3 great Max crime dramas you should watch in June 2025

Max, HBO Max, whatever it's called. Warner Bros. Discovery's streaming service remains one of the best places to go if you're looking for a movie. The streaming service has never fully figured out how to make sure that its subscribers can actually see everything available there, though, which is why we've pulled together a list of three great crime movies that you can watch now. Whatever flavor of crime movie you're looking for, you should be able to find it on this list. Check them out below: Recommended Videos Need more recommendations? Then check out the best new movies to stream this week, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+. Public Enemies (2009) Michael Mann has made a number of great crime films over the course of his career, but Public Enemies is perhaps his most underrated. The film, which tells the story of John Dillinger and the FBI's quest to bring him down, is equal parts stylish and gritty and a throwback to an era when the most famous men in America were criminals. Featuring a relatively grounded performance from Johnny Depp and Christian Bale as his capable foil, Public Enemies is a riveting examination of an era in American life when it felt like a particularly talented bank robber could get away with it forever. You can watch Public Enemies on Max. Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999) One of the most unusual movies from a great year for movies, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai follows a contract killer who operates under an ancient samurai code. His loyalty is to a low-level mobster who saved his life years before, and he tries to do his job with the kind of honor that is absent from modern crime. In addition to being a brilliant crime thriller anchored by Forest Whitaker in one of his best performances, Ghost Dog is the kind of movie that feels completely impossible to replicate. It's the only movie like it out there. You can watch Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai on Max. Casino (1995) In the wake of Goodfellas, Casino reteamed Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Martin Scorsese for what was seen as an underwhelming follow-up. Now, Casino is differentiated enough from its predecessor to stand on its own merits, which are considerable. The film follows a low-level gangster who finds himself assigned to Las Vegas as the city is erupting with activity. After finding early success in the job, he begins to struggle with his ex-wife, his enforcer, and the corrupt politicians that have come to define the city. A harder, edgier, and less funny movie than Goodfellas, Casino is nonetheless a worthy gangster epic. You can watch Casino on Max.

How world's highest-paid actor lost $650 million, spent $30K a month on wine, bought islands, faced $100 million debt

There was a time in the late 2000s and early 2010s when Johnny Depp could do no wrong. The actor was riding on the success of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and has also been cast as Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts series. As a star of two billion-dollar franchise, his star was shining bright. He was the highest-paid actor in the world and one of the richest as well. But then it all went downhill, spiralling out in a way that left the Hollywood superstar on the verge of bankruptcy. Making his debut as a teen heartthrob in the 80s, Johnny Depp worked his way up in Hollywood with critically acclaimed performances in the 90s in films like Edward Scissorhands, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Ed Wood and Donnie Brasco. But it was the Pirates of the Caribbean series (starting in 2003) that made him a global superstar. He added Public Enemies and Finding Neverland to his repertoire. In 2012, the Guinness Book of World Records recognised him as the highest-paid actor in the world, with earnings of $75 million. After he was cast in the Fantastic Beasts series, it was expected to go even higher. Around 2014, Forbes estimated Johnny Depp's net worth at $900 million, making him one of the richest actors in the world. TMG responded with a cross-complaint that called the actor 'spendthrift of epic proportions' and said he refused to control his 'selfish, reckless, and irresponsible lifestyle' despite warnings from his manager. The expenses were over $2 million a month, TMG claimed, including $30,000 a month on wine 'flown to him around the world'. Other big purchases included private islands and jewellery worth millions. TMG claimed that his exorbitant spending cost the actor more money than he was earning. In his legal battle against ex-wife Amber Heard, Johnny Depp admitted that he lost over $650 million in net worth over time. At one point, the actor had even incurred debts of over $100 million. Johnny Depp is attempting a comeback today after his financial troubles and long legal battle with Amber Heard. As per Variety, his net worth is now a relatively modest $150 million. The 61-year-old is currently filming Marc Webb's Day Drinker, which will be releasing in 2026. The film also stars Penélope Cruz and Madelyn Cline.

Push for movies filmed in Wisconsin, tax incentives proposed

The Brief Several notable films, including "Public Enemies," "Major League" and "Bridesmaids" have been partially filmed in Wisconsin. Action! Wisconsin is advocating for tax incentives and the establishment of a state film office to attract more film and television productions to the state. A legislative proposal for $10 million in annual tax credits and a film office has bipartisan support and is moving forward. MILWAUKEE, Wis. - "Public Enemies," "Major League" and "Bridesmaids" are just a few big films that were at least partially shot in Wisconsin. Now, there's a renewed push to have more movies made in the Badger State, and it could come through tax incentives. What they're saying Suzanne Jurva has worked on major films, from the epic "Gladiator" to the Oscar-nominated "Amistad." She's a trailblazer, too. FREE DOWNLOAD: Get breaking news alerts in the FOX LOCAL Mobile app for iOS or Android "I always wanted to be in film and television," she said. "I set up the research department at DreamWorks, the first person to do so at any type of studio situation. My role was any question any director, art director or actor needed an answer to, we had to find." The backstory Now, Jurva is finding more purpose working with Action! Wisconsin. It's a statewide coalition of filmmakers, producers, businesses and advocates collaborating with lawmakers to establish a state film office and production incentives aimed at bringing film projects to Wisconsin. "The film office has everything in one-stop shopping, so it makes it easy for a production to come here," said Jurva. Local perspective A legislative proposal has received support from both sides of the aisle. Action! Wisconsin said the proposal would provide $10 million per year for tax credit film production incentives and establish a Wisconsin State Film Office. "We're losing out not only in the whole country, but we're falling behind just in the Midwest," said Jurva. SIGN UP TODAY: Get daily headlines, breaking news emails from FOX6 News Wisconsin filmmaker JoAnn Jardine said: "Film and television productions book lodging, cater shoots, dine out, and use local transportation. They also shop and hire locally and statewide in the trades and crafts." Bravo's "Top Chef" spent millions to film in Wisconsin. The city of Milwaukee saw a spike in hotel room bookings six months after the season premiere. Big picture view Georgia's use of tax incentives to entice high-profile productions has paid off in recent years. "They have so many new studios. Tyler Perry is epic," said Jurva. But she wants something epic in the Badger State. "We have hurdles, it still has to be passed, but we're in super good shape. I'm an optimist," she added. "We don't have time to be negative." What's next Jurva and other film leaders are asking supporters to write to their local state legislators. The proposal will be introduced, assigned a bill number and referred to a committee after April 22. The Source This story was produced by FOX6, with information provided by Action! Wisconsin.
