Ohio man charged after police find over two pounds of marijuana, paraphernalia hidden in spare tire compartment
PRICEVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — An Ohio man was arrested after police found multiple drugs during a traffic stop, including drug paraphernalia hidden in his spare tire compartment. Priceville Police said that officers pulled a vehicle over along I-65 on Memorial Day around 1:47 a.m. Police identified the driver of the vehicle as D'Angelo Antonio Bates, 29, of Toledo, Ohio. During the investigation, officers found a firearm, over two pounds of marijuana, over 2 ounces of Fentanyl laced Psilocybin/Psilocyn mushrooms, and various drug paraphernalia hidden within the vehicle's spare tire compartment. Priceville Police told News 19 that Bates was arrested and charged with the following: Trafficking in Cannabis Trafficking Dangerous Drugs Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia He was transported to the Morgan County Jail where he is being held on a $$515,000 bond. Ohio sees surge in psychedelic mushroom products marketed as candy
More psychedelic mushrooms are appearing on store shelves, tripling in one year. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] 'They look like candy you would get at a candy store,' Attorney General Dave Yost said. Some of the candy bars confiscated by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations are labeled 'Mocha Frappuccino' and 'Fruity Pebbles,' CBS-affiliate WBNS reported. 'It's not just magic mushrooms anymore. We are seeing the active ingredients Psilocyn incorporated into other things to appeal to kids, chocolate bars, candies,' Yost said. In 2023, BCI reported finding 21 pounds of magic mushrooms. In 2024, there were 65 pounds reported. 'I'm especially concerned because we are seeing more and more marketing, not just with Psilocyn, but also with the Cannabinoid 8 and the various derived hemp products that we are seeing marketed in candy form, unregulated,' Yost said. Yost says the illegal candy bars are on store shelves in gas stations and vape shops— all places where your child can get them. BCI has collected 150 items containing mushrooms already this year. Lima man pleads not guilty to extensive drug charges
Apr. 14—LIMA — A Lima man was indicted last month on a variety of drug charges that would include, upon his conviction, the forfeiture of 27 weapons confiscated by law enforcement. Brandon Maitlen, 35, is charged with two counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs (Adderall and amphetamine), trafficking in drugs (Xanex), three counts of trafficking in cocaine, two counts of aggravated possession of drugs (Oxycodone and Psilocyn) and possession of cocaine. The cocaine possession charge alleges Maitlen had in his possession coke in excess of 27 grams but less than 100 grams. The first-degree felony count also calls for the forfeiture of multiple firearms, including two AR-15 rifles, a .357 magnum pistol, a Bear Creek Arsenal AR, a .22-caliber rifle, a Smith & Wesson .22 pistol, a Beretta APX, several Glock handguns, 12-gauge shotguns and a Springfield Armory Hellcat. Maitlen also faces a first-degree felony count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, which alleges that between April of 2023 and July of 2024 he was employed by or associated with "an enterprise that did conduct or participate in ... a pattern of corrupt activity of the collection of an unlawful debt." Maitlen on Monday entered pleas of not guilty to all charges against him. A pre-trial hearing was scheduled for April 28. Featured Local Savings
