — npsych90 27. " Anne Mulaire! They make the best, super-soft clothing for feminine bodies. It's all sewn right in Winnipeg by people who are treated and paid well. It's expensive, but high quality, and she's very committed to pockets. I rarely wear any other pants these days." "It's also work-appropriate, which can be hard to find in slow fashion! Oh, and despite being bamboo, the fabric is all manufactured in a closed-loop system. They'll also customize items to your specifications (and they do repairs very affordably!)"
