Wrexham: Jake Paul tipped to lose to James McClean
Pulis - who was McClean's boss when the duo were together at West Brom - knows the player has a tough reputation in football. According to Pulis, the 36-year-old former Republic of Ireland international is the most feared player he has worked with. He told OLBG: "Nobody would want to fight James McClean in the boxing ring. "I've seen him at West Brom. He has got the fastest hands of any professional footballer I've seen. He was on the bag and on the gloves. James, without question. "Like I say, I've got a lot of time for James. He mishandles himself at times in respect of what he says and what he does. But he's a great, great, great kid. I've got a lot of time for him. "I've seen him with the gloves on. You wouldn't want to go in a ring against him. Against Jake Paul? McClean all day long." McClean and his team-mates led Wrexham to runners-up spot in League One this season, securing an historic third successive promotion under Phil Parkinson. The Reds, backed by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, will be back in the Championship next season following a 43 year absence and Pulis says Parkinson has done a fantastic job at The Racecourse amid all the "nonsense". "Wrexham have done fantastic. Irrespective of all the nonsense that's going on around the place with the film stars and all that stuff, Phil Parkinson has done a fantastic job as manager," said Pulis, who counts Stoke City and Middlesbrough among the many clubs he has managed. "Three promotions on the bounce, it's an amazing achievement. Graham Taylor took Watford from the fourth Division to the First Division. John Toshack took Swansea from the Fourth Division to the First, but to get three consecutive promotions is absolutely fantastic. "Being a Welsh club, I know it's North Wales, but I still hope to see them succeed."

Tony Pulis makes feelings clear on Cardiff City manager situation and what must happen next
Tony Pulis hopes Cardiff City can bounce straight back to the Championship, but believes the new manager must nail down an identity for the club in order to do that. Cardiff suffered a drop to League One following a disastrous season, one which saw them endure their worst start in the club's 125-year history and end with a whimper. There have been too many mistakes, too many managers and not enough wins over the last few years and for Pulis, who used to watch the Bluebirds regularly at Ninian Park as a child, it's sad to see. "I hope Cardiff can bounce back, there's been a real downturn on things there," he told OLBG. "The owner has spent a hell of a lot of money but because you lose and because things don't go well and because of the appointment of maybe one or two people, it drifts away and everything gets thrown at the owner and Mehmet Dalman. "I've met Mehmet. Mehmet is a really, really lovely person and another person you would hope would be successful. But they have to find a way, they have to find an identity. "I don't think they've had an identity for a couple of years. I don't think, from the outside, that the club has had the direction that it's needed. "Vincent Tan has put a lot of money into that football club so everything will be pointing at him at the moment and he'll definitely feel the pressure – the appointment of the next manager is going to be massive for them." In the last few days, Pulis has been linked with a new role in Egypt. Reports have claimed that Egyptian side Zamalek have approached the Newport-born manager to become their director of football. The 67-year-old has regularly been linked with managerial vacancies at Cardiff but it is understood he will not be considered as Omer Riza's permanent replacement. Speaking previously about his soft spot for Cardiff a decade ago, Pulis said: 'I watched Cardiff when I was a young boy and that was when John Toshack was playing with Ian Gibson in midfield. 'My dad once took me to Cardiff on a Tuesday evening to watch Real Madrid with 50-odd thousand people in the stadium."

Ex-Premier League boss says Holloway can 'inspire anyone' after Town turnaround
Former Stoke City manager Tony Pulis praised the motivational skills of Ian Holloway after he turned Swindon Town around this season. Having arrived in late October with Swindon mired in a relegation battle, Holloway managed to turn the campaign around and move Town closer to the playoffs than the bottom two by the end of the year with a top-half finish. Pulis and Holloway have known each other since they came through at Bristol Rovers together and have been close friends ever since. READ MORE: Nationwide end long-standing sponsorship of Swindon Town Football Club Smith details meetings which helped turn Swindon's season around 'This is who I am' - Holloway's new book gives window into his mind The 67-year-old has not been in management since a stint at Sheffield Wednesday in 2020, but had very accomplished spells in the Premier League with Stoke City, Crystal Palace, and West Bromwich Albion in the 2010s. During a recent interview on many topics across English football, Pulis was asked about his assessment of the work Holloway has done since returning from a four-year hiatus. Speaking to OLBG, he said: 'Ollie will inspire anyone. He's that type of person, he's that type of fellow. He's infectious. He just gets things done, and he gets things going, and he's done fantastically. 'It's lovely to see an old-fashioned manager go in and be successful. Ollie, he's a lot younger than me. But yeah, it's really pleasing [to see what he has done]. 'It's close to his home, he's close to his family, which is important to Ian. Now I am really, really pleased for him and pleased for the football club. 'I first met Ian when, I think, he was 14 years of age, he was carrying sticks across the park at Eastfield as a schoolboy. He was so bubbly and so enthusiastic, and his attitude to life, his parents, his dad and his mum were lovely, lovely people. 'He's godfather to Anthony, my son. Yeah, he gets a tick from me.' This has been a sentiment shared by much of the Swindon squad on how Holloway has been able to improve them since his arrival. Ollie Clarke said: 'All the way back to the start of the year, when we were still new as a group, we still had the belief that we could do something. 'Then the manager has improved us tenfold in terms of our mentality, our organisation, and [knowledge of] how to win games of football. 'It is just a shame that it took us a while to get our feet under the table and get the wins that we needed to get ourselves away from danger.'
