Last Updated: Puja Banerjee, known for playing 'Goddess Parvati' in Devon Ke Dev… Mahadev, is a versatile actor who has been married twice and is a proud mother to a young son In the world of entertainment, love and marriage often make as many headlines as stardom. From glamorous weddings to unexpected separations, many actors and actresses have walked down the aisle more than once – some parting ways amicably, others due to painful circumstances like domestic abuse. Among these stories is that of a popular actress who got married for the first time as a teenager and, over the years, has emerged as one of television's most recognised faces. Puja Banerjee, a 38-year-old versatile actor, has made her mark across Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, and Telugu films, television serials, and web series. She has been married twice and is also a proud mother to a young son. Her second marriage is with TV actor Kunal Verma, whom she dated for nearly three years before tying the knot. During this time, she also embraced motherhood. Puja rose to prominence with her portrayal of 'Goddess Parvati' in the mythological series Devon Ke Dev… Mahadev and later played 'Mata Vaishno Devi' in Jag Janani Maa Vaishno Devi. These roles not only brought her immense fame but also cemented her place in the hearts of Indian television audiences. Apart from serials, Puja has shown her versatility in reality shows like MTV Roadies, Comedy Circus, and Bigg Boss, while also appearing in regional cinema. Despite her widespread fame, she has remained fairly private about her personal life — until she chose to share some important milestones with her fans on social media. In April 2020, during the Durga Puja festivities, Puja revealed via an Instagram post that she and Kunal had already registered their marriage about six weeks earlier. The couple had initially planned a lavish wedding, but it had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 lockdown. Puja and Kunal had been engaged since 2017. Later that same year, the couple welcomed their son. Puja, who was pregnant before marriage, openly embraced her journey into motherhood. Today, she often shares heartwarming glimpses of her family life with her husband and son through photos and videos, showing a beautiful balance between career and home. What many may not know is that Puja's journey began at the young age of 15, when she eloped and married her then-boyfriend Arunoy Chakraborty in 2004. The marriage lasted nine years, and the couple eventually parted ways amicably in 2013. Following her divorce, Puja shifted her focus entirely to her acting career. It was during this phase that she landed the iconic role of 'Goddess Parvati' – a defining moment that changed her life forever. Since then, Puja hasn't looked back, consistently proving her talent and resilience. Today, Puja Banerjee stands as one of television's most successful and admired actresses, known not just for her performances but also for her strength, grace, and the ability to shape her own destiny. Puja Banerjee breaks silence on kidnapping and extortion allegations: ‘God is watching'

Days after an FIR was filed against her and husband Kunal Verma, actress Puja Banerjee has broken her silence for the first time. Taking to social media, she expressed heartbreak over the allegations, calling them baseless and false. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Puja wrote, 'Going through the toughest time of our lives. To those who are standing by us — we will be forever grateful. And to those who believe in the lies being spread against us, God bless them too. I believe in God, and you know — GOD IS WATCHING.' Earlier this month, Bengali film producer Shyam Sunder Dey accused Puja Banerjee and Kunal Verma of kidnapping him in Goa and extorting Rs 23 lakh. According to Dey, Puja was like a sister to him, which made the alleged threats for money even more shocking. He further claimed that Kunal, along with a group of men, physically assaulted him in Puja's presence and confiscated his phone. A separate phone was allegedly kept with him solely for the purpose of transferring the extorted amount. Dey said he was rescued on June 4, after his wife Malabika Dey alerted the police. He had managed to use the spare phone to send his live location and a video he secretly recorded in a bathroom to help authorities trace him. Following the complaint, an FIR was filed against Puja Banerjee and Kunal Verma under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) — the new criminal code replacing the IPC. The couple has been charged under provisions related to abduction, extortion, criminal intimidation, and wrongful confinement. While the couple did not name anyone at the time, speculation around the connection between the two events quickly grew. Soon after, Shyam Sunder Dey's wife Malabika Dey took to Facebook, publicly sharing disturbing details of what she described as a 'betrayal and a breach of trust' by close friends. Her post read: 'This incident is not just a serious crime; it is a betrayal and a breach of trust toward a friend. In addition to the physical and mental abuse on Shyam, our entire family is suffering immense emotional trauma. We are following legal recourse and have complete faith in the judicial system. I urge all members of the creative community to remain vigilant.' She further alleged that Shyam was threatened with being falsely implicated in a drug case if he failed to pay an additional Rs 64 lakh.
